Chapter 74: Demir

Chapter Seventy-Four

Matilda was first to see Asli who looked angrier than she had ever seen. Her bag dropped from her fingers and landed with a gentle thump at the entrance.

She barely looked at it, while her strides were swift and light as she walked past Matilda. Her attention was fixed on the stairs as if she had not noticed her at all.

"You are back so soon! These warrior genes are some crazy advantages. How is it that you took just two days to heal?" Matilda’s usual chatty self was running after her from the door.

’Though, you are still limping.’ Asli had prepared herself to hear that because she knew she wasn’t walking well. But Matilda said nothing about it. This implied she was doing a good job of disguising it. She didn’t care anymore. In any case, it was unlikely to happen again. She was done with Ahmet.

"Good to see you back," Ruth joined, ignoring her angry face.

"Nobody should enter my room unless it’s urgent." She ordered, knowing Matilda would do that if she didn’t warn them.

She walked past them and banged her door. Who did Ahmet think he was? He pointed a gun at her. He yelled at her. At her.

Who did he think he was? No, who the hell did he think she was? Whether they shared a bed or not, she was still Asli.

’Asli would’ve stolen the shipment. She would have done that.’ a tiny voice reminded her.

She paced the room. ’Asli wouldn’t have slept with Ahmet. Asli wouldn’t have smiled thinking about him and his stupid texts,’ the voice wouldn’t stop chastising her.

She needed to calm herself. She needed to calm her thoughts.

After taking her bath, she did not know when she fell asleep but a loud knock sounded on her door and she groaned while she woke up.

"Mr. Marco is requesting to see you." she heard and immediately jumped out of bed as if she were caught stealing.

She hurriedly left for his library but before she could get there, a faint scent filled her nostrils. She knew the scent so well and she knew who it belonged to.

Demir.

A smile formed on her lips like a little girl. She looked around and saw him hiding behind the nearby tree.

When he noticed she had caught him, he came out, laughing.

"You still have strong senses, Asli." He joked and praised at the same time.

"Yeah, and you haven’t stopped playing these games, Demir." She said back to him with a loving smile on her face.

"Still killing like a crazy woman, aren’t you?" He added and she rolled her eyes.

"How did you know I was almost here?" She asked while pointing at the tree.

"Call it a hunch... I told them not to tell you I was here. I am sure they used my uncle for you to get here in less than ten minutes. I have been hiding there since I sent for you." He told her with a smile.

"Then it’s not a hunch, is it?" She teased. That unfaltering smile. That smile that had always made her heart skip a beat. Demir was handsome. He was tall and well-built even from a young age. Not forgetting how brutal he was too.

He was Marco’s favorite nephew and everyone knew he was going to inherit his empire.

Whenever Marco punished Asli to stay all night to train, he made sure to be there with her, either practicing as well or being chatty.

He was six years older than she was and also her senior in school. He helped her with her homework. And was with her during breaks. If not for him, she would have been all alone in school.

Until he was sent abroad to operate.

He probably met new friends. They used to talk over the phone till they got too busy, the only means they could catch up with each other was message alerts and notifications once a week. Then, it became once a month.

But now, he was here... in the flesh and looking ever dashing.

"Are you here for a visit?" Which he never did after his departure. If not for the messages he sent sometimes, she would have thought he was no more.

"You could say that. You know I am overseeing all our homes abroad. It’s a huge responsibility, Asli." He mentioned and she nodded.

She remembered he had objected when they booked his plane tickets and briefed him on his new life at the time he was told.

He almost killed the lawyer for telling him it was his father’s Will. Luckily, the lawyer was sent to the hospital on time.

Demir did not like that they were telling him what to do. ’You are relocating. Before you can claim your inheritance, you need to prove yourself.’

Only that was written in his father’s Will. Marco had to tie him to a chair and talk to him. He was his favorite among his brothers’ sons.

Everyone loved Demir. He was different. He cared for those around him. His absence was felt for a few years but they survived. But here he was, about to remind them again with his gorgeous smile. freewёbnoνel.com

"One thing never changes, you still use that loud perfume."

"Call it my signature scent. Smell me and know you are either in trouble or in luck."

"Brutal."

"I call it perfection." He corrected and they both ended up laughing. "Matilda looks big now. Hope she is doing great with the guns too."

Asli’s smile vanished immediately. She had fought for her not to end up like her. Though she loved who she was.

She shook her head and he quickly asked, "Arh, she prefers the knives. She must be a fast runner then."

"She’s living a normal life." She told him.

"Bullshit! She has to defend herself." Demir couldn’t believe what Asli was telling him.

"She has me." She whispered but she knew he heard her.

"And you have me." Demir also said with a smile.

A little smile pulled at his lips as he watched her, his gaze lingering on her every move. He tucked his hands into his pockets, his fingers curling against the fabric, as if to prevent himself from reaching out... from touching her.

Asli knew that. For some reason she knew Demir liked her. Her adoptive father had blamed her for his rebellious act when he refused to follow his father’s Will.

’You are the reason Demir doesn’t want to go. Whatever is going on between you two, just know you are cousins and he needs to be trained for a bigger role. Don’t hold him back.’ Marco had been furious.

And while she was leaving his library, she heard him telling one of his brothers Demir said he was in love with her. They both laughed and asked if they knew what that was.

They believed love was a trait tht weakened a warrior. They believed it would weaken Demir. Now tht she thought about it, she was sure that was the reason they took him aware from her.

Did Demir know she knew? Did he also know she had once liked him?
