The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 374 - 367: Friendly Forces
Chapter 374: Chapter 367: Friendly Forces
The car’s speed was not too slow; although it was only in first gear, Gao Yuan had put some rather large rocks on the accelerator, so it could be understood that the pedal was floored.
The pickup’s speed grew faster and faster, eventually reaching nearly thirty kilometers an hour, and roughly maintained a straight line towards the building where Li Yang and his group were located.
The enemies on both sides opened fire on the pickup together, with machine guns sweeping across, the body of the vehicle riddled with countless bullet holes, but the pickup stubbornly pressed on until it was hit by a 23mm cannon shell, it never stopped moving.
Gao Yuan let out a light sigh; he knew it was unlikely that the car would have a chance to make it to Li Yang and the others, but to be completely destroyed after covering only a third of the distance was still quite disappointing to him.
What was particularly disappointing was that if there had been someone in the car, they would have definitely been turned into a sieve by the dense fire from both sides.
Ashraf held his gun; he could indeed fire at the enemy, but there were too many of them, they were too far away, and they didn’t expose much of their bodies for him to shoot.
Ashraf put down his gun, his face marked with disappointment as he said it was no good.
The simplest of words, Gao Yuan was able to understand some of them.
This breakout was truly not easy to pull off. Gao Yuan twisted his neck painfully, shook his head as if that would make him more alert and come up with more ideas.
Ashraf, who had reluctantly put down his gun, suddenly looked surprised, then frowned and let out a heavy sigh.
"What’s wrong?"
Gao Yuan looked at Ashraf, who pointed southward and then placed his hand on Gao Yuan’s shoulder, shaking his head helplessly.
Gao Yuan turned around and saw, in the far south, a cloud of dust rising in the distance.
Of course, there was a road from Sirte to Abu Hadi Airport, but this was a desert highway, and no one was maintaining it now, so it had long been covered by sand. However, the floating dust suggested the width was clearly not from a convoy driving along the road.
It looked more like a very wide formation coming their way.
Gao Yuan murmured softly, "Damn! There’s someone coming from the south."
After speaking to himself, Gao Yuan picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "There are people coming from the south, a lot of them, an imposing procession..."
After putting down the walkie-talkie, Ashraf spoke softly, and Li Yang then said over the radio, "Enemy reinforcements? Probably. Nemesis! You know what to do, Ol’Gun, take him out."
The last sentence of Li Yang was addressed to Ashraf. Ashraf looked into Gao Yuan’s eyes, slowly shook his head, then made a retreat gesture and said a sentence.
Li Yang said over the radio, "Ol’Gun says to drive off quickly, if we wait any longer, it won’t be easy to leave, the enemy is moving fast."
If it really was a large number of enemy reinforcements, then they indeed had to leave.
Gao Yuan sighed but quickly said, "But why couldn’t it be the Angel Mercenary Corps launching a counterattack? If it’s enemy reinforcements, wouldn’t they spread out so wide when coming back?"
Li Yang said over the radio, "What? Mr. Hao, go see what’s going on in the south!"
Li Yang saying that meant he definitely was not in a position to move; otherwise, he wouldn’t have needed to ask Li Jingang to observe what was happening.
At that moment, the enemies who had been focusing their attention on Gao Yuan and the building finally made their move.
On the right side, the west, and especially those close to the artillery position, were the first to move; they almost simultaneously started to head west, while on the left side, the east, after a short while, about a dozen people also abruptly left their positions and began to sprint with all their might.
Ashraf froze for a moment, his mouth agape as he took a step forward.
Seeing the enemy truly making a frantic dash, abandoning all heavy weaponry and running westward without a care, was a sight to behold.
The tables had turned; the enemies from the east running west had to cross the open ground between Gao Yuan and Li Yang, meaning they had to dash through the crossfire from both sides. Nevertheless, they refused to detour south or north.
This move by the enemy made Gao Yuan’s mouth drop open, then he stretched out his right hand, haphazardly grabbed Ashraf’s sleeve, and pulled fiercely, excitedly shouting, "What did I say, what did I say! Haha! The enemy is running, those who come are the allies!"
Gao Yuan felt something wasn’t right in his grasp; when he turned around, he realized he had torn off Ashraf’s entire sleeve.
But at this moment, Ashraf too was filled with fervor, shouting excitedly with his entire right arm exposed, babbling joyously and rapidly at Gao Yuan.
Gao Yuan picked up the walkie-talkie and nonchalantly tossed Ashraf’s sleeve to the ground, then he yelled, "The enemy’s all pulling out! They’re running, the allies have come! The allies!"
Gao Yuan didn’t need to inform Li Yang and the others as they already knew, because two machine guns were firing at that moment, using bursts of short shots to take down those who were trying to escape.
Gao Yuan released the transmit button, and after a brief pause, he heard a cacophony of shouts through the walkie-talkie.
Amidst the exhilarated shouting, Li Yang yelled hoarsely, "Take cover! You guys take cover first, don’t get hit by mistake, and, which way are the enemies running? Where are Xinghe and his team?"
To the west of Sirte lies Misrata, and further west is Tripoli. Gao Yuan and his team landed on the western side of Sirte, about ten kilometers away. If the enemy came from Misrata and now had to retreat back towards it, there was a high chance they would run into Xinghe and his team.
"They’re heading west! But it’s fine, they must have boarded the ships already; we had agreed on this!"
The dust became more and more apparent, and a dark line had emerged in the southern desert, while Ashraf had already raised his binoculars to observe the approaching dark line from the south.
Gao Yuan subtly picked up Ashraf’s sleeve from the ground and said, "Ol’Gun, how did your sleeve come off?"
Ashraf glanced at Gao Yuan, took off the binoculars from around his neck, and then babbled a stream of words.
Gao Yuan, pressing the transmit button, waited for Ashraf to finish, then said, "Translate that."
"Ol’Gun says to quickly find a place to hide, whether it’s the enemy or allies coming. Observe first and then confirm; for now, go find a house in the city to take cover."
Gao Yuan hastily said, "We should find a place to hide, and you guys hang a white flag in the window, put up our flag to avoid being hit by mistake, or else get out of there fast, now that the enemy’s all gone."
"No way, it’s not convenient to move! You two don’t come over here, let’s stay separate; it’s better for responding to any situation that might arise."
After great trials and tribulations, the enemy was finally driven away, but there truly was no need to regroup just yet. Gao Yuan turned his head to Ashraf and said, "First, let’s take cover!"
