Losing his parents when he was of an early age, he learned to rely solely on himself.

He has no relatives, no real family, and certainly nobody to depend on.

Back then, his foster family was no more than strangers, and opening up to them was hard.

So all he had was himself, and that made him strong, translating well when he came to the age—where he first applied to be in the military. For the longest time, he carried himself in such a demeanor, unbreakable, and that has two effects on people.

Be it intimidated or find him dependable.

Now, when he's crowned Emperor, everyone is relying on him

Rex was the backbone of the empire and his new family, the rock against the tidal wave.

No matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't break, or everyone would break.

It's the responsibility of a leader, or in his case, the responsibility of the Alpha of the pack.

Even in comparison to the other packs he had seen, their Alphas are also the same, strong, responsible, and unbreakable. So it was the same for others, this burden he was carrying— wasn't unique to him.

Or at least, he never considered it unique to him.

Many others who were in the same trench didn't break or cry until the end of their lives.

So Rex would also be the same.

He's going to remain strong until the bitter end.

"Maybe... if I'm given a brief minute like I was given—before the System came to rescue me," Rex smiled, raising his hand to blot out what little light that came from the dark sky above. "I can let it out then, all of it. Until then…"

Like a robot, Rex's face returned to stoic, his emotions suppressed.

He has things that need to be done.

Rex sucked in a deep breath and stood up, turning to face the Forsaken Tower behind him.

Compared to the rewards from the System, this was the real prize.

He wasn't expecting the tower itself to be the prize he wanted, but he wasn't complaining.

"Now, let's see if it's still salvageable after what she did." He mumbled and headed inside.

Since the top was utterly destroyed, as expected—even the guardian towers were down—there was no more protection for the main tower. But Rex was still hopeful since the air still changed when he walked past the gate entrance.

Even if the tower was broken, as long as it's not too bad, the System could fix it.

Of course, the System probably has something to rebuild the tower from scratch.

As long as Rex wanted it, there would be a price.

But the problem was still the gold, that kind of thing is usually very expensive.

Like earlier, he traced down the stairs and headed for the fifth floor.

Once he was there, he turned the lever and opened the ceiling to access the upper floors.

Seeing the rows of coffins on the wall—with corpses neatly placed inside them, Rex was still blown away even though this was his second time seeing this scene, "No matter how much I have seen this interior, it will always take my breath away. A wall of coffins..."

However, unlike the first time, he knew what these coffins were used for.

The Singing Lady has been preserving them in the coffins to amplify—the concentration of life energy inside the tower. It was a part of the tower's requirement to be activated. Based on the System—those ancestors of the Mahkam Ruin would sacrifice the weaker to bolster the stronger.

It was done during an emergency, such as when they were being attacked.

So it wasn't surprising.

Once the sacrifices were made and the tower was activated, the tower would be locked from the outside, and the Time Echo would then be activated. Anyone inside could harness the life energy and train at an accelerated pace.

Rex didn't know exactly how fast, but he would find out once he activated the tower.

He was planning to do that from the moment he knew what this tower was for.

"After I exhausted my resources and increased my strength as high as I could, I would step out and attend the Nameless Dragon Arena," Rex mumbled as he made his way to the top floor, feeling weaker and weaker by the second. "I hope the Time Echo would be effective, but I'd take anything at this point."

Reaching the top floor was a struggle.

Rex was suffering from the Invincible II item's side effect, and it wouldn't be long before he wouldn't be able to move his body for a bit. It wasn't a particularly harsh side effect, but in his line of work, when anyone could come and attack at any time.

It was still dangerous.

But then again, it should be safe inside the tower for now.

Kei Xun wouldn't be bothering him soon after seeing the invincible II item's power.

In her view, he was hiding his strength—or had an artifact that could propel him to the very peak, so she would be approaching him more carefully in the future. Not to mention, letting Viora stay by him, this time, showed that he still has that item.

At least for now, he was sure she was shaken by that display.

He, too, would be shocked if someone of a fifth rank suddenly reached the eleventh rank.

Looking around the top floor, he found that the edges were completely torn apart.

It seemed Kei Xun's power gripped the edge and peeled it like an orange.

Even the keyhole and the key from earlier were still intact, none were damaged at all.

Pausing for a second to breathe, Rex then approached the keyhole before scanning it with the System.

"System, is the Time Echo or the tower itself ruined?" He asked.

<Analyzing…>

<No, the top floor might need to be repaired for the tower's lockdown when it was activated, but the important structures are still working. As for the Time Echo, it is completely fine as it is engraved deep within the tower's base.>

Upon reading the notification, Rex immediately sighed in relief.

It could still work.

"Now, all I need is for the array in the Mahkam Ruin to be activated," Rex mumbled tiredly.

But that required him to talk with Grant, and he was too tired now for that.

In a non-combat situation, there was no adrenaline, and he couldn't keep moving like he did earlier.

Just then, however, a figure flew and landed near him—Viora.

