Chapter 215: A Sibling Clash

The boss’ son?

Cassie felt weak in her knees, no one had told her a damn thing about the old man having a son!

She inwardly hissed, ’Mother you useless bitch! How could you miss such an important detail?!’ she cursed, vowing to teach Serena a lesson when she saw her next.

Keeping her composure Cassie pouted, "Brother, it’s a good thing you’ve come, this maid was bullying me." She said, failing to notice the brief disgust in Kayden’s eyes when she called him her brother.

She continued to rant, "Had you come earlier you might’ve heard all the mean things she said! I was just teaching her a lesson and reminding her her place in this house."

Fully, she expected him to take her side and perhaps even join in on punishing the maid. The maid must’ve thought it too, because when Kayden stretched his hand out she closed her eyes and clenched her muscles.

However, he gently placed his hands on both shoulders and looked her apologetically in the eye.

"Are you hurt in any way?" He asked with all seriousness.

The stunned maid answered, "No sir! Madam Cassie didn’t harm me."

But Kayden’s eyes fell to the finger markings on her face, he clicked his tongue and returned his gaze to Cassie. His sister flashed him a confident grin, as she expected him to say something in her favor.

His voice calm, Kayden asked, "Who gave you the authority to lay a hand on the maids here?"

Oblivious to what exactly he was asking she responded, "I’m sorry for interfering brother, but I couldn’t just sit back and let her insult me."

Naturally, Cassie believed he was angry at her personally disciplining his maids. She understood his anger, she went on, "I too would be angry if someone else taught my servants a lesson. Next time I’ll let you be the one to handle the matter."

Hearing her talk, Kayden couldn’t help but laugh, "It’s just as I thought. A mistress’ child is just as shameless as their parent. It was foolish of me to assume you were any better."

Genuinely, Kayden had considered the child of his father’s lover to be a victim, just like him, caught in the web of his father’s mistakes. But, watching her closely, he immediately dismissed those thoughts.

Cassie scoffed, "Shameless? Defending myself is now considered shameless? When this wretched bitch came at me first, how could I take it lying down?!" Her raised voice lured some of the maids cleaning the premises to gather at the door, eavesdropping on the situation.

Kayden rolled his eyes, "It is pointless talking to you." He turned to leave but Cassie reached out and grabbed him by the wrist!

"What the hell do you mean by that?! Are you looking down on me too?! Last time I checked, my mother was married to the old man when she had me! So who the hell is the real illegitimate one here?!" She raged, hitting a sore spot for Kayden.

While it was true his mother was engaged to Julian, they never got married, she found out she was pregnant only after Julian had called off the wedding and left the country. So technically, he was the one born out of wedlock and the child born abroad was the legitimate one.

Triggered, he ripped off her touch and flung her aside, still showing enough restraint not to harm her.

With a stern glare he told her, "The business, all the properties and all assets have been willed in my name. So no matter what you say or do, you have nothing, you fucking gold digger."

Cassie snorted, "Oh, so that’s how it is. You’re more despicable than I give you credit for brother. You managed to steal my wealth just because I was missing." She folded her arms, "You just wait and see, I’ll get everything that belongs to me back!"

Kayden’s scowl deepened. "If you think for a second that the business my mother and aunt Susan gave their all into building would slip into your hands, I’m afraid you have another thing coming." He stepped forward and looked her directly, making sure his point was gotten.

"As long as I’m around, you will never get a single penny out of my family." he said meaning every single word.

In a lighter tone he told her, "And while you’re freeloading here, you’d better behave yourself, or I can’t guarantee just how I’m going to get back at you. And mind you Cassie, that is not a baseless threat."

’This bastard! Just like Brooke, I cannot stand the mere sight of him! I really want to make him suffer!’ she balled her fists, her mind in a thousand places all at once.

In turn, Cassie put in a promise of her own. "No matter what you do, I will take everything that belongs to me, and you dear brother will learn the real difference between the both of us. Which one is a legitimate heir, and which one is just a mistress’ bastard!"

Kayden was angry, his late mother had never been insulted before and definitely not by a classless wench. He would’ve flared up at her, but he kept her cool and left with the last word in the conversation.

"Keep this at the back of your mind, I am not my father. Unlike him, I’m not going to put up with your nonsense. Pull a stunt like this ever again in this house, and I’ll make you suffer greatly for it." He said then walked out of the room with all the maids in tow.

On his way out, he was met by his father and aunt, who must’ve heard their voices arguing some seconds ago. He noticed the worried look in his father’s eyes, and couldn’t help but get angered even more.

His tone laced with spite he said, "Don’t worry, your bastard son didn’t lay a finger on your previous legitimate daughter." Then he left without waiting to hear anything back from Julian.
