The Evolution of Genius: Every Night, I Get Smarter!-Chapter 98: Invitation
Chapter 98: Invitation
After enjoying coffee and indulging in some delightful sweets, including a surprise cake that Oliv had bought on the way, we retreated to our room for a relaxing evening.
Oliv and I made ourselves comfortable, and she suggested, "How about Netflix?"
I grinned. "Sounds good."
We scrolled through the options, finally settling on a show we both enjoyed.
We laughed, we made comments, and we both enjoyed just being together in our own place while the episodes played. The cake was a nice touch.
The evening with Oliv was both enjoyable and relaxing. But tomorrow was Friday. Oliv went to bed early because she had Friday classes.
It was late at night. I left the comfort of our shared space and went to the office.
I sat down in front of the computer screen and dug into research papers on superconductors.
I needed to learn more and not allow the side effects to take me by surprise.
First, I aimed to be aware of the latest advancements and findings.
Recent research has unveiled exotic superconductors that defy traditional expectations.
Scientists employ advanced experimental techniques, such as angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and tunneling spectroscopy, to probe the electronic structure and behavior of materials.
They uncovered evidence of unexpected interactions between electrons in high-temperature superconductors.
Some high-temperature superconductors have verified superconductivity at 125K or -234 Fahrenheit, but there have been reports of superconductivity at 240K or -27 Fahrenheit.
Furthermore, the special characteristics of topological materials can enable Majorana fermions, particles that could be used as building blocks for durable quantum bits, or qubits.
Developments in topological superconductors have opened up new avenues for quantum computing.
As I kept reading about superconductors, I found out about different chemicals used in the research. Some important ones are YBCO, BSCCO, and iron-based superconductors like LaFeAsO.
After spending a lot of time learning, I fell on the desk and took a quick nap.
In the Dreamland, I looked at the sky through the gap on the right side, and I saw around 50 blue comets in the sky.
It made me think about what the Ulthars and Zytherians might be up to.
The fact that the nets, other than my own cluster’s, remained pure white suggested that they stayed in their cluster focused on something.
Maybe they were just looking for the quickest way to destroy each other.
I woke up to find it was already morning. As I stepped out of my room, I noticed Oliv was not around.
I went to my father and asked, "Did Oliv leave without saying goodbye?"
He replied, "Well, she wanted to, but she checked in on your room, saw you were still asleep, and didn’t want to wake you up."
I nodded in understanding, saying, "Okay, I’ll head out too."
My father acknowledged with a nod, and I quickly washed up, enjoying the cool sensation of water on my face.
After changing into a fresh set of clothes, I made my way to the wardrobe. Stepping through it, I arrived in Coelus.
I entered the bubble highway, and in the buble, which for some reason always moved wherever the person riding it wanted, I made my way down one level and then towards the University of Excellence.
As I arrived, right behind me, I saw another bubble drifting in onto the floor, and it turned out to be Milena.
She must have loved extremely short tights, because she wore another pair of those, just black in color this time, with a tight red t-shirt on and her hair in a bun.
I approached her as soon as she came in, and she spoke first, "Hey. Max..."
I answered with, "Hello, Milena." and as we went towards the classroom I asked, "By the way. On which level of this city do you live?"
She said, "Oh! Just a couple levels down!"
As she said this, I realised something, "Hmm, now that I think about it I don’t even know how many levels there are..."
She smirked at me and said, "Well, it’s Eve day today. So maybe I can show you around here later. Hmm? What do you think about that?"
I asked, "Eve day?"
She nodded her head, saying, "Yeah. Eve day. The day before a free day. We have three of those every 10 days."
Right, now that I think about it, they probably don’t have a 7-day week system here.
As we approached the classroom, I remarked, "I will think about that."
Milena simply replied, "Sure."
We entered, finding Mentor Alfredo and the ever-serious Eric in his grey clothing already present, waiting for us.