"It's done. I healed Linthia, but there's nothing I can do about her Soul Artifact," She said with regret, knowing that it was the Divine Saintess who did that to Linthia. "But I made sure to heal her properly. I even put her to sleep to quicken her recovery."

"I know you can't do anything about that," Rex answered before turning to the person beside Viora.

Viora also brought April here for some reason.

Earlier, Rex saw her in a state of shock and thought she would leave like the other heirs.

"Staying with me is a stupid decision, you do realize that, right?" Rex suddenly said.

Upon hearing this, April's body stiffened.

Compared to the other heirs who made a responsible decision, to leave when things seemed too bad for comfort, she chose to stay behind and believed in Rex. As a result, she almost lost her life. Had Kei Xun not known that Linthia was close with Rex, she could've picked her next.

And if that happened, she would lose her Soul Artifact like Linthia did.

But unlike Linthia, she was of royalty.

Losing her Soul Artifact meant being exiled from the house.

No matter her standing previously, the house doesn't need a weak aristocrat, and would abandon her.

Or worse, she might be chosen first and get killed like Crimoria.

She was lucky to only get trauma from all of this.

Despite all that, her expression hardened, and she clenched her fists with resolve, "Even so, I'm still the lady of this land. Born of noble blood, it is my duty to stand for the Mahkam Ruin. I cannot possibly leave while you, someone unrelated, fight. I must fight—for the principle of it."

"Also, you're my teacher," Her voice turned softer but resolute. "For what it's worth, I want to fight."

Rex stared at her with a vacant gaze before he cracked a light smile.

"The House of Aurelius would have a good lady in the future," He praised as he turned to Viora. "You should let the Marquess know what she said—and did today. I'm sure he'll be pleased. Even I, as an Emperor, would be pleased if one of my subjects were like her."

"I suppose I must, she's quite a daring lady." Viora covered her mouth and chuckled.

Even from the start, she already knew April was talented.

But to also have a golden heart, she's certainly going to be someone great.

April, on the other hand, flushed.

It wasn't her intention to gain recognition from this.

However, a question crept into her mind, "Emperor? What do you mean, Emperor?"

Upon hearing this, Rex cleared his throat to change the subject.

"Viora, bring Linthia here, and then go meet Grant," Rex instructed—as he sat down, resting his weary body. "Find the array in the ruin and use the key Grant has to activate it. I want to use the tower, that's the least I can get for what I've done here. I'm sure Grant wouldn't mind."

"Don't forget to tell Grant to bring some of the stronger warriors here, too." He added.

"Are you going to use it?" Viora mumbled as she looked down with a frown.

She recalled the corpses inside the tower, displayed in coffins.

"Yes," Rex answered—decisively. "All of them are dead already, there is no saving them. They have already become a part of the tower, and leaving them there would only be disrespectful to them. So I'm going to use the tower and dissolve the corpses."

Viora sighed.

It was a bad ending for them, but at least with this, their souls would rest in peace.

"I understand," She nodded. "I'll go tell Grant."

"April, stay here," Rex instructed as he lay on the ground. "You should use this opportunity too."

Even though April didn't know what the tower was for, she trusted Rex enough to know that this would be beneficial for her. Since the Time Echo would be activated, along with the tower, April would also age faster here, which means she would grow stronger faster.

She didn't have an Imbalanced-type Spirit Veins, but she would still benefit from this.

Rather, this tower was exactly for someone like her.

Rex and those who have an Imbalanced-type Spiritual Veins were only the exceptions, the anomalies.

As his body relaxed, his mind began to drowse.

"April…" He mumbled as he closed his eyes. "Wake me up when the tower is activated."

"Okay, you deserved some rest, Lord Rex." April answered.

Just like that, Rex passed out, making use of what little time he had to rest before training again.

Meanwhile, back in the High Cathedral of Noracci.

Alana landed back in the grand hall with sweat covering her entire body.

In the duration of her possession by Kei Xun, she was still awake inside, only her body was being taken over, not her mind. She saw what had happened down there, the new Scion was somehow capable of reaching the realm of high-class power.

Capable of even matching Kei Xun and even the Spirit Emperor.

"Divine Saintess, how is that possible?" Alana exclaimed through rough breaths—before she looked down at her body that was almost melted from being in Rex's presence. "That was a Primordial Radix, and his three Absolute Laws are complete! He wouldn't be able to achieve that without achieving a higher divinity, but that should be impossible!"

"He must be lying! He's not in this for one year!" She continued exasperatedly.

No, shot, Rex was only a Scion for a year.

He must be staying in the Mortal Realm to get stronger without interruptions.

Kei Xun, who was now sitting on the stairs to the altar, was also frowning in contemplation.

'Is he lying? No, I have never seen—or felt him before,' She shook her head, dismissing the possibility that he might be lying about his time being a Scion. 'All of his conditions aligned with him being new. So this, this power must be from an item.'

'But… there's only so much an item could provide. That's simply impossible,' She frowned harder.

Just then, before she realized it, her entire sanctuary quaked.
