Two years later.
Luna checked the flower arrangements around the house for the umpteenth time.
Seeing her obsess over decorations, Jiang Xingyu couldn’t help coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her. His hands rubbed her growing belly.
Linhou and Yue were returning today, and they had decided to throw them a party.
The fact that Linhou was once again a big brother would be a huge surprise. The whole family had decided to keep it a secret from both Yue and Linhou for now.
Xingyu kissed her neck. "Take it easy, my love. Everything looks perfect already."
She swatted his hands away so she would focus on the preparations. "I have to make sure the food is alright too. They will be here any minute now."
He chuckled, but kept his remark to himself. If he said he knew the only reason she was checking on the food was to get a snack to eat, he would be exiled to the living room again.
It was only a week ago that he was banned from the master bedroom for smiling too much at dinner.
In her defense, she was having the worst pregnancy. Third time was certainly not the charm in this case. She was in a horrible mood when she banned him for smiling.
But she couldn’t blame him, could she? She was the reason for his happiness. Ever since they met, his life had taken the best turn.
Even when he thought he couldn’t be any happier, he caught a look at her and his heart raced like it did the first time they met.
Knowing better than to tell her how beautiful she was right now, he kissed her cheek and followed her to the kitchen to help with the food.
Yue and Linhou finally arrived just as the sun started to set, having been picked from the airport by Han Xichen and Xiaoshi.
As soon as they got out of the car, they were enveloped in one hug after another. It was like the day they left all over again, except this time, everyone had changed. It had been two years after all.
Linhou was much taller with broad shoulders and darker hair, and Yue had even dyed her hair raven-black. It made her look more beautiful than ever.
When she caught sight of Luna’s belly, her jaw dropped.
"Oh my God! Aunt Luna, congratulations!"
Luna pulled her into a hug. "It’s nice to see you again too, sweetheart. And thank you."
She then hugged her son. "Don’t you look handsome? London’s that good, huh?"
"Nah, it’s the company." He winked. He would enjoy living anywhere with her, though he had to admit London was great. They also got to travel to almost every other major city they had ever wanted to visit, and like Yue promised, took pictures and made memories. Some more lasting than others.
Over dinner, Yue finally spoke up. "Linhou and I have something to tell you."
"What is it?" Xiaomu asked, still marveling at how much the duo had changed. It was even more profound than in the pictures they exchanged.
Yue and Linhou exchanged glances, grinning so happily they couldn’t contain it. "We..."
They started at the same time before Linhou nodded to let Yue do the honors.
"We’re going to be parents."

After the festivities following Yue and Linhou’s return, Lanni and Xiehan spent the next afternoon lounging by the swimming pool. Lanni sat between Xiehan’s legs as she rested her head against his chest.
Nearby, the water from the fountain roared as a gentle tune played from a speaker installed in the fountain.
Lanni turned to glance up at her husband. "The fountain turned out much better than I thought."
"I knew you would like it." He kissed the top of her head.
She smirked. "If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you have some ulterior motives. What are you plotting, Xiehan?"
In response to her words, he shifted his position and stood, taking her in his arms in one fell swoop. He still carried her like she weighed nothing.
"I’m plotting a way to get into your pants." He whispered.
She smiled. "You know you’d have to work harder than that, right?"
He knew she was joking but he took that as a challenge.
Once he got into the house, he set her down on the living room couch and gently kissed his way down her body.
It was a good thing Xiuhan had long moved out of the house, because there was no way he was holding back tonight. He had missed her way too much.
The day before, they had spent most of the day over at Luna’s to welcome Linhou and Yue back, then Lanni had painted all night. He needed to be inside her. An entire day and night away was way too long.
....
Later, Lanni had a cotton blanket wrapped around her as she finished up the details of her painting.
Over the years, she had drawn inspiration from every happy moment she had shared with her loved ones.
All the paintings hanging on the walls in the mansion and the ones in her gallery showed just how many happy moments there had been. She couldn’t even count them if she tried.
Right now, she was finishing up the one she had started yesterday, one she didn’t think she would ever get to draw.
Yue and Luna stood at the forefront, both smiling happily about something. Luna had one hand on her belly. During their last ultrasound, it had been revealed that they were expecting a boy—just like Yue and Linhou were.
Once again, there would be a magical duo running around in the family.
Yue and Linhou had gotten engaged in London right after Yue’s graduation, and they would get married soon after settling back into the city.
Lanni smiled at the thought as she stroked her brush a few more times to add some details. When Xiehan brought her a cup of coffee, she took it and rested her head against his chest, melting into his embrace.
Their life had been no fairy tale, but if this was a glimpse of what they call ’happily ever after’, they certainly deserved it.
