Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 128: First Mission
Chapter 128: First Mission
Inside, the Pavilion smelled like old paper and incense. Rows upon rows of manuals lined the shelves, each carefully categorized.
Han Yu’s eyes lit up.
This was what he needed.
Real techniques.
Real skills.
No more swinging a broom and hoping for the best.
He started browsing, heart pounding with excitement.
He couldn’t afford high-tier manuals yet — those cost precious points he didn’t have — but there were beginner-level techniques available for free or at a low cost.
After an hour of careful searching, he picked two manuals that were free for any disciple to take:
"Ironwood Stance" — a basic but solid defensive foundation technique.
"Falling Leaf Strike" — a simple but effective weapon art, which was quick to learn and was rather versatile, being able to be used with any weapon that was long enough.
This included Swords, Staffs, Spears, and more such weapons.
He signed them out with trembling hands and practically skipped back to his courtyard.
That night, under the crooked willow tree, with only the moonlight for company, Han Yu sat cross-legged with the manuals open before him.
He read.
He memorized.
He trained.
Every movement, every stance, every breathing technique, he practiced again and again until sweat poured from his body and his arms trembled.
No shortcuts this time.
No freak accidents.
No pills.
Just hard, honest effort.
Han Yu knew he wasn’t the smartest, the fastest, or the most talented.
But he also knew this:
Hard work was something even geniuses couldn’t replace.
And as long as he had breath in his body, he would keep climbing.
The next morning, Han Yu woke up sore all over.
His arms felt like they were made of iron. His legs barely wanted to move. His back complained loudly every time he tried to stand straight.
He loved it.
It was the soreness of progress.
After a quick breakfast of cold buns and tea, Han Yu set out toward the mission hall. It was time to pick his first official Outer Disciple mission.
He arrived early, but the place was already buzzing with activity. Disciples of all kinds crowded around the boards, some arguing over missions, others waiting in line to submit completed ones.
Han Yu found an empty spot and scanned the list.
There were missions for all kinds of tasks:
-Escorting a wandering alchemist into the nearby woods.
-Gathering rare herbs from the lower cliffs.
-Cleaning and maintaining the outer walls (ugh, no thanks).
-Hunting low-level spirit beasts that had wandered too close to the sect. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Han Yu’s eyes gleamed when he saw the last one.
Hunt down three Green Tailed Rabbits.
Location: Spirit Beast Forest (outer edges).Reward: 20 contribution points.
Green Tailed Rabbits weren’t very dangerous. They were small, fast, and mildly aggressive when cornered. They were at the Early Stage of the Qi refining realm, but other than their speed, they had little strength such that even a servant would be able to hunt them.
It was considered a safe mission for first-timers. Especially for Han Yu who was still at the Body Tempering Realm.
Perfect.
Han Yu stepped up to the window and handed over his token.
The attendant, a sleepy-looking senior brother, took one look at him, stiffened slightly, and then nodded respectfully.
"Mission approved. Be careful out there, Junior Brother Han."
’Junior Brother Han?’
Han Yu blinked at the address but didn’t question it.
After all, having a bit of fear-driven respect wasn’t a bad thing.
He took the mission slip, tucked it into his robes, and set off toward the outer forests with a broom tucked under his arm — not for sweeping this time, but as his makeshift weapon.
After all, he couldn’t buy a proper weapon yet. That cost a lot and even his three low grade spirit stones and all his gold coins wouldn’t be enough for a single one.
Plus since he hadn’t joined with ’honors’ he didn’t get the common weapons one got as a reward when recruited.
The outer edges of the Spirit Beast Forest were thick with mist and the sharp scent of herbs and wet soil. It was located just outside the sect and looked relatively calm. But this was just a facade as this place was still located within the Ending Spine Mountains.
Han Yu moved carefully, senses sharp.
His body, strengthened by the tenth stage of Body Tempering, adapted easily to the uneven ground and tangled undergrowth.
He didn’t have to wait long.
A flash of green darted across the clearing ahead.
A rabbit, the size of a small dog, with a bushy green tail glowing faintly with spirit energy.
Han Yu grinned.
He grabbed a rock, aimed carefully, and threw it.
The rock sailed through the air and thwack! — hit the ground a few inches away from the rabbit.
The Green Tailed Rabbit froze for a moment, then turned and charged straight at him, teeth bared.
"...Oh right, they’re aggressive." Han Yu muttered as he braced himself.
The rabbit leaped — fast, faster than he expected — but Han Yu stepped aside at the last moment, swinging his broom in a wide arc.
WHAM!
The broom smacked the rabbit midair, sending it tumbling into a bush with a surprised squeal.
Han Yu didn’t stop.
He lunged forward, grabbing the stunned rabbit by the scruff of its neck and bonking it lightly on the head with the broom handle, until it stopped struggling.
"One down!" Han Yu said triumphantly, tying the rabbit’s legs together with some spare twine and slinging it over his shoulder.
The second and third rabbits proved more troublesome.
They moved in pairs, dodging and weaving around him, using teamwork.
At one point, Han Yu found himself spinning in circles trying to catch them, his broom whooshing through empty air while the rabbits zipped around his legs.
He looked absolutely ridiculous.
A passing Senior Disciple on patrol even stopped to stare for a moment, blinked, and then walked away without a word, pretending he saw nothing.
Eventually, Han Yu managed to outlast the rabbits through sheer stubbornness, nailing one with a sliding tackle and cornering the last against a tree.
