Rehab for SuperVillains (18+)-Chapter 150: A surprise?
Chapter 150: A surprise?
Kael stepped into the Haven, the late evening air cool against his skin, his arms laden with a bag from his errands.
The day had been productive: he’d pulled a few strings with Harris to register Freya as an A-rank superhero, bypassing the super hero test—a favor that cost him a chunk of cash, but there was no other way, Freya would have to reveal her face during the test and would have got caught.
He’d also secured their first official mission from the Department of Superhuman Affairs, a straightforward gig that felt like a perfect warm-up for the team, much easier than dealing with those rats.
To top it off, he’d bought three phones—one for Freya, one for Rhea, and one for the Haven—ensuring he could stay in touch and track them legally without resorting to secret trackers.
The last thing he needed was them thinking he didn’t trust them.
Excitement buzzed in his chest.
Tomorrow marked REAPER’s first official mission, and with Freya and Rhea’s combined strength, Kael might not even need to tag along unless the challenge escalated.
Things were finally falling into place, and starting tomorrow, he’d begin working with Tila, his new client, to guide her toward rehabilitation.
The Haven was becoming a real operation.
He turned the key in the lock, but it clicked uselessly—the door was already unlocked.
Kael froze, his hazel eyes narrowing.
The lock was designed to open from the inside without a key, but entering from outside required one.
He’d locked it before leaving, no question.
Someone had either gone out or come back and left it unsecured. His grip tightened on the bags, his stun baton heavy in his pocket as he pushed the door open.
The sound of the television greeted him, a low hum of dialogue and music.
Stepping deeper into the living room, he spotted Freya and Rhea sprawled on the couch, their heads turning as he entered.
Freya’s blue eyes lit up, her platinum-cyan hair catching the TV’s glow. "Kael," she said, rising smoothly, her cyan t-shirt and navy pants creased from lounging.
Rhea hopped off the sofa, her crimson hair bouncing, her amber eyes sparkling with an odd, almost manic energy.
"Kael, what’s in the bag?" she asked, eyeing the plastic sack in Kael’s hand, her black tank top and pants slightly rumpled.
"I made dinner," Freya said, her gaze flicking to the bag in Kael’s hand.
Kael hefted the bag, his grin easy. "For Tila," he said, pulling out a wrapped burger. "
Rhea’s amber eyes glinted, her lips twitching. "Special food for Tila, huh?".
"Just a normal burger. I’m not risking a plate and spoon with her. Paper’s safer." Kael chuckled, tossing the wrapper lightly in his hand.
He paused, his hazel eyes sharpening. "By the way, why’s the lock open? Did one of you go out, or did someone come by?"
Freya and Rhea exchanged a quick glance, their lips twitching into matching grins that set Kael’s nerves on edge. "What?" he asked, his tone wary.
"We went out for a bit," Rhea said, her voice dripping with mischief, her amber eyes gleaming.
"Got a surprise for you," Freya added, her smile sly, her blue eyes glinting with anticipation. "Come outside."
Kael raised a hand, his hazel eyes narrowing. "Hold up. Let me get Tila’s food to her first, or I’ll forget, and I don’t need another ’starving me to obedience’ case." He shot Freya a playful smirk, the jab light but pointed.
Freya’s lips curved, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Touché," she said, unfazed.
Rhea bounced on her heels, her energy barely contained.
"I’m coming with you," she said, falling into step as Kael headed toward Lila’s room. "Tila was a total bitch earlier, screaming cuss words, threatening to gut us, the works. Think she tired herself out and crashed."
Freya followed, her voice calm but edged with pride. "She was loud enough to wake the dead, so I froze the door, soundproofed it until she shut up. Worked like a charm."
Kael grinned, impressed. "Good job, Freya."
"Thanks," Freya said, her smile softening, a rare warmth breaking through her icy demeanor.
They reached Tila’s door, the air around it heavy, almost eerie.
Kael turned to Freya, his voice low. "Open it."
Freya’s smile turned knowing, as if she caught the subtext—he trusted her to handle the door’s risks. Rhea pouted, her amber eyes flashing. "I wanna open it!"
"Don’t, Rhea," Freya said, her tone firm, a hint of teasing. "We all remember what happened last time you did."
Rhea huffed but stepped back, crossing her arms.
Freya gripped the handle, pulling the door open with a single, fearless tug.
Tila sat on her bed, the power-suppressing collar gleaming around her neck, her sharp features twisted into a terrifying glare that pierced all three of them at once.
Her eyes burned with raw, unfiltered hatred, promising violence if she weren’t restrained.
"Dinner’s ready," Kael said, tossing the wrapped burger onto her lap.
He grabbed Freya’s arm, yanking her back as Tila lunged, her hands clawing at the air.
The door slammed shut just in time, Tila’s fists pounding against it, her voice erupting in a tirade of curses.
"You fucking bastards! I’ll rip your throats out! You’ll burn for this! I will Kill You All!" The words were venomous, muffled by the wood.
Freya raised a hand, ice spreading over the door in a shimmering layer, soundproofing it instantly.
"That’ll go on for a while," she said, her voice dry, her blue eyes unfazed.
knock knock knock knock
Before Kael could move, four sharp knocks came from the door beside Tila’s—Lila’s signal.
He opened it, finding Lila standing there, her glasses slightly askew, her black curly hair framing a worried face. "What happened?" she whispered, her voice trembling.
"Just gave Tila her dinner," Kael said, keeping his tone calm. "She’s... worked up. Will you join us for dinner or want the takeout?"
"Takeout," Lila said softly, her eyes flicking toward Tila’s door, concern etched in her expression.
Kael handed her the remaining burger, the paper crinkling, and she retuned back to her bed.
"Good night, Lila." He closed the door softly, locking it with a click.
He turned to Freya and Rhea, his hazel eyes curious but wary. "Alright, what’s this surprise? And it better be good, not some disaster."
Their mischievous smiles returned, Rhea’s amber eyes gleaming with excitement, Freya’s blue eyes twinkling with secrecy. "Follow us," Freya said, her voice low, teasing.
Rhea stepped behind Kael, her hands covering his eyes for dramatic effect.
"No peeking!" she said, her voice bubbling with glee.
They guided him outside, the cool evening air brushing his skin, the gravel crunching under their feet.
Kael’s senses sharpened, catching the faint sound of something shifting—crunching sound of gravel.
Rhea’s hands dropped, her voice triumphant. "Ta-da!"
A shiny new car’s horn blared—
