Chapter 72: Sunbathing Seeds and Honest Demons

As soon as he finished speaking, Illiya shot him a disapproving glance. He didn’t agree with Seoryun’s suggestion, but he also didn’t voice any objections.

The two demons widened their eyes, filled with disbelief. They genuinely had no idea such an approach was even possible.

Ke’Oth exclaimed, "Seoryun, you’re really smart! You mean we can do that?"

N’zall echoed the sentiment enthusiastically. "Yes! You’re so clever. His Majesty the Demon King once said that the humans on the continent are very intelligent. Seoryun, you really live up to that reputation!"

"The Demon King was absolutely right," both Ke’Oth and N’zall said in unison.

After all that back and forth, the conversation once again circled back to their beloved Demon King. Was this some kind of demon instinct?

Seoryun raised an eyebrow, a flash of confusion quickly passing through his eyes.

He honestly couldn’t tell if these two demons were genuinely complimenting him... or being sarcastic in some strange way.

Still, something about their tone felt odd.

With mixed feelings, Seoryun carefully continued, "Well, now that you have a solution, you don’t need to worry about finding suitable crops for the festival anymore. Who knows? Maybe the plants you bring will even win you praise from others."

Ke’Oth and N’zall exchanged a glance, as if silently asking each other’s opinion.

They both fell silent for a moment, seemingly evaluating the feasibility of Seoryun’s suggestion.

It didn’t take long before Ke’Oth and N’zall made their decision.

Seoryun watched with great interest, curious to see what the final outcome would be. Even he didn’t know whether these two demons could resist the temptation of such enormous benefits.

Illiya, too, was following the developments closely. He was quite curious about what decision the two demons would ultimately make.

If they ended up taking Seoryun’s suggestion and purchased plants just to pad their entry for the plant exhibition, then his goodwill toward the demon race might plummet into the negatives.

It wasn’t that he thought such behavior was inherently wrong. If someone could cleverly cut corners (in a positive sense) to complete a task, Illiya wouldn’t judge them negatively. On the contrary, he would admire their adaptability and quick thinking.

But the current situation was clearly different.

Illiya believed that if the Demon King had taken the initiative to hold a plant appreciation exhibition, it meant the king genuinely wished to change the current state of the demon race. If the lower-ranked demons could act so perfunctorily, then the upper echelon of the demon race likely wasn’t any better.

In that case, the Demon King would be nothing more than a figurehead.

And that was the very last thing Illiya wanted to see.

Fortunately, Ke’Oth and N’zall did not let Illiya’s quiet expectations down.

After considering it for a while, Ke’Oth spoke up hesitantly, "Seoryun, your suggestion is very good. It would help us reach our goal quickly. Honestly, it’s probably the best solution for us, especially since I know my own limitations — whatever I try to plant ends up dying."

"But I still won’t buy plants just to pass them off as my own," Ke’Oth said, his eyes firming with determination as a slightly bashful smile appeared on his face. "I want to personally present a plant that I’ve grown myself to His Majesty the Demon King. I think... that’s what His Majesty really wants to see."

N’zall opened his mouth, but realized he didn’t have anything to add — Ke’Oth had already expressed everything he wanted to say. In the end, all he could do was nod furiously at his side in agreement.

"Even though I don’t know why His Majesty wants us to grow plants," Ke’Oth continued, pouring out everything in his heart, "I still want to give him the best thing I can offer. Even if I’m terrible at growing things, I’ll do my utmost to cultivate something worthy for His Majesty."

N’zall echoed sincerely, "What Ke’Oth said is exactly what I wanted to say."

Ke’Oth turned to Seoryun and thanked him sincerely, "Thank you for your suggestion, Seoryun. I know you meant well. But in the end, we still want to grow the plants ourselves. I’m sorry for wasting your kindness."

Seoryun shrugged helplessly, clearly not taking it to heart at all.

With a casual wave of his hand, he replied, "No need to apologize. My suggestion was probably the most inappropriate one here. If anything, I should be the one apologizing."

Ke’Oth and N’zall both laughed heartily, the brilliant smiles on their faces hard to ignore.

In that moment, Seoryun suddenly found that he couldn’t bring himself to dislike demons.

He began to doubt — how could the other races of the continent look at such demons and treat them as enemies, going so far as to agree to a war every fifty years?

It was honestly baffling.

Illiya found the demons’ answer both expected and unexpected.

His teacher had once told him that the demon race was a very interesting people — not to trust everything written in books. After all, those records were written by members of other races, and who could say if they were really true? Only now did Illiya fully understand the meaning of his teacher’s words.

The demons truly were... Interesting.

Illiya cleared his throat twice, drawing the demons’ attention.

He pointed to the land beside them and said with a smile, "Stop talking about your Demon King. Do you still want to solve your plant problem? Honestly, I haven’t had breakfast yet."

Hearing that last part, the two demons immediately panicked and quickly apologized, "Sorry! We talked too much! We didn’t know Your Esteemed Elf hadn’t eaten yet!"

Ke’Oth hesitantly asked, "Why don’t you go have breakfast first, Your Esteemed Elf?"

Illiya shook his head, "No need, let’s take care of the problem at hand first. For an elf, dealing with plant issues should be quick."

"Even if I’m still inexperienced, I’m still an elf," Illiya emphasized. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

It was hard to tell whether Illiya was comforting himself or the demons.
