The Duke's Masked Wife 2: The Prince's Outcast Bride-Chapter 134: Speaking on wives (2)
Chapter 134: Speaking on wives (2)
"I want to continue my drink, with only Elijah bothering me. I suggest you leave my side," Tyrion said, anger quickly replacing his patience.
"Forgive me if my words were out of line-"
"They were very out of line not only to the husband of the woman you speak of, but to her brother. Walk away while it is still possible for you to do so," Tyrion advised Zane.
Zane smiled, revealing his pearly whites. "I am not afraid, Prince Tyrion. You forget where you stand. All kinds of indecent talk is said here, but unlike the women, we won’t gossip about what you say. It isn’t uncommon to speak of wives behind closed doors."
"Many of us have been curious about the twins," Zane said, gathering the attention of the other men present.
Zane knew the other men were thinking the same, but he was the only one who was bold enough to say out loud what everyone else had been saying in secret.
Surely Tyrion didn’t think that there weren’t others who wished to know what it was like to be with one of the twins or perhaps both, if Penelope was ever so generous.
"Give us a little something," Zane said, his words slightly slurred. "What is it like to be with Penelope Collins? Had I known running off was-"
Zane flinched, startled by Tyrion abruptly standing up to grab him.
Tyrion had been furious from the moment Zane opened his mouth, and gave Zane plenty of chances to walk away. Now, he was going to kill him.
Elijah looked away from where Tyrion dragged a foolish Zane. He took up Tyrion’s glass to drink what remained in it.
After having a long sip of the drink, Elijah stood up and walked to the window Zane was dangling out of. If Tyrion loosened his grip, Zane was bound to fall headfirst.
Zane was sober enough to fight back against Tyrion so he wouldn’t fall out the window.
All Zane could think now was that the prince had lost his mind, and he wondered why the other men weren’t moving fast to help him.
Elijah opened the window next to the window where Tyrion was forcing Zane out. He whistled after seeing the long drop to the garden.
"That’s going to kill him," said Elijah.
"That’s the intention. What were you saying?" Tyrion asked, holding Zane merely by a handful of his shirt.
Only Zane’s legs remained inside as his upper body was held out the window.
Zane laughed, but he believed Tyrion would be so crazy to let him fall.
"You were asking me a question. What was it?" Tyrion asked.
Zane didn’t respond since he was busy considering how much it would hurt when he fell.
"I would like to see him fall and create an opening to his head, but now is not the time for this. You know why it isn’t a good time to do this," Elijah said, grabbing Zane’s hand in case Tyrion let go. "You can do other things, but not this."
Tyrion knew what Elijah meant.
It was so much more than just ruining Penelope’s time at the ball. It was another reason for the court to bother him with. Tyrion had his family’s protection, but protection from the palace wasn’t the same anymore.
It would cause too much trouble for him to be seen killing anyone.
Tyrion reluctantly pulled Zane back inside.
"You," Zane started to speak, but he was silenced by Tyrion’s hand connecting with his jaw.
Tyrion couldn’t kill him, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t deliver a blow or two for Zane speaking so comfortably about his wife.
Tyrion didn’t care if the men present were so comfortable speaking about other men’s wives. They should never speak about Penelope.
Zane didn’t have a moment to register the pain forming at the side of his face as another blow was delivered just below his left eye.
It was here that the men stood to stop Tyrion, but Elijah blocked their way.
Zane was lucky that it was only Tyrion delivering a beating since it was still Elijah’s sister.
Penelope, being a married woman, did not change that she was his little sister.
Zane was going to be dealt with in due time, when there wouldn’t be anyone around to witness it.
Tyrion stopped after the fourth hit and looked at his knuckles. "Ask about my wife again, and it will be a knife to the heart. That goes for all of you."
"It is for speaking about any of my sisters," Elijah added.
Zane groaned, his cheek sore, and to his horror, one of his teeth felt shaky. He was a man loved by many women for his appearance. His work would be greatly affected by his smile, missing a tooth.
Zane stood up, wanting a fair fight with Tyrion. He had been a little drunk, which worked in Tyrion’s favour.
Zane spat blood onto the floor and laughed as he got over the pain. "You just made an enemy out of me, Prince Tyrion. Pretty little things like your wife are always curious about men. I would have been kind to go easy on her for your sake, but now I want more."
Tyrion discarded his plans and turned around to finish off Zane.
Men like Zane were no longer an issue, only when they were killed.
Zane prepared for a fight as Elijah and Tyrion came toward him, but his confidence wavered when he saw the giant by the door.
"Prince Tyrion!" Rafael called, rushing toward Tyrion. He grabbed Tyrion just as he punched Zane. "The king requires your attention. Both of you," he turned to Elijah.
Rafael didn’t have the slightest clue what caused the fight, but he knew it wasn’t good for both the prince and Elijah to be fighting. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Rafael was able to pry Tyrion away from Zane and stood between the two men. "You should return to the king’s side, Prince Tyrion. See that he gets there in one piece," he ordered Elijah. "If you do not move, I will drag you both out."
Elijah didn’t need to be told twice. Rafael was sometimes said to be the gentle giant, but Elijah knew the knight wasn’t gentle when he was angry.
Tyrion had enough for now, but he would see to it that Zane was dealt with soon.
Tyrion was the first to walk away, followed closely by Elijah.
Rafael remained to look at the man with the bruised face.
"Thank you for helping me," Zane said, groaning after he spoke. He was going to lose his tooth.
"I didn’t help you," Rafael said, turning around to leave.
Once Edgar and Tobias learned of the fight, Zane would have two of the kingdom’s most powerful men prying into his life. Rafael had only prolonged when Zane would be dealt with.
