Captive Mate BL-Chapter 529: + - +
Chapter 529: +Chapter 529+
"Have any idea what’s going on?" Rosie finally couldn’t keep down her curiosity.
Jael shrugged, he had gotten nothing but bad vibes from Asher but he didn’t know and he didn’t want to unsettle Rosie. "We’ll find out in a bit."
Patty wasted no time in joining them, a worried look in her dark eyes. "Let’s go."
By the time they got to the parking lot, Asher had already left with Caspian, none of them were too surprised about this outcome.
"So what’s going on?" Patty finally reached her limit half-way back to the mansion. There was next to no conversation happening in the car, the air somber and serious.
She got the same response that Rosie had gotten and she had no choice but to wait, her gaze constantly drifting to her phone.
The trip was quick, and as soon as they got back to the mansion, Jael immediately headed for Asher’s study.
Sure that wherever Jael was going was where the answers to their questions would be, the two ladies followed closely behind him.
Asher was already seated imposingly behind his desk, a worried looking Caspian perched in his arms.
Such a look on his beautiful face wrenched at the heart of anyone seeing it. Especially the newcomers who were used to seeing him wearing a sweet smile.
Asher didn’t hesitate to start speaking as soon as they arrived. Immediately Patty shut the door behind her, he dropped the bomb.
"The High Council is making a move." He said bluntly, having no qualms about sharing this information with Rosie and Patty.
After all, he already told Rosie’s Mafia King, and Patty was already an integral part of the family.
The only person who completely understand the severity of his words was Jael, things were so much worse than he had been speculating.
"Luis Caddel?" He asked instinctively.
Asher nodded, "He’s the one wrecking shit on Nikolai’s turf. But he’s a little too effective, there’s no doubt the High Council is planning to use him to take Nikolai out."
Jael understood immediately, while Rosie and Patty were more than a little lost.
Rosie especially, because it was only recently that her Mafia King became on good terms with Mafia King Asher, and with how fickle Mafia Kings could be, that could change at any time.
So she didn’t understand why Asher would be so bothered about this. Wouldn’t it be to their benefit if the High Council got rid of Nikolai?
"I already informed Davian." Asher went on, his piercing gaze settling on Rosie like he could tell what she was thinking. "He’s returning early so you might want to give him a call."
Rosie’s eyes went wide in shock, hastily stepping out without waiting for Asher to say another word.
There was only one week left for their vacation, she really didn’t want anything to ruin it. Did they really have to return to Haines for this?
Rosie beelined straight to the room she had been staying in, so she could settle down to make a call to her Mafia King.
Back in the study room, Patty had left, leaving only Jael behind. Although, her Mafia King had said nothing about her presence, Patty really had no reason to remain there.
Her only job involved running the mansion, if they were attacked, she wouldn’t hesitate to pick up a gun to defend her Mafia House but it wasn’t like Mafia King Asher would send her on a mission.
Jael took his seat after Patty left, his expression grave. "Nikolai isn’t going to be happy about our meddling." He pointed out.
Asher knew that, he had a feeling that the High Council was counting on the other’s pride. "Well, he has no fucking choice." He bit out. Well acquainted with how difficult Nikolai was on a regular day.
"It takes three to run Haines, if the High Council defeats one, we’ll all suffer it." He said seriously, a warm, soothing hand on his mate’s bare waist. "As soon as Davian returns, we’ll be holding an impromptu meeting."
Jael leaned back in his chair, deep in thought. Luis Caddel alone was enough trouble, if the High Council had decided to use him as their pawn, that would make things even more difficult than it already was.

Rosie was always mindful of the time before calling either Lake or Davian but right then, her impatience got the better of her, and even though she knew it was barely dawn, she called anyway.
Davian picked immediately, "Did Asher tell you what’s going on?" He asked bluntly, concern etched in his tone.
Rosie’s frown was audible in her voice. "Do you really have to cut your vacation short? There’s just a week left..."
Davian smiled despite the situation they were in. "What did Asher tell you?"
Rosie was still petulant, "He said the High Council is making a move but it’s only towards Mafia King Nikolai." She grumbled, as much as she missed them, she also wanted them to enjoy their private time together. "It’s not like we’re allies."
"Right, we’re not." Davian agreed, "But we have to be against the High Council," He explained patiently, "If they manage to take down Nikolai, they’ll take over his turf, and it’s only a matter of time before they completely take over Haines. Which is their end goal."
Davian was calm now, he had taken a while to come to terms with things. Speaking to Rosie also helped with that, often, he tended to have tunnel vision towards his mate, seeing no one else.
He had been really displeased about them having to cut their vacation short but speaking with Rosie reminded him that he had left their home behind.
He might have wanted to leave it all behind once but Lake had taken it upon himself to make it their home. He had to fight for it.
Rosie went quiet, genuinely troubled for the first time since she heard about what was going on.
Even though there was a lot of disapproval about how Haines was run, the three Mafia Kings running it were influential enough that other than personal opinions, no one dared to make a move, not even the High Council.
"When will you return?" Rosie finally asked, a bit of hope in her voice despite wanting them to stay till the end of their vacation.
"Late tonight," Davian made rough calculations.
"I’ll move into the mansion," Rosie decided. Her apartment wasn’t safe anymore and her Mafia King was returning, it was only right. "Have you told Lake yet?" She softened her voice to ask.
Davian looked past the billowing curtains at his still peacefully sleeping mate. "Not yet, he’s asleep." He also unconsciously lowered his voice.
He didn’t doubt that Lake would have no arguments with leaving right away. If his mate was already awake, he would even insist they start packing.
