Top Assassins Call Me The Lady Boss-Chapter 61: Call this a first warning
Chapter 61: Call this a first warning
Chapter Sixty- One
Markus shoved his empty plate aside, the scrape of ceramic against wood sharp in the quiet room. His phone buzzed, disturbing the silence. He glanced at the screen and it was Asli’s father.
’Where are you?’ The message was written on the screen.
His jaw tightened. Fingers curling around the device, he exhaled sharply through his nose, and a low growl rumbled in his throat.
He thought the man was going to give him at least two days to get away from him. Why was he asking where he was? Was he, not the same person who asked him to leave?
’I want you to follow me to Maxwell’s household. Shoot anyone who is a threat.’ the message followed the first one.
He yelled while he threw his spoon inside the empty bowl. Where was Asli that he had to go with him? Did she not come back? Did she sleep outside?
He had to tell Ahmet something before he even left. Where was Ahmet, even?
Did he also not return last night? If he did, they would’ve even trained together this morning. Since he didn’t call him, or see him during their training hours, he was certain Ahmet was still not back.
’The imbecile is out there having fun while I am in the mess!’ he thought with a smile. He was going to pay him back.
Markus eased the car to a stop outside Marco’s Villa, the engine’s low hum fading as he killed the ignition. He draped his right hand over the steering wheel, tapping his fingers against the leather.
Outside, warm light spilled from Marco’s library’s windows, shadows shifting behind the curtains. He exhaled, staring ahead for a moment, then ran a hand through his hair before finally pushing the door open and stepping out.
His footsteps crunched against the gravel path before continuing into the corridor. Every step is measured and unhurried.
As he approached the door, he raised his fist and knocked three times. The silence lasted a beat before a voice from inside yelled out. Without hesitation, he pushed open the door and entered.
"What took you so long?" Marco’s voice almost sounded like he was yelling, though his face was calm but angry. He was always angry. Had there ever been a day he had seen him with a happy face before?
Markus stayed put as he ordered him to follow him.
The drive was quiet and awkward. Nobody uttered a word and he could sense fear radiating through the driver and the other man who accompanied them. Was the man that scary?
They pulled over in front of Maxwell’s Villa. Markus never liked the cocky brat anyway. How dare he plan to touch Asli without her permission? He didn’t know why that triggered him on a different level.
He didn’t know why he wanted to protect the girl. He didn’t go after him because he knew Asli didn’t need anyone fighting her battles for her and even if she did, he was well aware Ahmet would be first to jump to that.
He knew how lonely she was. She had no friends and wouldn’t let anyone in. He pitied her. Though she was powerful and could not care less about her own well-being, he wished she at least knew how beautiful life was. He didn’t know why he cared for her. Maybe, it was because of Ahmet.
"Welcome, Mr. Marco. What brings you here? You didn’t call before coming." Maxwell’s father greeted him with a smile. These two were friends. But, with men like them, could they even call anyone a friend?
Marco didn’t answer, he walked past him and went inside. The other man had a huge frown on and Markus followed without greeting too.
"What is the meaning of this?" The other man felt disrespected. He wouldn’t blame him for that.
"I am here for your son." Marco finally spoke.
"My son? He is probably at the golf house. He’s taking care of business." The man seemed proud of his son. Imbeciles. Markus wanted to yell but controlled himself.
"I see. So I must think you do not know what he did, right?" Marco questioned and the other man asked him to go straight to the point. Both of them were heated up.
"He had the audacity to ambush me!" He finally screamed at the other man who looked like he couldn’t believe the words from Marco’s mouth.
"Maxwell may be a lot of things but ambushing my friends is not one of them." The man informed him. The ’my friend’ was pronounced differently to send a message to Marco.
"Really? So you mean to call me a liar." He stated and everyone in the room could not say what exactly could happen next.
Both men were not showing any signs they could conclude on. The other man genuinely looked confused and Markus could not blame him. His son did everything but ambush Asli’s father. It was a set up by her, to punish him.
"Call him!" Marco insisted and the other man, picked up his phone to call his son. If Marco wanted to punish Maxwell that badly, he would’ve haunted him down and killed him.
However, when he came to his father and was having this conversation with him, Markus could not tell what he was planning.
"Did you ambush Mr. Marco?" The man didn’t even exchange pleasantries with his son. He went straight to the reason he called. He placed the call on loudspeaker for them to hear them since he was certain his son was innocent.
"Why would I do that?" Maxwell answered. He was as pissed as any of them would’ve been. "He has a crazy daughter he needs to put in check!"
"You heard him," the man turned to Marco who didn’t even react to hearing someone call his daughter crazy.
"Who hurt who?" Maxwell tried to figure it out on the other side of the phone as if trying to figure out who should be throwing a tantrum.
"I have just one question, little man. What happened to your ear?" Marco asked. He didn’t think Maxwell would tell him the truth. To him, it was a good thing Asli had told him how to identify the culprit by the ear.
"Your crazy daughter shot it!" Maxwell yelled over the phone. That was all Marco needed to hear. "The bitch shot it and I’m going to ruin her too, just wait for it." Marco stretched his hand, his fingers hung the phone up. He watched as Maxwell’s father placed the phone back into his pocket.
"Your daughter shot my son and you come here to ask about an ambush?" Oh, this man was clueless.
Marco was quiet. Then he immediately drew his gun. He was so fast even Markus didn’t see when it happened. All he saw was him pointing his gun at his friend.
"What is the meaning of this?" The other man asked. His men were equally pointing guns at Marco too.
Markus should have pointed his gun at them too. But his loyalty was not with anyone in the room. However, Marco thought he was on his side and he needed him to think that way.
Must he fake pointing the gun? He hated this situation Ahmet had put him in. He also took his gun out.
Marco began to speak. "I end any alliance I have with you..."
But was quickly cut off by Maxwell’s father. "Like hell, I want to be friends with you after this encounter."
"I am going to forgive him since we were friends when it happened. However, I will kill your son if he tries anything like that again!" That was all Marco said before turning his back to him, hoping Markus and the other would protect him while left.
"I would not dare if I were you. Touch my son and your stupid daughter would die too. I will not tell you twice. I will harm everyone in your Villa." The man threatened back but there was panic his his tone.
Markus wondered why they visited if they weren’t going to fight or do anything extraordinary. Did Marco not trust Asli when she told him? Did he come to confirm it?
Besides, why did he warn Maxwell’s father instead of him, himself?
"Markus, this is your next assignment. I hope you don’t disappoint me this time. Prove to me you are capable. Make sure to counteract whatever plan he has from today till I tell you to stop." Marco began to say once they entered their car and drove off.
He knew what the older man was asking him to do. He was going to punish him slowly, to prove he was useless and when word got out his operations were failing, no Mafia would entrust any deal with him again.
Markus nodded while he looked out of the window, figuring out how that would favor Ahmet and their own Villa.
