Chapter 315: Liviera and Noreen (2)

The royal guards had no choice but to relent, seeing that the mother empress was so determined. However, they continued to stay alert and were prepared for anything unexpected that might happen.

Their guns were pointing at the door, ready to shoot at any time. Levin also didn’t persuade Liviera anymore; it pained him, though, that all of them were alert to the potential danger his mother could cause.

Levin only stood there, holding a gun, but unlike the others, he didn’t point it at the door. He just couldn’t do it. As expected, his resolve wasn’t firm when the one he loved was involved.

He wondered why the emperor assigned him to this mission in the first place?

No matter what Levin thought, this wouldn’t change Liviera’s decision, as he slowly opened the door. Contrary to everyone and his expectations, he was extremely calm at this moment, to the point that it seemed abnormal.

Liviera thought that he would immediately tremble with anger after arriving, just like how his hand was shaking at the ship; perhaps he might also lose control of his emotions and charge without thinking.

However, when he was already here, he fell into a strange state of calmness instead. Perhaps his reconciliation with his son affected his emotions more than he thought.

When the door was completely opened, the royal guards’ stance became combat-ready, but there wasn’t any ambush or gunfire; they were only greeted by silence.

What was inside was a clean and elegant room; the interior was inspired by the sea, reminding them that they were on an island. Leviera’s eyes roamed before landing in one position. Someone was sitting at one of the seats at a table close to the closed balcony.

She was leisurely leaning into it as she sipped on a wine glass. If one wasn’t knowledgeable enough, one might have thought that the woman was normally doing her thing in her leisure time.

If only there weren’t any bloodbaths outside of this seemingly peaceful room.

Liviera stepped inside, and without hearing any of the royal guards’ complaints, he closed the door. He didn’t take another step and only watched the leisurely woman.

It was the woman he longed to kill with his own hands. And yet, now that she was in front of him, while the same seething rage persisted in his heart, he could already control it.

However, his hand still visibly shook, just like his lips quivered.

Slowly, the woman seemed to notice him and looked in Liviera’s direction. There was a playful glint in her eyes, just like it always has been.

It was completely different from Liviera’s memories of her.

"Noreen..." Liviera was so surprised by himself that he managed to call her with a calm tone, not attacking or shouting at her in an instant.

"Dear brother-in-law," Noreen called as she grinned. She raised her wine glass as though inviting Liviera to drink. "I knew you’d come."

There wasn’t any remorse in her tone or expression; it was a complete calmness, or perhaps there was also some anticipation and relief in them.

Liviera slowly took a step until he approached the table, a few steps away from Noreen.

Noreen didn’t move in her position, as if already accepting her fate.

"Are you here to punish me, brother–in–law?" She put down the wine glass and asked calmly.

Liviera didn’t talk for a moment; he took a deep and heavy breath before he sat opposite Noreen. His eyes stared intently at Noreen; there was raw hatred in them.

He resented this woman the moment he found out that she was the one who killed his husband. Liviera wanted to even offer her life in front of his husband’s tomb and kill himself afterward.

It was his plan... it was his desired end.

Strangely enough, Liviera hated her the same, but this desire seemed not as strong as before. What was the reason? It was as though it gave her a strange sense of deja vu.

"Are you here to kill me?" Noreen asked again after Liviera didn’t respond. Her tone was devoid of any emotion; it was empty.

Liviera blinked and shook the strange emotions inside of him.

"I want to," Liviera spoke for the first time as he entered this room. "I longed to see the culprit’s blood in my hands." He answered honestly; these were his real thoughts.

Insanity brought him all sorts of thoughts, but longing and pain were what brought him this kind of insanity.

When has this pain been alleviated? Was it because of his son? Liviera chuckled without any humor. There was no use in questioning himself.

"But I won’t kill you." Liviera saw a change in Noreen’s expression for the first time with what he said. Before she could say something, he continued.

His tone was calm, but the unconcealed hostility and resentment were evident in his words.

"Killing you is not enough, Noreen. Just like you, I’m a victim. The difference between us is that... You’re a willing victim," Liviera had realized at this point.

Noreen was also a victim. At some point, their relationship was so good that Liviera also trusted Noreen with his life. He never once suspected Noreen.

In his memory, Noreen wasn’t like this. He never knew when she changed. However, he knew that it wasn’t the real her. At least, her husband had the greater blame for what happened to her.

"You succumbed to your desire," Liviera continued, ignoring the slowly changing expression of the once-calm princess. "You chose this. And now, you want me to end your suffering? Hah." Liviera chuckled again with a bit of humor but unfiltered hatred.

She was a victim, but a willing one. Noreen wasn’t dumb. She could notice the difference in herself the moment she changed. However, she never did anything. She let her husband poison her mind and manipulate her.

No... Liviera denied the first, though. Noreen embraced this stupidity. Was it because of love? At this point, Liviera couldn’t blame her for that.

"You killed your brother." Liviera’s voice shook at this, but he steadily completed it without any hiccups. The corners of his eyes heated up, and he spat out more intensely. "You’re a disgrace to the royal family, Noreen. No... You’ve failed everyone and also yourself."

"I won’t kill you, because from this moment on, you will live with this disgrace in your name all your life. And no, I won’t let you kill yourself either."

The tears already silently streamed down Liviera’s cheeks as he began to say the words as though they were a life verdict. Like him, Noreen’s hands were also shaking, and she was also crying.

It was as though every word Liviera uttered was stabbing her heart.

Liviera then continued with the most venomous tone he could utter. "And I’ll let you witness it. Witness the demise of your beloved, Noreen."

Noreen had loved a demon, and she was now haunted by that same love.
