Chapter 62: Reason behind her smile

Chapter Sixty Two

Asli drummed her fingers against the steering wheel, sighing as the traffic inched forward at a frustratingly slow pace. The city was as loud as every early morning; horns blaring, pedestrians weaving through cars, and the engines of impatient motorcyclists making noise.

She glanced out the window, letting her eyes wander, when suddenly, they landed on something familiar. A massive billboard loomed above the intersection, its bright lights cutting through the weather’s haze.

And there she was... there was Lisa.

She was smiling in the photo, a radiant, effortless kind of happiness that Asli had never imagined herself wearing. Her makeup was perfect, and her hair tied in a simple ponytail swung to the other side like a soft breeze had just touched it.

She looked... beautiful. Confident. She would dare say free; she looked carefree.

Asli exhaled slowly, a small, almost amused smile tugging at her lips. She had never thought she would feel this way... happy. Had she ever thought she was capable of being happy?

Not just content, not just surviving, but she was happy. It was a strange, and unfamiliar feeling, yet undeniably real.

And she knew exactly who to blame for it. Or probably thank him for that.

Ahmet. The most insatiable man she had ever met though he was the only one she knew in that manner.

Her grip on the wheel tightened slightly at the thought of him. She could hear his teasing voice in her head, the way he always seemed to know exactly how to get under her skin.

He had this annoying habit of making her want to laugh when she did not want to, of making her feel safe when she swore she did not need anyone. Of making her feel wanted.

But she was not going to admit that to anyone.

Especially not to him. She would never let her hear the end of it if he ever were to find out.

The traffic light ahead turned green, and the cars around her began to move. With one last glance at the billboard, Asli shook her head, pressing her foot to the gas.

She was never saying a damn thing to him. She would never admit that to him.

Asli was back home and had been sleeping through the whole day.

Ahmet had not given her an inch of sleep last night. He kept her awake the whole night. He was gentle and she wondered how he could be that in bed. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

Were Mafias ever that gentle? Could they ever be this passionate? Or was it only in bed they could be gentle?

She paused when the word bed crossed her mind again. Did Ahmet lay with her in the bed he had slept with everyone in? The imbecile!

’Oh he will hear it from me!’ she thought.

Was that not weird?

She was tired and for the first time, it was not even because of training or fights or missions. And she loved how she felt last night... so much that it scared her. Why couldn’t she forget that she loved it?

She was brought back to reality by the gentle knock on her door. She did not want to get up. She heard the knob turning and in a few seconds, she heard footsteps. She could tell whoever it was by the footsteps.

Matilda. Her Nanny’s niece. She was probably the only person she cared about. Her nanny was not there yet. Asli rolled her eyes at that thought.

The girl threw herself in the bed when she noticed Asli was still not acknowledging her presence.

"I know you are awake. Dinner is ready. Aunt Ruth asked me to call you." She whispered while she adjusted herself in the bed.

"Go away." Asli groaned, wanting to sleep more. She had already spent half of the sleep thinking about the one man she was supposed to hate and avoid.

"Let’s go and eat." She whined and Asli opened her eyes instantly before shutting them again.

Only Matilda could bother her without getting killed. She watched her grow. She was like a sister to her. Matilda was her baby sister.

"You look... not hungry," Asli whispered through her sleep.

"It will shock you I haven’t eaten since my last meal and it’s already 7 in the evening," Matilda informed and Asli quickly jumped out of bed. She whimpered as the sensation between her thighs still lingered.

"Why didn’t anyone wake me up?" she tried to sit on the bed and realized it was a bad idea.

"You haven’t slept in a long time so we figured you needed the rest. Also, I am here to wake you up. Now tell me, who is your favorite human? Am I not your favorite human?" Matilda also jumped out of the bed.

"Where is my dad? Had he not sent for me to see him?" She questioned, even though she knew the man would have come to her suite if he had called her and she didn’t show up. He would have been furiously yelling in her hall.

"Nope. He went out with Markus. The man is so handsome. I can’t believe you two are engaged." The girl said dreamingly and Asli shot a disgusting look her way.

"Get out!" She was harsh but she did not care. Why would she ever think she could be engaged to Ahmet’s relative when he and her had already slept together?

But how would Matilda know that?

"He will make a fine husband." The little one pushed. Asli knew would not be able to keep her cool any longer if she continued to tease her so she shot her an angry look.

"Fine. Now let’s go and eat." Matilda finally retired her teasing when she noticed her total distaste.

Asli ignored her and went inside the bathroom to freshen up. She didn’t have any major plans in her schedule.

Ahmet

The name just flashed through her head and if not for the mirror, she wouldn’t have believed she smiled when the name came to mind.

She walked out and after changing her clothes, she checked her phone. He had sent a message. Not too many of them.

She opened them and the last one was him making sure she was okay. Then there was one. ’I’m only checking up on you because this is your first time. Mine too.’

What was he talking about? Was he checking up on her because he broke her virginity or did he mean he was a virgin too? The thought of Ahmet being a virgin too drew a laugh from her.

"Oh my God. Asli, you laughed. You looked at your phone and laughed!" Matilda rejoiced as she neared her. "Who is it?"

"My new student killed fourteen men and said he wants to kill more. I am proud of him." she lied and the young girl withdrew from her, disappointedly.

Why did she lie? She did not know why she lied and she did not care. She couldn’t just tell her she was Ahmet last night and he was responsible of her smiling this evening.

"What was I thinking? You are a woman of steel. Nothing normal can ever make you smile. How did I ever think someone can make you smile when all you think about is guns." Matilda told her and opened the door for her.

Asli did not say anything and before the little girl could say anything, she stopped walking and studied her walking.

"Okay, why are you limping?" She asked, concern laced in her tone.

"Am I?" She tried to brush it off. "What did Ruth prepare?"

"It is the usual meal. You know the menu already unless you request for something else." She pressed on the ’you’ to imply only her was responsible for changing a meal. She then continued to disturb her. "Did you do something bad?" Matilda stopped walking while looking at Asli’s leg.

"I’ve never done anything good before." Asli answered, feigning her innocence but the little one was not buying that.

"That’s a lie." She tried to argue.

"Is it?" Asli also asked.

"Yes. You don’t scare me one bit. First of all, you are limping and second, you only talk much when you do something wrong."

"What do you mean?" she asked, keeping her pace steady despite the sweet pain, determined not to wince with every step.

Matilda pointed at her legs, her eyes narrowing in curiosity. "You got shot, didn’t you?" she said. "But why are you limping this time? You never limp when you get shot."

"Keep at it and you will find out first hand." She tried to warn but Asli was the least person Matilda was scared of unless she was angry and currently she wasn’t.

They walked towards her dining area and saw someone seated in one of the chairs, his back facing her.

"Have I not told you all not to let strangers into my space?" Asli shot an angry look at Ruth. Her nanny only opened her hands feigning her innocence.
