Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space-Chapter 37 Sensation
Chapter 37: 37 Sensation
"This girl managed to sell her position at the textile factory for over four hundred yuan, yet she’s still able to work at the textile factory."
By now, a crowd had gathered around Wang Jianqiang.
"Isn’t that right? And the job’s even better than the previous one." Wang Jianqiang sighed after speaking.
"Is this girl really that lucky?"
"Isn’t that right?"
Everyone chatted away, envious of Jiang Xinyu.
Wang Jianqiang finally broke free from the crowd and hurried back home.
The news of Jiang Xinyu becoming a worker at the textile factory seemed to spread like wildfire; by nightfall, the entire village knew about it.
The Kong Family, three of them, sat on the kang with heavy expressions.
"Dad, I’m going to find her and swap jobs with her." Kong Mengjie had red eyes. She was also a junior high school graduate, and since Jiang Xinyu could pass the test, she believed she would have done better given the chance.
Her formal job was bought, while someone else’s was earned through exams; how could that be the same? Several girlfriends had made snide remarks in front of her, and although she paid little attention to anything else, she felt everyone was mocking her, hinting that she’d wasted her money.
Kong Zhongyou was silent, puffing away at his cigarette.
Seeing her father’s reaction, Kong Mengjie knew he was acquiescing. She quickly put on her shoes.
Jiang Xinyu was lighting the fire, sucking on a lollipop, with sweetness in her mouth.
Upon hearing the knock on the door, she nonchalantly opened it, knowing it couldn’t be anything good.
Seeing Kong Mengjie outside, Jiang Xinyu was stunned for a moment. "Kong Mengjie, are you here for something?"
Currently overwhelmed by jealousy, Kong Mengjie pushed past Jiang Xinyu, entered the yard, and even locked the gate behind her.
Jiang Xinyu raised an eyebrow, "This is my home, right? Why are you acting more assertive than the owner?"
"Jiang Xinyu, I want to swap jobs with you."
"Sorry, my work file has already been confirmed. If you have the ability, go to the textile factory for a swap; I have no objection."
"Don’t get arrogant." With that, she glared at Jiang Xinyu and dashed out, opening the door.
Jiang Xinyu shook her head, knowing that the female lead hadn’t matured yet; she was still rather inexperienced. She locked the door and resumed her fire-lighting.
Kong Mengjie ran home angrily, climbed onto the kang in her slippers. "Dad, Jiang Xinyu said her job has already been filed."
"Alright, then forget it. Be courteous with her in the future, let her look after you, and work hard yourself. A promotion isn’t impossible."
"Dad!"
"Alright, stop talking."
At night, the couple lay in bed. "Honey, do you think Jiang Xinyu is getting more and more mysterious?"
"A bit. Ever since the couple from Jiang Family passed away, the girl has changed. She’s got a great job as a director’s secretary. If she works hard, joins the Party, her career will advance quickly."
"Honey, should we fix this girl up with our second son?"
"The second one doesn’t think much of her."
"What’s not to like? Girls change drastically as they grow. The Jiang Family has good looks, and this girl shouldn’t be any worse."
"That’s hard to say. Tomorrow, you should write to the eldest and the second, have them come back and take a look."
"Done, I heard that girl will start work after the New Year, just in time to meet her."
Meanwhile, Jiang Xinyu was enjoying breakfast: rice, braised pork, two boiled shrimp, and mixed cabbage.
The lavish meal put Jiang Xinyu in a very good mood, and being tied to Wei Kaiyun didn’t feel so unpleasant.
Once the household registration issue was resolved, she could formally retreat. By next year, she would be fair and plump, and the thought of it felt wonderful.
She fell asleep in bed shortly after, but eighty percent of the villagers couldn’t sleep, discussing her affairs.
People who had previously considered marrying her were even more eager now.
The Jiang Family, however, was cursing endlessly, wondering how that damn girl got such a good chance. How did good fortune always happen to her?
Yet, the families had already quarreled, making reconciliation unlikely.
The Jiang Family members were all cursing Jiang Xinyu, hoping she would lose her job.
Wang Jianqiang and his wife were also talking about this matter.
"Today, Director Wei suggested repaying Xinyu for Ailing’s work opportunity as a favor."
"We owe them a big one. I don’t know why you took this matter upon yourself."
"Yeah, I have my reasons. With Xinyu’s matter at the forefront, Ailing’s temporary job wouldn’t draw attention."
"Didn’t expect that girl to have such a great fate. Thankfully, I didn’t stop Lingzi from befriending her."
"Ten years on the east, ten years on the west. Who knows what the future holds? The children’s friendships are their own business; you shouldn’t interfere. I reckon that girl is quite shrewd."
The most troubled one was Kong Mengjie. Having spent so much on this job, she was already upset, and now this happened; it felt like a knife stabbed into her chest.
She couldn’t help thinking that if she had gone to the county today and grabbed the opportunity, she could’ve been accepted and saved over four hundred yuan.
How did that broom-star get such a chance? Heaven must be blind.
The more Kong Mengjie thought, the sadder she felt. No, her job was secure; wasn’t it at risk?
With that realization, Kong Mengjie suddenly panicked. If she lost her job, the four hundred yuan spent on that damn girl would be gone forever, and she wouldn’t get it back.
Her secretary position was already established, making replacement unlikely.
Now Kong Mengjie was too restless to lie down, but it was midnight, and going to her wasn’t realistic. She was anxious and sleepless the whole night.
Other girls of similar age also resented Jiang Xinyu; how could such an orphan have such opportunities? It was unbelievable; heaven was blind.
Jiang Xinyu, with her job secured, slept soundly, while the entire village suffered insomnia.
The next day, just before seven, while it was still dark, and Jiang Xinyu dreaming away, the door was knocked on loudly.
Who was so inconsiderate this early in the morning? Disturbing peaceful dreams.
The person outside was relentless, forcing Jiang Xinyu to reluctantly get up, pack away the warm bedding, and finally go to open the door.
Seeing Kong Mengjie, Jiang Xinyu’s anger rose. "Where’s your manners? Blowing your top so early, don’t you know it’s rude to disturb peaceful dreams?"
"Jiang Xinyu, what about my job?"
"Your job’s in your hands. Why ask me?"
"You’re now secured work at the textile factory; what about mine? Won’t it be canceled?"
"No, you can relax."
"How can I relax? The textile factory isn’t yours; can you vouch for it?"
"If you don’t trust me, there’s nothing I can do. Shall I return your money?"
