The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 300: Father and Son (2)
Chapter 300: Father and Son (2)
Spade would be lying if he said that he was fine with his omega father not talking with him or being angry with him. At the end of the day, Liviera was someone precious to him that he wanted to protect.
It was only that his omega father had some strong tendencies, and Spade was afraid he would lose him slowly if he let Liviera risk his life just to take his revenge.
Of course, he understood where he was coming from, and Spade’s desire to take revenge was no less than his. Yet, as a son, he didn’t want his last parent to leave him as well.
And so, limiting his movements was the least that he could do. And who would’ve expected that, inside this very palace, he nearly lost his omega father?
He sat on the seat next to the bed and faced his omega father, who was only watching him and not saying anything.
"How do you feel?" Spade inquired; he also stared at his omega father intently. It was as if he was making sure he was fine or that... He was indeed real.
Liviera was more perceptive than Arren, and he noticed this slight fluctuation in his emotions, but he didn’t ask; that was how he was.
Perhaps, since then, Liviera had long known that his son was reliable, and he was much more responsible than he ever was. Although he knew that he was never a good parent to Spade, Liviera was really proud of how Spade had become a ruler that even his husband could never hope to achieve.
"I’m not completely recovered," he answered. While it sounded sarcastic, his tone was calm, as though merely stating a fact. "But, you know how tenacious I am. I’ll be fine after a while."
Liviera’s wounds were still so fresh that they felt uncomfortable, but he decided to meet Spade, as he knew his son would visit him, so he let the nurses and his attendants leave for a while.
After a while, he didn’t let Spade answer and instead asked another question.
"How is he?" This time, he was asking about Arren. Liviera, though he could scent something mixed with his son’s pheromones, still asked.
Hearing this answer, Spade’s expression significantly softened, and even Liviera couldn’t help but be affected as well.
"He’s with his father right now."
And while Spade had not directly answered the question, this only confirmed that Arren was now safe. As for the omega condition, he was actually healthy, but that couldn’t be said mentally, and so Spade didn’t want to tell Arren was completely fine.
Whatever the case, Liviera was already satisfied to know that Arren was safe.
And then he asked, all of a sudden, which made Spade slightly surprised.
"How about you, son? How are you?"
Spade fell silent for a moment as he suddenly found it hard to answer that question. That was a simple question, but when it came from his own father, he was momentarily at a loss.
Since when was the last time his father asked about his well-being? Spade had long forgotten when they had this kind of conversation. Even Liviera himself was not sure when was the last time he had asked this question to Spade.
Spade was too outstanding; even when he was a kid, no one was directly opposed to him being a crown prince. There was never once a claim that his royal bloodline was what made him an heir to the throne.
And at some point, Liviera had this impression that his son didn’t need any guidance at all and that he was smart enough to tread ahead only with his abilities. And so, when he took over the responsibilities of Liviera’s regency, Liviera only thought that his son had spread his wings much earlier than his peers.
He relied on him, and he trusted him. Spade was Liviera’s pride. And so, for years, he only stood behind his son as if Spade were a huge shed that protected him from the sun and rain.
And honestly, Liviera couldn’t entirely be blamed for this impression, as Spade was indeed an imposing figure that stood atop the world. His back was someone he relied on for years.
Still, Liviera admitted he did neglect his son; he was too busy wallowing in his despair, and that was not even enough justification for his actions.
Spade bit his lips and lowered his gaze, not wanting to look his omega father in the eyes. He was afraid that his real feelings could be seen through.
How many times did he want to hear this? How much he longed for his father’s concern. Spade then reached the point where... He stopped hoping for so much from him.
He did indeed spread his wings and fly so high, but... There was a point where one could get tired and want to come home and rest in their parent’s embrace.
Yet, throughout the years, Spade only lingered outside; he never broke Liviera’s doors. Liviera shut himself tight and never once let him in.
His feelings for his father were... well, complicated.
Spade took a deep breath, and slowly, he lifted his gaze to meet his father’s eyes once more. This time, Liviera wasn’t as calm as before; the rim of his eyes was red for an impending tear that was about to fall.
Liviera’s expression made Spade’s heart pound; each time he saw him cry, he felt like his heart was going to tear to pieces. As the only time he saw his father cry was when his late father was involved, now that it somehow related to him... Spade somehow didn’t know what to feel.
In a way, Spade inherited this trait from him. Both of them were not expressive of their emotions, and they barricaded their hearts through multiple walls.
"Am I too late... son?" Liviera finally couldn’t hold it in, and his tears fell.
There were a lot of things he realized, and the biggest was how he harshed the expectations he gave Spade. Even he had become blinded by this.
Spade’s mouth parted, and he breathed. His heart swelled from inexplicable emotions that were hard for him to express. However, slowly, he shook his head and looked at his father in the eye, his hand reaching out to wipe his father’s tears.
"It will never be too late. You will never be late."
Liviera had told him the same thing before, but it was Spade who was late.
