Chapter 784: Chapter 784: Abigail’s Marriage is Brought Up Again

Eva Bell was sent back to the manor at eleven p.m., along with a lot of medical equipment.

Since Elder Piers had just returned from the hospital, James Carter stayed at the manor. After Eva was brought in, James took over.

Eva, who had undergone surgery, couldn’t cause Abigail any more trouble. Once she was sent to the small building to recuperate, Abigail let out a heavy sigh of relief.

Perhaps tired, Abigail returned to her room, took a shower, and fell asleep with her hair still wet. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Brandon Piers came in, sat by the bedside, carefully dried her hair, and tucked her in. But instead of lying down, he quietly left the bedroom.

Returning to the study, Brandon turned on the computer. The others were already waiting for him.

"Report the situation." Brandon opened the video conference, without any pleasantries, going straight to the point.

"Daniel Piers’s movements in F Nation have been sent to you. As you predicted, he’s not genuinely trying to assist you but is using this situation to solidify his power in Europe. Although the accounts of the European channels he managed appear perfect on the surface, they’ve been used for his personal gain. This time, under the pretense of investigating Joshua Piers, he’s secretly collaborating with the Croft Family," Alex reported the situation in Europe to Brandon.

"Keep a close eye on that but be careful. The third branch is full of hypocrites. Don’t let them catch you off guard." Brandon reminded with caution. When Daniel had approached him initially, he found it odd, so he had Alex keep an eye out, not expecting to uncover so much.

Alex responded, then paused, his tone puzzled, "Second Young Master, I find Daniel a bit strange. He went to Montmartre yesterday."

"Hmm? If he’s really involved in the Croft Family’s business, what’s odd about going there?" Brandon frowned. Although he framed it that way, he didn’t stop Alex from continuing his report. He knew that if Alex found something off, there was definitely an issue.

Alex chose his words carefully, "He shouldn’t have gone there for business, but rather... to hire a prostitute."

"Hmm?" Brandon raised his eyebrows slightly, his eyes showing disbelief. He and Daniel had competed against each other enough that he knew Daniel’s character to some extent. The man was both hypocritical and self-disciplined, so how could he possibly go to Montmartre to hire a prostitute.

Alex coughed awkwardly, "It’s probably just a cover. He should have other motives. Also, he’s spent heavily to find those who kidnapped him last time. But don’t worry, I’ll handle it."

"Hmm." Brandon nodded, then looked at Kelvin Max. "What’s up with Oliver Piers?"

"He transferred all of Piers’s shares to Joshua Piers." Kelvin’s statement was calm, but it left everyone in the meeting nonplussed. Transferred? Were they crazy or was Oliver Piers insane?

"What’s your take on this?" Brandon paused for two seconds.

"On the surface, he was coerced. Hidden behind the scenes, a different agreement must have been signed. I also discovered that Oliver has a private investment company registered under a twenty-five-year-old girl, a former small star from Jerry Entertainment. The two seem to have a relationship of... patronage." Kelvin, recalling the details he had uncovered, showed a rare expression of disgust.

Brandon caught the subtle expression on Kelvin’s face through the screen. "Is there a problem?"

"This company claims to be a biotechnology pharmaceutical company, but it has been siphoning off Piers’s resources behind the scenes. Piers outsourced a lot of work to them, including international transportation of equipment and drugs, which connects to Daniel Piers’s operations in Europe." Kelvin’s words brought some hidden facts to light.

Brandon remained silent for a while, then looked at Luke Scout, who had been quietly observing. "What’s your opinion?"

"Send me the specific data, I will focus on investigating it." Others had considered the implications, and so had Luke.

"Hmm. You two, send a copy of the data to Captain Scout as well." Brandon was not stingy.

Luke was pleased but spoke seriously next, "The mercenaries that entered the country earlier are likely a decoy. Their true goal is to open up the Asian market, with the largest market in Asia being our country. Over the years, state actions have deterred many from pushing their limits, but this time their aggressive approach has targeted Piers. If they succeed, the country won’t be peaceful for the next decade. So I’m counting on you all."

The others listened with solemn expressions. They hadn’t expected Piers to be entangled in such an international incident, nor did they know whether the third branch intended to get themselves killed or drag everyone else down with them.

And what about Joshua Piers... what was his objective?

By the time the video conference concluded, it was already two in the morning. Brandon sat in the study, facing the faintly glowing computer screen. His handsome face had lost the ease he displayed around Abigail, replaced with an indescribable heaviness.

If this matter didn’t end well, let alone cleansing Piers, the entire Piers family might be implicated, and they might not escape unscathed.

Who knew how long he had been sitting at the computer before Brandon stood and walked towards the bedroom.

The sleeping woman seemed to be dreaming, her long legs kicking the blanket aside. Her porcelain-smooth skin glowed in the faint moonlight, making her look especially beautiful and alluring in the quiet room. Brandon carefully lay down on the bed and covered Abigail with the thin blanket.

Abigail mumbled something in her sleep as she sensed movement on the bed, then continued sleeping.

Seeing this, Brandon became even more cautious in his movements, then pulled her into his arms. Smelling her sweet scent, he finally felt his muscles relax a bit.

But he didn’t sleep for long. He woke up and left just before dawn.

When Abigail woke up, the side next to her was still empty. Frowning, she reached for her phone and saw a note underneath from Brandon: "Not home today, be good."

Abigail found the last two words somewhat off-putting but couldn’t help smiling. She then got up energetically to dress and feed her son. As she brought Teddy downstairs, she saw the luggage in the living room and Daniel, who had been missing since sending her grandfather and Clara Smith to the manor, now standing beside Clara.

"What’s going on?" Abigail asked, holding Teddy, confused as she looked at them.

Elder Piers grumbled, "It’s this old man, he lost a few games of chess and now insists on returning to his Courtyard House. What’s so great about that place?"

Abigail understood, "Grandpa, you’re moving back with Aunt?"

"We’ve stayed here since returning to the country. If we don’t go back now, we might forget where our home is, right?" Church Smith made sure to involve Clara Smith in his words.

Clara coughed awkwardly, "We’ve imposed on you at the manor for too long, it’s time we went back. Abigail, take good care of yourself here. Bring Teddy home often if you can."

"But..."

"You haven’t even got a marriage certificate yet and already plan on staying in someone’s home with your child?" Elder Piers huffed, reminding a certain Piers member that the couple hadn’t registered their marriage.

Elder Piers realized, "Yes, we should start preparing for the wedding. Why don’t you stay and we can discuss it further?"

"Dream on. Since when does the woman initiate a discussion on the marriage?" Church Smith sneered, then added, "Let that guy come and talk himself."

Abigail couldn’t help but face-palm. How did this conversation get here?
