Reborn as a Rich Woman in the Eighties-Chapter 279 - 278 Not So
Chapter 279: Chapter 278 Not So
Lin Xia sat on the edge of the kang in Eastern House, straining her ears to listen for movement, knowing they had left the room to pick vegetables in the back garden, she sighed softly.
Just the thought of having to sit at the same table and eat with Lin Aiguo made her feel unbearable.
At this moment, her feelings were truly complex, even though she hated Lin Aiguo and didn’t want to acknowledge him.
But considering her younger brother and sister, she had to force herself to try.
Lin Aiguo himself had changed a lot and was often trying to make amends; she understood that Lin Qiu and Lin Dong still recognized him as their father in their hearts.
But she just couldn’t get over that hurdle in her mind; she couldn’t forget the past.
She couldn’t forget how Lin Aiguo had treated her mother and all of them.
Sitting beside her, Lu Zheng looked at her with an indulgent smile, "Why the sigh?"
Lin Xia shrugged helplessly, "Lu Zheng! Ah, how do I put it, it just feels quite emotional! You don’t know, we used to fight fiercely. I’ve attacked him with a knife before and even had him sent to a mental hospital, and now things have become like this..."
Now that they were lovers, Lin Xia did not want to pretend in front of Lu Zheng, anyway, he would find out about these things eventually.
Lu Zheng’s expression did not change upon hearing this, "Xiaoxia! I’ve heard about it!" When he heard it, he felt even more tender toward Lin Xia, this girl had taken on too much with her slender shoulders.
Lin Xia looked at him in surprise, her brows slightly furrowed, "Lin Dong told you?" He had been with Lin Dong since he arrived; it must be that kid’s doing.
"Mm!" Lu Zheng nodded.
Lin Xia couldn’t help but sigh, "This little brother of mine is really on your side now, telling you everything! It won’t be long before I, the eldest sister, have no place in his heart!"
Lu Zheng took her hand resting by her thigh, "Xiaoxia! It’s not like that at all!"
Lin Xia tried to pull away while whispering, "Why are you holding my hand again!"
Lu Zheng, however, leaned closer to her, "Do you know what Dongzi told me last night?"
Lin Xia was so focused on what he was saying that she forgot to pull away, "What did he say?"
Lu Zheng looked deeply into her eyes and slowly said, "He told me to always treat you well for a lifetime. If I ever treat you poorly in the future, even if he can’t beat me, he’ll fight me with all he’s got!"
He was also very moved at the time; perhaps this was the touching aspect of kinship.
"That little brat!" Lin Xia covered her mouth to hold back the sourness in her nose and the moisture in her eyes, such words were like those her brother would say!
"Xiaoxia! I will treat you well for a lifetime!" Lu Zheng solemnly caressed her cheek, making a promise.
In the past, he often thought it was sufficient to show his intentions through actions, without the need for words.
But in this moment, he wanted her to know the sincerity of his feelings for her.
Lin Xia shyly ducked her head, feeling a little bashful, "Why are you suddenly saying all this?"
"I wanted you to hear it!" Their hands interlinked, they gazed at each other, smiles spreading across their faces.
In the back garden, Lin Dong was shuttling through the bean poles with a flower basket, picking green beans, while Lin Aiguo went to pick tomatoes.
Lin Aiguo praised, "These are grown well!"
Lin Dong responded, "It’s all taken care of by my second sister!"
Lin Aiguo nodded without saying anything more, noticing the cucumbers beside him looked good and casually picked a couple.
Next door, Auntie Wu from the Sun Family was heading to the backyard toilet when she happened to see Lin Aiguo’s figure.
Just then, Lin Dong came out of the furrow, and Auntie Wu hurriedly asked, "Lin Dong! Why is your sister’s shop closed?"
"There was trouble! Closed for a few days!" Lin Dong did not know how much Auntie Wu knew about the situation, so he did not say anything else.
Mrs. Wu lowered her eyes to hide the discomfort in them. She had spent the morning listening to her second daughter, Lin Xia, talk about how the trouble at Lin Qiu’s store was all because of a woman from her husband’s workplace.
"So that’s what happened!" She lifted her head and looked at Lin Aiguo, asking, "Who is this person from your family?" It was her first time seeing him, and judging by his age, he might be some elder from the family.
Seeing Lin Aiguo, Dongzi glanced at him, "This is my dad!" He introduced the two, "Dad! This is Mrs. Wu!"
Lin Aiguo wasn’t sure how to address her, so he just smiled and nodded.
Mrs. Wu looked at Lin Aiguo in astonishment. Was this man the future in-law? Was it him who Lin Xia had sent to the mental hospital?
Quickly coming to her senses, she smiled and said, "So the future in-law has come!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Aiguo asked, "In-law?" Which one of his future sons-in-law’s mother was this?
Dongzi hurriedly explained, "Brother Wu is my second sister’s boyfriend!"
The expression on Lin Aiguo’s face immediately turned colder, "Oh! Is that so! It turns out you live so close!"
The trouble at Lin Qiu’s store was all started by this old woman’s son.
Although it was not yet certain how much Lin Yu was involved, that woman’s ability to ask a relative from the Industrial and Commercial Bureau to cause trouble surely had something to do with Lin Qiu’s boyfriend!
Mrs. Wu’s face began to look uneasy, as she had been met with a cold reception despite her friendly approach.
Seeing that the two were not on the same wavelength, Dongzi hurriedly said, "Mrs. Wu, my sister is still waiting for these vegetables!"
"Alright, you go ahead and get busy!" Mrs. Wu waved them off with a forced smile.
Lin Aiguo and Dongzi left the field and walked along a narrow path nearby.
Mrs. Wu watched Lin Aiguo coldly, then turned and headed for the bathroom.
From the kitchen, Lin Qiu looked towards the back, knowing they had just met and exchanged a few words.
Seeing their uneasy expressions, she couldn’t help feeling anxious.
Dongzi entered the kitchen to deliver the vegetables and also to find a small basin for the prepped string beans.
Lin Qiu asked quietly, "Dongzi! Is Mrs. Wu upset?"
Dongzi looked towards the living room for a moment, then said softly, "Not really! Second sister! I guess dad’s face turned sour when he heard she’s Brother Wu’s mom, and after learning how Brother Wu’s related to the trouble at your store... But, it’s nothing serious!"
"Yeah! I got it! You go ahead and pick the string beans, so I can start cooking!"
Dongzi left the kitchen, and Lin Qiu set aside her irritation and started working.
After leaving the bathroom, Mrs. Wu didn’t even bother to cook; she went straight to Wu Zhenghong’s store.
With Lin Qiu’s store closed, she didn’t have to worry about anything.
As long as she kept her voice down to not disturb the Sun Family across the way.
"Dahong! Lin Xia’s dad has come and he’s at their place!"
Wu Zhenghong was busily washing towels when she brushed a stray lock of hair from her forehead with her wrist, "Is that so? Mom, how did you find out?"
Mrs. Wu rolled up her trouser legs, "I saw him when I went to the toilet in the backyard! Knowing the relation to my family’s youngest, he still gave me a cold face! As if Lin Qiu’s any prize! Without her, my son could never find a bride?"
She thought back to the man’s attitude and couldn’t suppress her anger.
Wu Zhenghong sounded helpless, "Mom! Why did you have to start off like that when you first met? How will you handle the relationship from now on?"
Mrs. Wu curled her lip, "Handle the relationship in the future? I think the relationship is beyond handling as it stands!"