Mentor Alfredo welcomed us, saying, "Great! You’re here. Sit down. We are going to start."
Milena and I took our seats.
Mentor Alfredo then began the session, stating, "I’m going to begin explaining to you how exactly those vibrations form the matter that we see with our own eyes."
Once again, a holographic metal string appeared. This time, when Mentor pulled and released it, visible waves materialized in the air.
"Alright, let’s get into how the vibrations from higher dimensions translate into the matter we perceive."
Mentor Alfredo began, his tone filled with enthusiasm. "It all starts with the tension of the strings. The tension significantly influences how these strings vibrate. Simply put, higher tension results in higher-energy vibrations."
He paced in front of the holographic string. "This allows the strings to vibrate in different modes, and each mode corresponds to a different particle."
"These basic modes," Mentor Alfredo explained, "are the vibrational modes or oscillations of the string. These modes, in turn, determine the properties of the resulting particle, such as its mass and charge."
He continued to illustrate how the vibrations, bouncing off and influencing one another, were intricately connected to form atoms.
The vibrations themselves occurred on an incredibly minute scale, approaching what one might describe as infinity in terms of quantity and complexity.
Finally, Mentor Alfredo said, "Additionally, there’s one other idea. The branes. Think of branes as multi-dimensional objects. We consider our universe as a brane, with three dimensions—length, width, and height—floating in a higher-dimensional space-time."
As Mentor Alfredo wrapped up the day’s lesson, Eric hurriedly approached him with questions.
Meanwhile, Milena turned to me and asked, "So. Are you going with me this evening or no?"
I responded, "Okay, but I will come with my girlfriend. Is that okay?"
She replied, "Oh well, if you prefer."
I then asked, "What about Eric?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Oh! He definitely wouldn’t be interested."
Milena then suggested, "Just make sure that your girlfriend dresses appropriately for the evening. You know... like how I dress. And you too, get yourself a nice black shirt and tight black shorts."
Confused I asked, "Tight black shorts? Who wears that? I don’t even have any."
She responded, "Well then. I guess we will go shopping first!"
"I don’t have any money that I can use here."
"Eh. Don’t worry about that." She reassured me.
In that moment Mentor Alfredo called from the door, "You should go; I need to close the classroom."
We stood up, and I turned to Milena, "Where should we meet up? I need to go back home first and wait for Oliv to come back."
"We can meet here on the same floor. Be here in 5 hours, what about that?"
"Right, how long is the day here?"
"It’s 25 hours."
"Ok. I don’t know if the hours are the same length as where I come from, though."
"Hours are the same on every planet in this universe. You don’t even know about that?"
"I see. Okay then. See you."
After the conversation, I left in the bubble and made my way back to Boston.
When I arrived, my parents were sitting in front of the TV, engrossed in whatever they were watching. I figured they might be addicted to it. A
As they heard my footsteps, my father turned around and, upon seeing me, exclaimed, "Max! You’re finally back. There have been some suspicious things happening."
Entering the open kitchen, I asked, "What kind of things?" as I poured myself a cup of coffee.
My father began to share the unsettling news, "A plane crashed with 600 people on board."
"Jesus! How did it happen?"
He explained that, according to the news on TV, a pilot had locked himself inside the cabin using the antiterrorist code, preventing the other pilot from entering.
He then deliberately pointed the plane downward, causing it to plummet into the sea.
My mind raced with thoughts.
I knew that making the world completely safe again was an unattainable goal. So many things needed to change, and the tragedy highlighted that fact.
The question that lingered was why. Why would they take the lives of innocent people? Just to distract me?
I immersed myself in learning for a couple of hours until Oliv arrived.
As soon as she walked in, I welcomed her with a hug and said, "We have an invitation for a meeting in Coelus. You’re going with me, Oliv. Right? Please..."
She smiled warmly and replied, "Ok!" Then, with a thoughtful expression, she added, "What about Veronica? I kind of miss her."
