Chapter 153 - Wanda and Company's Adventure P1

I realized that I never wrote the special about Wanda and the Nifflers, so I'll take the opportunity to write it now.

"

Wanda was in the living room, comfortably sunk into the couch, watching magical television while devouring snacks as if the end of the world were near.

The show she was watching was one of the most popular at the moment, largely because MagicTech had invested a fortune in its production. It focused on magical creatures, exploring their habitats and showcasing the daily lives of some kept in captivity for their protection.

That day's episode was dedicated to Nifflers, those adorable and chaotic creatures with long snouts, black fluffy fur, and native to Great Britain. They lived in burrows up to six meters underground, and females could have up to eight offspring per litter. They were obsessed with shiny objects and had a pouch in their bellies with an expansion charm, making them experts at stealing anything that glittered before you could blink.

At that moment, the host was interviewing a kind-looking old man holding a Niffler in his hands. The creature stared at the host's brooch with an emotion that could only be described as "I want that, and I want it now." That man was none other than the legendary zoologist Newt Scamander.

"Mr. Scamander, thank you for all the information about Nifflers. Would you like to say a few words to close the show?" asked the host with a professional smile.

"Of course," Newt said, nodding seriously. "Nifflers are friendly and very fun creatures. Many people keep them as pets, which is fine as long as they are given proper care. But some acquire them hoping to become millionaires, thinking they'll find an endless treasure... and they are very mistaken. Thanks to MagicTech, we discovered that some wizards were enslaving Nifflers and using them to steal. Unfortunately, many of them escaped. My message is clear: magical creatures do not exist for personal gain. They are companions, friends, and they deserve respect."

"Thank you very much, Mr. Scamander," the host said, closing the show with a smile.

Wanda suddenly jumped up from the couch with determination.

"Perfect!"

At that moment, Stephen passed by behind her and eyed her suspiciously.

"And what's up with you?"

"I'm going to save the Nifflers," Wanda declared firmly before running off to her room.

Stephen watched her go for a few seconds before shrugging and continuing on his way.

"Crazy..."

Meanwhile, Wanda grabbed her MagicPhone and quickly dialed a number.

"Hello? Wanda, what do you want?" came an annoyed voice from the other end.

"Rolf, you idiot! Where are the Nifflers?" Wanda asked without wasting time.

"Huh? What Nifflers?"

"The ones my uncle mentioned! He said the wizards enslaving them escaped. Where are they?"

"And how the hell would I know? Ask my grandfather!" Rolf snapped, growing more irritated.

"Then put him on, idiot! I'm wasting time with you."

"You're the one who called me! Ugh, forget it! I'll get him because I don't feel like arguing with a lunatic."

Hurried footsteps were heard, followed by Rolf shouting:

"Grandpa! The Flamel family idiot wants to talk to you!"

Wanda clenched her teeth in fury but forced herself to wait patiently.

"Little Wanda? What's the matter?" Newt asked calmly.

"Uncle, where are the Nifflers?!"

Newt remained silent for a few seconds, trying to process the question. On the other end, Rolf seemed to have explained something because the old man quickly understood the situation.

"You want to go after them, little one? I won't stop you, but it would be wise to take Stephen with you."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Just tell me where they are."

Newt sighed in resignation.

"I know you're going to go alone... so I'll tell Rolf to accompany you. He hasn't done anything productive all day anyway."

A loud, indignant shout from Rolf was heard in the background, but Newt completely ignored it.

"I'll give him the directions, so you'll have to wait for him."

Before Wanda could protest, Newt hung up.

"

Later, in a dark and eerie forest, Rolf walked alongside Wanda with an annoyed expression.

"I don't understand why you can't be a normal teenager and just stay home watching TV."

"I was doing that," Wanda replied calmly. Then she looked around. "Is this the place?"

All around them were torn and abandoned tents.

"Yeah. This was the last place my father found the culprits. They managed to capture five of them, but the other five escaped. The Nifflers we rescued were in terrible condition from the mistreatment. Many of them have traumas that will prevent them from returning to their natural habitat, so they'll have to stay in captivity with specialized caretakers."

Rolf clenched his fists in anger. As a true Scamander, he loved magical creatures as much as his grandfather, and seeing them suffer filled him with fury.

"Leave it to me," Wanda said with determination, crouching down to inspect the ground.

Inside one of the tents, she found dirty sleeping bags and a foul-smelling pillow. But what really mattered was there: a strand of hair.

"I got one. Help me find more."

Rolf looked at her with a "what the hell are you doing?" expression.

"Come on, idiot! We need them to find the ones who escaped."

Grumbling, Rolf obeyed. After searching the area, they managed to gather several more strands of hair.

"Good, now we need to find that fool Stephen to give us a hand."

"Whatever... as long as we can save the Nifflers, I'll go along with your crazy plan," Rolf muttered.

.....

"Stephen!" Wanda shouted as soon as she entered his house.

Stephen, surrounded by folders and papers on the couch, turned around with visible annoyance.

"What do you want? I'm busy," he said quickly. Then he noticed Rolf behind her and raised an eyebrow. "Weird seeing you with her... I thought you didn't want to get caught up in her nonsense."

