Allure of a Country Maiden-Chapter 433 - 431
Chapter 433: 431
Upon hearing these words, Mrs. Liu regained her reasoning. She was no longer the naïve small-town woman she used to be, she now had her own analytical ability.
She was not surprised that the Prime Minister sought to deal with her family. However, she wondered how Shen Bao’er knew what Prime Minister Li planned to do. If Shen Bao’er was privy to such information, it would mean her standing in the Prime Minister’s Mansion was indeed high. Then, why would Mrs. Liu need to rescue her from such a place!
Mrs. Liu didn’t believe Shen Bao’er. Even if Shen Bao’er knew how the Prime Minister intended to deal with her family, Mrs. Liu doubted she would tell her and instead, might conspire to help the Prime Minister!
"Madam, I have absolutely nothing to do with you. How can I possibly help you escape the Prime Minister’s Mansion? Besides, you’re a concubine there, that’s your home, why would you need a stranger to rescue you! We have to return home, please step aside!"
As Xiao’er watched Shen Bao’er’s dramatic pleas, she mused: some dogs cannot help eating filth!
"Xiao’er, I’m not lying to you. The Prime Minister truly wants to harm you!" Seeing that Mrs. Liu didn’t buy into her scheme, Shen Bao’er tried to grasp Xiao’er’s hand.
Xiao’er avoided her touch, as she was not comfortable with being touched by strangers.
"So what? If we know of his plans, will he then cease his dealings with us? Please move aside, we need to return home. If you obstruct us further, don’t blame my maid for being rude!" Xiao’er spoke, unbothered.
Shen Bao’er, infuriated, nearly fell backward: "If you know how the Prime Minister plans to retaliate, can’t you then devise countermeasures? If you help me escape, I’ll tell you!"
"Thank you, but we don’t need your help. Yang Liu!" Xiao’er declined calmly. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Upon hearing Xiao’er’s instruction, Yang Liu grabbed the collar of Shen Bao’er’s dress, hoisted her up like an eagle capturing a chicken, and tossed her a meter away from the carriage. Then, Yang Liu climbed onto the carriage and made a quick departure.
The dust kicked up by the carriage made Shen Bao’er, who had just regained her footing, cough intensely.
Shen Bao’er was unwilling to give up just yet. It had taken her great effort to find this opportunity to be out on her own.
Just then, another carriage approached her. Unable to resist, she extended her hand to flag it down: "I am the niece of Marquis Shengping, I apologize for stopping your carriage but it’s an emergency. Could you possibly give me a ride?"
"Sorry, there’s no room." The distant and rejecting voice of Ming Zhijie rang out.
Upon hearing this voice, Shen Bao’er felt a shiver go down her spine.
"Young Master Ming, it’s me, Bao’er. I need to see my uncle, can you please give me a lift to the Marquis Mansion?" Shen Bao’er made her voice sound helpless and needy, as though it could drip with tears any moment.
"Laifu, aren’t we going yet?" Ming Zhijie completely ignored her, addressing his coachman instead.
"Yes, young master." Upon hearing this, Laifu gave Shen Bao’er a cold glare, flicked his horsewhip, and set the horses off without caring whether she was in the way.
Laifu had grown up serving Ming Zhijie. At first, when Shen Bao’er stopped their carriage, Laifu didn’t recognize her but felt a sense of familiarity and stopped the carriage. However, as soon as she mentioned her name, he realized who she was. Disgusted, he thought: what a vain and ambitious woman. Who would want to help her?
Shen Bao’er quickly stepped back to avoid being run over. The dust kicked up by the carriage choked her. She hadn’t expected Ming Zhijie to instruct his coachman to instructively leave her behind.
It’s clear that he and Shen Nirui are the ones who wronged her first! How could he show no remorse to her?
Someone selectively forgot that the situation was actually designed by her! Or perhaps, she believed Ming Zhijie was oblivious to her intentional scheming!
Inside the carriage, Ming Zhijie handed Nirui a glass of iced watermelon juice and said softly, "I specifically ordered the servants to bring this. However, it’s no longer cold, but it’s still a bit cool. Have a sip to ease the heat."
Nirui accepted, nodding. "Alright, my dear husband, you should also have a sip."
"Alright."
The atmosphere in the carriage was unaffected by Shen Bao’er.
Di Shaowei and Ming Zhijie were slightly tardy. As they found parking for their carriages, many other carriages had arrived already. The location they could park was rather far away, therefore, they happened to be behind Xiao’er’s carriage, providing Shen Bao’er the opportunity to stop them.
Di Shaowei’s carriage followed immediately behind Ming Zhijie’s. As Shen Bao’er once again extended her hand to flag it down, there was no indication that the carriage would stop, nor was there any concern about hitting her. It headed straight towards her without hesitation.
Seeing the oncoming carriage showed no signs of stopping, Shen Bao’er was startled and quickly stepped out of the way.
Watching from afar as the three carriages left one after another, kicking up dust, Shen Bao’er broke down in tears, "Why won’t anyone help me! Why?!"
This won’t do. She can’t go back to the Prime Minister’s Mansion! Recalling the inhumane treatment from Li Yunhua, she no longer dared to stay at the mansion.
Shen Bao’er intended to escape while she could. She stood up and looked back, noticing that the people of the Prime Minister’s Mansion weren’t looking in her direction. She hurried towards the area filled with refugees.
Shen Bao’er had good intentions, but Prime Minister Li was already one step ahead of her. Just as she was about to exchange clothes with a refugee woman, her maid appeared behind her and unexpectedly said:
"Madam, it’s time to return to the mansion."
Shen Bao’er screamed as if she had seen a ghost, "I won’t go back, you go first!"
The maid directly grabbed her hand and walked towards where the Prime Minister’s Mansion’s carriages were parked.
It’s over! It’s over! These words repeated in Shen Bao’er’s mind.
She was blankly pushed onto the carriage by her maid.
The scene of Li Yunhua’s cruel molestation replayed in her mind.
No! She can’t go back! She must find a way to leave! She can’t go into the city!
In the carriage sat only the maid and her, the coachman was an elderly man with slow movements.
Shen Bao’er was terrified at the idea of returning to the Prime Minister’s Mansion. With this in mind, she suddenly grabbed the teapot from the table and fiercely hit her maid over the head!
The maid didn’t react in time. Blood flowed from her head, and she fainted.
Shen Bao’er then pulled out the hairpin from her head. Before the coachman could react, she held the sharp end of the pin to his throat, "Take me away from the Imperial City, head south. If you don’t, I’ll kill you and then I’ll drive the carriage away myself."
Upon hearing her threat, the coachman’s hands began shaking with fear, "Don’t, don’t kill me! I’ll go, I’ll go!"
The coachman quickly turned the carriage towards a different direction, all the while thinking of what to do next.
Shen Bao’er was aware that the Prime Minister’s Mansion had property in many places.
This old coachman had served the Prime Minister’s Mansion for many years. So it was not surprising that he would be recognized by people associated with the Prime Minister’s Mansion in various places. If he were to seek help from others, it could spell trouble for her.
Having finally managed to escape, Shen Bao’er wouldn’t stand being captured and returned.
She had to get rid of this coachman as soon as possible!
As their carriage passed through a deserted forest, Shen Bao’er pressed the sharp end of her hairpin harder against his throat.
"Give me the reins!"
