Chapter 306: Ring

As Arren always said, he wasn’t particular about anything, not even jewelry. Obviously, he could buy any expensive ones with his money, but they weren’t all that necessary to him. There was even a higher chance of Arren spending millions on a lavish dinner.

However, as he looked at the crown with great significance in front of him, Arren could never stay indifferent to it. In fact, no one could. This crown... or the position it conveyed was coveted by many, Arren was aware that countless omegas were wishing for the place he was in.

Holding the key, Arren swallowed some saliva; his throat was drying up. While he expected this, the moment that it was already here, he still couldn’t help but feel that it was so surreal.

Right. It was all real. The crown seemed brighter in his eyes.

As Arren couldn’t utter a word, Spade decided to start speaking, giving his omega time to properly process what was happening.

The weight of this crown was far beyond its value; lying deeper was also a heavier responsibility and burden.

Spade reached out to Arren’s hand, which was holding the glimmering key. Now, both of their hands were wrapped around each other while facing each other. The crown was next to them.

"Arren..." he called softly, trying to ease Arren’s emotion. The omega lifted his head and looked up to him, ready to listen to what he had to say. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Spade exhaled, and seeing that both of their emotions were linked together with some nervousness in them, Arren finally smiled, and Spade was immediately affected, his lips curled up.

"My proposal is a bit... No, it is too sudden. I know." Spade started, and Arren couldn’t help but laugh and nod.

He rarely sees Spade act like this, so Arren is enjoying this. While sometimes Spade could act sappy and say some mushy things, that was too rare, and Arren loved every second of it.

And now, with a hint of nervousness, Spade was so cute. This alleviated the overwhelming emotions inside his heart after seeing the crown. Arren didn’t intervene, though, and continued to listen to his alpha.

Spade’s smile broadened after seeing Arren laugh at him. Their smiles were plastered on their lips as they continued. If anyone could see them at this moment, they would really think they looked so stupid, but for Arren and Spade, this was already their definition of romantic speech.

"I..." Spade trailed off, biting his lips from smiling too much and suppressing himself from kissing that captivating smile on Arren’s lips.

Clearing his throat, Spade squeezed Arren’s hand, which was holding the key.

"I have a plan to propose, and this key is part of it," Spade revealed and slowly continued while staring into Arren’s eyes intently. "I’ve always been serious about you, and I know that I want this relationship to last for the rest of our lives. Arren, even if I don’t remember what we’ve been through, marrying you has always been a part of my plan.

"But I admit... My approach to this matter will not be as straightforward as it is today if I have never recalled the past."

This time, Arren couldn’t help but intervene, laughing.

"You’ve always been a turtle, Spade." He remembered how he needed to decide on them; otherwise, it would be a long time before they became together at Spade’s pace.

The alpha was just like that. Arren had always known that Spade was so careful, and the process was so important for him, especially on matters related to Arren.

Perhaps that was how Spade showed his love. Although it was a bit frustrating since Arren was the complete opposite, he was more expressive than he was.

Spade admitted it and nodded.

"I’m aware of that about me. My patience... has always been limitless when it comes to you. But... My proposal is never spur-of-the-moment. I want you to know that."

Arren smiled. "Of course, I didn’t doubt it one bit." He still felt soft from Spade clarifying this, showing how he placed importance on Arren’s feelings and thoughts. "So... What was your proposal plan, then?"

He was also curious about it.

"This key..." Spade spoke, smiling. "... is a key, but also not really a key."

Confusion immediately filled Arren’s face as he processed that. What?

Spade chuckled and didn’t reveal what that meant, but instead guided Arren on something.

"Here, let me show you," he said softly, and under Arren’s gaze, he guided Arren’s hand, which was holding the key to the crown. Arren became immersed in it, not wanting to miss anything.

The crown continued to glisten, mesmerizing anyone who saw it.

Spade’s hand stopped, just at one point where a considerable gap could be discerned. Astonished, Arren stared at it and then shifted to Spade.

"Go on... insert the key," Spade urged, not helping Arren anymore as though it was only Arren who could do it.

With Spade’s urging gaze, Arren slowly inserted the luxurious key, his heart pounding with anticipation.

And the key perfectly fits into the gap on the crown, revealing that it was actually originally part of the crown in the first place.

Arren’s mouth parted from fascination. There weren’t any magical properties to it or something truly game-changing, but the fact that the key he thought was useless was actually a part of the empress’ crown was what made it more astounding for him.

After the part that resembled a key was merged once more in the crown, as if a mechanism were triggered. The crown moved upwards slightly, and a compartment was shown beneath its case.

Before Arren could think further about the small compartment, a loud bell echoed all over the palace. It continued for a few seconds before it went silent.

"Huh?" Arren was taken aback and looked at Spade, questioning him about what that was about.

Spade shrugged as though it were not that important and instead reached out to the compartment just below the crown.

Almost instantly, Arren forgot his questions about that bell, and his eyes could only focus on what was on Spade’s hand at this moment.

"A proposal is not complete without a ring." Spade tried to be calm in his tone, but he was shaking as he held the small box.

Arren covered his mouth with his hand. Seriously, he was actually fine without a ring, but now that it was already here, Arren also agreed with Spade.

A ring. It seemed it was indeed something he also wanted.

Silently, Spade took the ring and held it. His hand then reached out to Arren’s hand, which was also cold, just like his.

Spade’s eyes then stared straight into Arren’s teary eyes as he slipped the ring into Arren’s finger.

It fit so perfectly. And Arren couldn’t take his gaze off of it. An engagement ring from the one he loved.
