The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard-Chapter 349
Chapter 349: 349
Old Yang, the policeman, was met with a fierce and brutal counterattack. He wasn’t Ye Tian’s match at all; the only outcome was the punch at the beginning. The next punch wasn’t landed on Ye Tian but was forcibly twisted onto the car door, resulting in a sharp pain in his fist followed by numbness. What happened next, a man who passed out couldn’t remember.
"Don’t even think about laying a hand on me unless you think your fists are faster than bullets."
The driver, a police officer, was quick. As Ye Tian was about to strike him, the dark muzzle of a gun was already pointed at him.
The Volkswagen police car came to a stop. Ye Tian felt the jolting; this was definitely not the city area. He had no idea where exactly they were. In the month since he arrived in Beiping, he had done nothing but wander aimlessly through several alleys and hadn’t even been to Tian’an Men Square.
The driver turned around and looked at him, his tone somber, "The higher-ups only said you were tough, but I didn’t expect you to be this tough. Such a pity."
"Can you at least let me die with a clear understanding?"
"What kind of understanding do you want?"
"What’s really going on? Who’s trying to kill me?"
The driver’s lips moved slightly, and the hand holding the gun also moved, "This question... uh... is a bit difficult, I mean, hard to answer."
"You talk like a foreigner."
"Oh, alright," the driver put away his gun and shrugged his shoulders, "Actually, I did study abroad. They all call me Banana. The kind with yellow skin but Western thinking."
Ye Tian had considered this outcome but wasn’t so sure. It wasn’t until the driver put away his gun that he fully confirmed his guess.
"Don’t ask me who I am. Someone above wants to deal with you, and someone else wants to protect you. Just like that, you handle the rest yourself."
"Besides you three, does anyone else know?"
"Nonsense! That’s all, go back and handle things as usual; we three are just here to stir up trouble. Oh, by the way, take good care of that kid, I guess he’ll have lots of people coming after him later on."
"Won’t the person above handle it?" Ye Tian probed.
"Your value is to be assessed. Let’s talk about it later."
What a way to put it.
Ye Tian looked at the two people lying next to him and asked, "Do you need a hand?"
"Forget it. I can handle it myself."
"Then can you send me back? I don’t even know where this place is."
"Get off the car, run, head south, keep going and you’ll find a motel. There are cars, a map, and people there. Oh, and the owner is pretty good, if you’re interested, you can..."
Before he could finish, Ye Tian turned and got out of the car, unwilling to hear more from this Banana.
...
Trouble had indeed struck.
Zheng Ergou hadn’t expected to face the consequences of a death, nor had he imagined someone would stand in to take the fall. Things had gone far beyond his expectations, and his elder brother, Zheng Dazhi, had shown his thunderous approach for the first time.
"Who else knows about the money?"
"No, nobody else..."
"Bullshit!"
Zheng Ergou thumped to his knees, "Big brother, I really don’t know. I only told Tian’er, and I didn’t know she was mixed up with the Zhou family kid. Brother, I truly had no idea..."
"Get lost!"
Zheng Dazhi kicked away Ergou, who was clinging to his trouser leg. He was already beginning to regret it a little; if only he had shared the money earlier, maybe all the subsequent events could have been avoided.
"Brother, are you... going to kill me..."
Ergou was shivering with a frightful stutter upon seeing the murderous look in Dazhi’s eyes.
Zheng Dazhi glanced at this disappointing younger brother, his irritation untangling like yarn. He wanted to explode in anger, but it wasn’t time yet. The most pressing matter was how to silence others; as long as Zhou Xiaogang was under control, they could pin the blame on He Biandan and avoid major issues for the time being. The other priority was finding Chuanzi, who was no fool and likely had discovered the secret in the box. The money was not important; what mattered were the documents. To the average person, those papers weren’t even good enough to wipe their butt with, but to someone in the know, they were worth at least three billion at a conservative estimate. Now, finding Chuanzi, who had the documents and could be anywhere, was of the utmost urgency.
"Big brother, do you think the police will suspect us?"
"Suspect what? He Biandan committed the murder. We have witnesses and evidence. Don’t forget, I’m the policeman. What would they suspect, and who would dare?"
Ergou, intimidated by his gaze, knelt with his head bowed.
Zheng Dazhi looked at him with impatience, "Get up! I’m not your father!"
There’s not a single troubler-free person at home.
"From now on, stop roaming around and just stay here quietly. Don’t meet anyone who comes by; whoever looks for you, they must get my permission first. Oh, and leave your phone. I have a feeling Chuanzi might try to reach out to you again. If he really does come to you, hold him off and don’t reveal any information to him. Are you listening to me?"
The absent-minded Ergou was startled into a shudder by the sudden bang on the table, "Understood, understood."
"Coward!"
...
After leaving the motel, Zheng Dazhi began to worry again. The situation was fraught with countless troubles, and he couldn’t see where to begin without running into significant issues.
Whether he could pin the murder on He Biandan was one problem. Whether Zhou Xiaogang could be controlled was another serious issue. But it didn’t matter; the final link was still in his hands. However, the thorn that was Chuanzi was a real pain. Without removing this thorn, he couldn’t sleep peacefully.
Walking back to the station with a heavy heart, Dazhi sensed something off. A police car was parked at the front of the station. It wasn’t one from the station; it belonged to the bureau. With only a few people in a grassroots station, there was no need for a vehicle. The only possibility was that someone had already reported the case upward.
Once the case was reported, it was completely out of Dazhi’s control. Panic set in, and he hurried into the station.
His colleagues told Dazhi that the station chief wanted to see him in his office; there was something to discuss. Once he arrived at the office, he understood the situation. The incident couldn’t be contained and had alerted the higher-ups; Dazhi still couldn’t figure out precisely which link had gone wrong.
"Old Zheng, you’re here, come in, come in quickly."
Cheng Gong shifted his weight, and the two big ears that hung by his cheeks swayed with the movement. He had held down this station position for twenty years without moving and had it pretty easy. Outsiders said he lacked ambition and had no desire for progress, but Dazhi knew well that to stay put for twenty years in such a high-turnover position was no simple feat. Was it possible without the protection of several authorities above? This is after all a station in Beiping City, not even a city mayor of a prefecture-level city would want to swap.
