Chapter 60: Surprised to Find Women’s Clothes in the Closet

Sawyer smiled, hearing her opinion.

"You have a point, Abby. However, I’m not as skilled as you think. While I can grill meat, my talent isn’t on the same level as a chef’s. But don’t worry, Abby—you won’t go hungry with me around. I’ll make sure to pamper you with delicious food." He promised.

Instantly, Abigail felt a flutter of excitement at his words.

"Can you stop making me flutter?" She asked shyly, but clearly, her eyes beamed with happiness.

Sawyer frowned slightly.

"I’m not trying to do that. But I’m just trying to convey that you won’t be hungry, and you don’t need to enter the kitchen if you’re my girl because I’ll take care of the kitchen for you."

Abigail was speechless, realizing how prominent his words were. Their eyes locked for a brief moment, and she remained silent.

Sawyer couldn’t contain his joy when he noticed her cheeks flush. He could see in her eyes just how happy she was.

’Abigail Snow, you won’t have to wait long to heal from that bastard Ryland. I’ll help you heal faster and ensure that you won’t feel traumatized for a long time,’ he vowed to himself.

Since Sawyer knows her trauma, an idea appears to send a punch to her ex-scum fiance’s face.

’How dare that bastard cause this beautiful Abigail such a missable heartbreak?’ He wondered while silently taking a deep breath to calm his anger.

Abigail said nothing. She turned her gaze away from him and looked at the fire.

She was afraid that Sawyer would twist her words again if she spoke. Or say something that would make her blush.

They sat silently for a few more minutes until Sawyer urged Abigail to go inside to clean up and get some sleep.

When she checked the time, she realized it was almost midnight and agreed with him.

Abigail was reluctant to go upstairs after cleaning the cooking and eating utensils together. She still felt guilty for occupying the bedroom while Sawyer had to sleep in the open space. Seeing the sleeping bag on the chair made her feel even worse.

"Do you want me to walk you upstairs?" Sawyer offered when he noticed her hesitation.

Abigail didn’t respond verbally, but her eyes showed she accepted his offer.

"Alright, I’ll walk you upstairs and show you the room," Sawyer said with a smile, leading the way up the stairs. She followed behind him.

"Abby, don’t worry; I already cleaned the bed and the bathroom so you can use it," Sawyer explained.

When Abigail reached the second floor, she noticed it was bright and had three doors. Sawyer stood at the larger door, waiting for her.

"This is the bedroom. I changed the sheets, and even though there’s no stove up here, there’s a heating system inside, so you don’t have to worry about getting cold. That door is the bathroom, and the last door leads to the warehouse."

He walked towards the bathroom door and opened it. "You can take a bath with hot water. Don’t worry about running water; we have plenty in this cabin..."

Abigail could only nod, amazed to see that the bathroom in this cabin looked modern, much like the one in her house, complete with a washing machine and dryer.

"Sawyer, how can a cabin in the middle of the forest have so much electricity?" Abigail asked curiously, remembering that he had said this was an off-grid cabin.

"Ah, we have solar panel power and a full battery system. Don’t worry about the electricity," he reassured her.

"Okay..."

"Is there anything you want to ask?" Sawyer asked.

Abigail paused momentarily, asking, "Is it okay for you to sleep on the floor?"

"I have an army folding bed, so I don’t sleep on the floor."

Abigail felt a sense of relief; at least he wouldn’t be sleeping on the floor when the temperatures dropped in this place.

"I’m glad to hear that. I won’t feel bad about sleeping in your bed, Sawyer," she said, trying to lighten the mood.

Sawyer chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. He corrected her, "Abby, did I mention that this is my friend’s cabin?"

"And you expect me to believe that? It’s hard to think you can freely use this place and even bring a girl here if it’s your friend’s cabin. Right, Mr. Jones?" Abigail smiled as she noticed him gasp at her words.

"Alright, it’s almost eleven. Go clean first. I’ll use the bathroom after you," Sawyer said before returning to the first floor.

Sawyer wanted to offer to sleep in the same room as her, but he had promised not to rush her. He patiently waited until she was ready to open her heart to him.

...

Abigail stood in place, watching as Sawyer disappeared from her view before entering the bedroom with her backpack in hand.

To her surprise, the room was not too small. A queen-sized bed sat in the middle, dressed in clean white sheets that looked freshly placed, with two nightstands flanking the head of the bed.

At the end of the room was a two-door cupboard. A large glass window decorated the opposite wall, and a three-seater sofa and a coffee table were in front of it.

’Huh? Is the couch big enough for Sawyer to sleep on? Or for me?’ Abigail wondered but quickly dismissed the thought.

It would be embarrassing to ask Sawyer to sleep in this bedroom. What if she snored? He might lose interest in pursuing her.

Abigail couldn’t help but laugh at her foolish thoughts.

After closing the curtains, she turned off the primary light and switched on the lamp at the side of the bed. She hates pitch-dark rooms and prefers softer light when she is about to sleep.

Later,

She opened the closet and was surprised to find two women’s clothes hanging inside: a light pink oversized hoodie and a long black coat. Both items appeared new and were her size.

"Do these belong to someone else? Or did he just place them here?"

Setting aside her thoughts, she unpacked the clothes from her bag and put them in the closet.