"Grandpa sent me to give her a hand," Rolf replied, shrugging in resignation.

"Less talking, more working," Wanda ordered as she tossed a bag full of hair at Stephen.

He looked at it with disgust, then at Wanda, then back at the bag, completely baffled. But he knew that if he tried to get a coherent answer from Wanda, he'd probably lose brain cells. So, he fixed his gaze on Rolf.

"We're looking for some wizards who enslave Nifflers to search for gold," Rolf explained quickly. "Wanda said you have a way to track them... that's why we collected their hair."

"Uh-huh..." Stephen made the bag levitate without touching it, activating a series of spells filled with lights as he separated each strand of hair. Finally, he snapped his fingers, and the hairs transformed into papers with addresses.

"Done. If you need help..." he sighed. "I'm busy. Call only if you're in danger."

With that, he sank back into his mountain of papers.

"Sometimes you're useful, little brother," Wanda commented with a smile.

Stephen ignored her completely while Wanda and Rolf compared the notes with the addresses.

"Tsk. Looks like most of them belonged to the same guys, and they're already in prison," Rolf said, frowning.

"No, there's one here that isn't," Wanda pointed out excitedly, pulling out a paper. "Great! Let's go."

Before Rolf could say anything, Wanda was already running off without looking back, forcing him to follow.

"See you later, Stephen," Rolf said, raising a hand.

Stephen, without looking up from his papers, simply lifted a hand in response.

...

"This place stinks," Wanda complained as she trudged through a swamp.

"Are you sure this is the right way? We've been walking for hours," Rolf said, panting.

"Come on, weakling, stop complaining. We must be close," Wanda responded energetically. freeweɓnøvel.com

"I don't know how you have so much stamina... You're a monster," Rolf muttered, watching in disbelief as Wanda didn't even have a drop of sweat.

"Shhh, someone's nearby," Wanda whispered, pushing Rolf behind a tree.

In the distance, a hooded figure was cautiously advancing. Taking advantage of her invisibility spell, Wanda moved closer and, without warning, pounced on the person, pinning them down with her magic.

"Gotcha, villain!" she exclaimed excitedly, sitting on top of the person.

"Agh! Who are you? I'm not a villain!" protested a female voice beneath her.

"Silence, scoundrel! Tell us where the Nifflers are!" Wanda demanded, pointing her hand at the person's face.

"Nifflers? What are you talking about? I'm an Auror!"

"Aurors are the enemies of Nifflers?!" Wanda asked, horrified.

"What? What kind of logic is that?"

Rolf, seeing that this was going nowhere, stepped out of hiding and approached.

"Idiot, why don't we listen to her before you continue with your nonsense?" he grumbled, pulling back the person's hood.

Underneath the hood was a young woman with bubblegum-pink hair... though its color seemed to change, probably out of nervousness.

....

"So... you're after a pickpocket and followed them here," Rolf summarized after listening to the girl's story. Her hands were now tied, and her wand confiscated.

Meanwhile, Wanda kept eyeing her with suspicion.

"That's right, I work for the Auror Office," the young woman said, shooting quick glances at Wanda, as if afraid she might pull out a rope at any moment.

"And how do we know you're not lying?" Wanda asked, narrowing her eyes.

"Well... I have my Auror badge."

The girl searched her pockets"even with her arms tied, she could reach inside"but after checking them all, she suddenly froze.

"Right... The pickpocket stole it..."

"Obviously a lie. I say we hang her upside down from a tree until she confesses," Wanda declared seriously.

The girl paled but then studied Wanda closely before frowning in confusion.

"Wait a minute... Do you happen to know someone named Stephen? You look a lot like him."

"Eh?! You know Stephen? I see... That bastard is your boss, isn't he?! I knew that bald guy wasn't up to anything good with his company!" Wanda exclaimed, outraged.

Rolf rolled his eyes and stepped forward to cut the ropes and return the girl's wand.

"What are you doing?! Betraying me?!" Wanda protested.

"I know you realized it already... Acting dumb won't erase your embarrassment," Rolf replied, looking at her with annoyance.

Wanda, knowing she had been caught, averted her gaze with feigned indifference. She had only done it for fun.

"She's Stephen's sister," Rolf explained.

"Sister? I see... I heard about her from the instructor," the young woman commented, rubbing her sore arms. "By the way, my name is Nymphadora Tonks... but just call me Tonks. I don't like being called by my full name."

......

After quickly exchanging some information, they understood why all three of them were in the same place. It became clear that their enemies were likely the same, so they swiftly formed a team.

Tonks smiled confidently as she dusted off her clothes.

"Well, I guess we're a team now."

Rolf sighed and crossed his arms.

"Great... A team consisting of a hyperactive troublemaker, a guy who just wants peace, and an Auror who loses her own badge. Yeah, that sounds very promising."

Wanda elbowed him with a grin.

"Come on, Dumb Rolf, admit it. We're the coolest and most chaotic team in history!"

Tonks nodded enthusiastically.

"Well, chaotic for sure."

Meanwhile, somewhere else, Stephen shuddered and had the strange feeling that his life was about to get even more complicated.
