Chapter 390: Chapter 183 Little Mage, You Can’t Protect Anyone_3
He was certain that Chris was here, but without any reference points and with Dolly’s vague description, he couldn’t pinpoint the exact location.
About ten minutes later, Wayne, using his Super Vision, saw a glow.
The light that could not scatter was confined to a specific area by an invisible force. It took the shape of a pillar, about fifty meters high, a style very familiar to Wayne.
Obelisk!
Wayne drew a sharp breath and thought to himself that fortune had come easily. He knew only that the Obelisk Stone Tablet was hidden somewhere in Lundan but had never expected that the lost treasure was picked up by Aub.
"Not Aub, more likely something from the Magic Department..."
"This traitor, he sure knows how to betray his country!"
Wayne quickened his pace towards the place, cursing ’traitor’ under his breath as if he were truly loyal to the Queen.
Approaching the Obelisk, Wayne stepped onto a paved stone surface.
The flat expanse was a kilometer wide, with the Obelisk standing tall at its center, surrounded by paved stone with grooves crisscrossing, some straight, and some curved, obviously a large and complex Magic Array from a bird’s-eye view.
Aub had somehow drawn energy from the Obelisk, reassembled the earth, fire, water, and wind according to certain laws, filled the grooves with them, and activated the Magic Array.
Wayne, who had extensively studied magic and was no novice, at a college-student level, had never seen this Magic Array before, nor anything like it, so he couldn’t analyze its effects.
He didn’t have time to ponder; avoiding the grooves where energy spilled out, he found Chris in front of the Obelisk.
She was suspended in mid-air, surrounded by a white halo, her platinum hair waving as if in zero gravity, her eyes closed as if in a deep slumber.
Not just Chris, all the boys and girls Dolly had adopted were there.
They were enveloped by a Magic Array with a hundred-meter diameter, separate from the Obelisk’s energy Magic Array, all their breaths linked as one with the pulsing glow.
Alchemy Array!
Wayne was more familiar with this Alchemy Array; he had studied it previously, knowing it could forcibly extract the Essence of Life. Because he still had scruples, he had abandoned it.
Within the Alchemy Array, Chris’s half-brothers and half-sisters became flesh and blood vials, with each pulse of the glow extracting their Essence of Life, purified in cycles by the Alchemy Array, then infused into Chris in a form she could absorb.
Wayne watched, his eyes heated with envy, wishing he could replace them. After a brief struggle, he decided to interrupt Chris’s opportunity.
Knowing Chris’s character, she’d be horrified to learn she had become powerful by drawing others’ blood and would likely loathe herself for life.
That’s bad for the child!
Wayne stepped into the Alchemy Array, becoming a prime vessel as the glow enveloped him.
It was a good idea, but he was always one to take but never give, guarded by The Book of Greed; he hardly ever actively absorbed from others, so how could an Alchemy Array possibly extract the essence from him.
As expected, the Alchemy Array deemed Wayne to be dregs, not worth squeezing, and the glow on him flickered twice before extinguishing.
"Chris, wake up, the moon’s bum is out."
Wayne leaped into the air and held Chris in his arms, moving away from the Alchemy Array, while his thoughts jolted her awake from her slumber.
Chris’s eyelashes trembled before she slowly opened her eyes, cold and ruthless as a block of ice, piercing Wayne painfully.
This wasn’t the senior he knew.
Wait, not quite!
Wayne had seen Chris’s temperament change drastically before, her icy killing intent was heavy, and he had even suspected for a moment that the gentle and kind senior was just an act.
After testing, it wasn’t an act; she didn’t refuse even such a short skirt, she would have turned hostile by now if she were truly cold-blooded.
When she turned into a cat, her personality varied as well.
So, was it the reason of Divine Blood?
The coldness in Chris’s eyes gradually disappeared, as if she was waking from a dream, and she exclaimed in surprise, "Wayne, why are you here?"
Noticing the overly intimate posture, she blushed and struggled, and upon landing, she saw Wayne daring to display himself, Little Wayne, and with a shocked cry, she jumped back into his arms.
"Why aren’t you wearing clothes?" Chris whispered reproachfully.
"Aren’t you curious about where we are?"
Wayne had lines of frustration on his face; there were more pressing matters than whether or not he was clothed.
Enlightened by his remark, Chris seemed to realize something, and her complexion turned white instantly, looking as bad as it could get.
Dolly had gathered her fostered children and brought them here, and then...
The person they regarded as a mother had personally delivered them to the altar, and to activate the Obelisk, Dolly even allowed the Devil to consume members of The Church.
Chris shivered violently, bowed her head onto Wayne’s shoulder, unaware of her Divine Blood lineage and thinking she was merely a sacrifice who had narrowly escaped death.
"Don’t be afraid, I’ll protect you."
Wayne lowered his head and kissed Chris’s hairline, fixing his gaze on the Obelisk not far away. Regaining the lost was a good thing, but he lacked the power to take it with him at the moment.
"Hehehehe————"
Chilling laughter filled the air, and Wayne looked over in surprise, seeing a blond man emerge effortlessly from the horde of vials within the Alchemy Array.
His eyes were pitch-black, signaling the scent of the Devil to Wayne.
"Little Mage, you can’t protect anyone!"
The Thousand-Eyed Demon showed disdain for Aub’s many arrangements; it was bad enough that he couldn’t be stopped, but now not even a rookie Mage was halted: "Leave that girl behind, she doesn’t belong to you."
"Who says so, I’m taking her home today!"
