Venerable Demon King & The Doting Immortal (QT)-Chapter 572: Rescue mission two
Chapter 572: Rescue mission two
Han Xin hesitated, about to ask something about it, but the man groaned beneath Xiang Yu’s boot.
"I don’t know anyone like that, but... there is a high secure area one floor down." Blood and saliva choked his voice as he forced the words out. "You might find them there."
Xiang Yu nodded, his expression satisfied. "Good."
Before the man could even plead for mercy, a sharp bang echoed through the corridor. Xiang Yu pulled the trigger, the shot piercing the air. "Consider that merciful," he said coldly as the lifeless body slumped beneath him.
Turning away, they walked towards the elevator at the end of the hallway. The weight of what had just happened hung heavy in the air. Han Xin glanced at Xiang Yu, concern flickering in his eyes. "Are you sure we will find him here?"
Xiang Yu scanned the keycard, a hopeful expression emerging. "I hope so."
As the elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, they stepped inside. The interior hummed quietly, and Han Xin felt the pulse of anticipation.
In a dark office nearby, a figure hunched behind a workbench in the lab. She peeked through the shadows, her eyes wide and fearful. Once the elevator doors closed, she snatched her laptop and began to type furiously. Her fingers danced across the keyboard, moving so swiftly it seemed like magic.
With a final press of a button, several doors clicked open in the basement below. The sound resonated like an invitation into the unknown. The woman stared at the screen, her heart racing, knowing the gravity of her actions. Time felt suspended as she waited for those beasts to tear those two people apart.
As Xiang Yu stood waiting for the elevator doors to glide open, a sudden surge of awareness prickled at the back of his mind. The Divine Emperor’s voice echoed sharply, urgent and foreboding.
"What’s in there?" Xiang Yu asked, his heart racing.
"A high-level mutated beast, a high-ranking zombie king, and a man injected with zombie serums," the Divine Emperor replied, each word laced with tension.
Xiang Yu’s brow furrowed. "What about Little Bai?"
The Divine Emperor’s response came with a warning. "He is there. Just be cautious when approaching him."
A smirk tugged at Xiang Yu’s lips as he turned to Han Xin. "Baby, be ready."
Without hesitation, Han Xin nodded, his expression shifting into one of focused determination. He trusted Xiang Yu completely, not questioning his words.
Just then, a low scratching noise echoed in the confined space of the elevator. The claws clawed at the metal door, ripping into it with a terrifying strength. The sound was guttural, primal. It was like a warning of the terror that lurked on the other side.
"Get ready," Xiang Yu murmured, adrenaline coursing through his veins. As the scratching grew more frantic, the doors trembled against the impending threat. The air thickened with tension, and they braced for what might come spilling through that thin barrier.
Adrenaline flooded Han Xin’s veins. He felt the familiar surge of energy licking like flames at the back of his mind. Xiang Yu clenched his fists, his muscles taut, as they both awakened their latent powers, their bodies tingling with the anticipation of battle.
Suddenly, the elevator doors exploded outward, torn apart by the claws of an abominable creature, a high-level mutant beast. Its sleek body glistened, dripping with a mixture of slime and rust-coloured blood, its eyes bursting with primal fury.
But before it could lunge, Han Xin acted; an invisible force emanated from him, crashing into the beast, sending it sprawling against the walls of the dimly lit basement.
In the chaotic tangle of limbs, another confrontation was taking place in the background. An unhinged man, veins pulsing with the raw energy of the zombie serum, was fighting with the zombie king.
Chaos reigned as the mutated man with deformed limbs and the zombie king twisted in a fight for dominance, but their fight was interrupted when a mutated beast flew in their direction causing them to collide with the wall with a loud bang. The three creatures let go of their feud and joined voices to attack the new targets.
With swift, formidable elegance, Xiang Yu lunged at the high-level mutated beast, sinking his powerful grip into its jaw. With a fierce tug, he tore its mouth open, the creature shrieking in agony as blood sprayed like a crimson fountain around them.
While Xiang Yu grappled with the mutant beast, Han Xin turned his focus to the man infused with the zombie serum.
With a surge of will, he conjured an explosion of energy that erupted from his palm, obliterating the aggressor in a blinding flash of raw force. The man’s guts and blood splattered everywhere his body having exploded to bits.
The duo’s attention suddenly snapped to the final threat, the zombie king. Its grotesque parody of human form, moaned as it shuffled toward them.
But before they could strike, it froze, caught in a web of invisible force, as if time itself had conspired against it. Its screech ripped through the air, a primordial sound, shaking the very ground beneath their feet.
Then came the horrifying sight the zombie’s body began to convulse violently, as something unseen grabbed hold of it.
The zombie’s frail skin shriveled like parchment in a fire, as an invisible force seemingly siphoned away its very essence. Its limbs bent unnaturally, curling. And with a bang the corpse fell to the ground leaving the room in an eerie silence.
After some time Xiang Yu cautiously approached the threshold of the last cell door, its heavy frame slightly ajar. With a deep breath, he stepped forward, forcing himself over the corpses strewn across the cold floor, each lifeless body a reminder of the horrors contained within these walls. He sensed Han Xin’s footsteps behind him and raised a hand, gesturing for him to stay back.
"Be careful," Han Xin cautioned, his voice laced with anxiety. He could feel the power emanating from the cell, and it made his skin crawl. The air was thick with danger.
