Perfect Avatar-Chapter 267: The Will Of The World
Chapter 267: The Will Of The World
In the room, everyone was doing a staring contest, Marie avoiding Giudecca, Giudecca avoiding the Personas, Lucca trying to get Zury’s attention.
"This is taking forever, let’s do something so we don’t get bored." Sigma finally broke the silence.
He snapped his fingers, materializing a deck of cards.
"Let’s play Happy Families, the winner can ask anything, for example, the age of the shortstack."
"...Your funeral." Giudecca groaned.
The cards appeared in everyone’s hands, and even though they hated the idea, it was better than waiting.
They started playing a game where Sigma could control the cards, while Rhea, Dora and Eva were outside.
Eva looked up at the sky, Dora and Rhea did the same, and as the stars danced above, she whispered.
"I promised I’d tell you both everything when the time came. I realized something changed that rule, so I’m going to have to tell you a little part of the truth."
She closed her eyes.
"You know now that you have existed before, but not just you, and not everyone either. Each world has a concept, a reality of its own. Everyone comes from somewhere, some from this world, others from other worlds, and everyone will eventually leave, after death, to other worlds."
She looked at them both in turn.
"I think you often experience something like a voice, an instinct guiding your action or simply influencing you. This voice is the impersonification of the Will of the World."
Dora frowned, memories of a voice denying his existence on the day his sister and mother died resurfacing.
"Normally you would never be able to hear this voice, no one should be able to, but due to a tragic event, the world drifted from its path, and thus the Will of the World manifested itself."
Eva paused for a moment, she opened her eyes, contemplating the view.
She observed Dora in the eyes without a words for a moment, then chuckled.
"Dora... do you understand who you are?"
They held eye contact for a few seconds, after which Dora brought her hands to her chin.
"I understand that I am someone important and I have a rough idea of who that is."
"And who do you think it is?"
Dora glanced at him again, her attitude showing that she was looking forward to this specific answer, and Dora understood that this was most likely a test.
"...The one who paints the Canvas?"
Rhea looked at him in turn, it was a term used by Apophis, and now the one who had inherited her soul was using it.
She noticed a brief change in Eva’s eyes, her eyelids lowering slightly, filling her gaze with a sense of sorrow.
"...I see, that’s one way of looking at it. Let’s wrap it up with another part of the story then."
Dora’s eyes narrowed, he also noticed the change and understood that he had given some sort of wrong answer.
"As I told you, in this world, there is something like an eternal cycle of reincarnation. When someone dies, they can reappear in another timeline or Era. The factor in determining whether the rebirth of the person is also part of the Will of the World. This can be the case when an event, a tragedy, or something else happens, but people can appear in this world or leave for other worlds... except one entity that will exist in all worlds at once."
"In need, Dora must always fight..."
Dora whispered inadvertently. He remembered this sentence from the day he woke up again, everything made more sense but became more and more complicated.
Eva paused, allowing him to find the answer she was looking for, and then something snapped.
"...The Twilight of the Gods? I appeared... because the Twilight of Gods was coming?"
He looked at her with great confusion.
"I was born a thousand years ago, then reborn around that time, so I always followed an occurrence of the Twilight of Gods?"
"...Yes and no. If Dora must always fight is the rule that the Will of the World has set for you, it is certainly not related to the Twilight of Gods. It is in fact the opposite, the Twilight of Gods...is after you."
In their room, Alpha dropped his cards, widening his eyes.
"...Father? Are you okay?" Sigma asked.
Alpha looked worriedly at his comrades.
"Guys... tune in to the channel, it’s going crazy."
The Personas looked at each other and then listened to Eva’s revelation through their bonds with Dora.
Eva looked at the sky.
"I promised to tell you everything, but with the current situation, I have to be careful with my revelations. For now, please bear with the little information I can give you. My goal is to help you to be as strong as before, and I’m sure it works in your favor, so let’s settle it for our negotiation."
"...I see... So I failed the test?"
Eva smiled slightly.
"We’re very close to a conclusion, I just want to make sure this world doesn’t suffer the same fate as mine... Can we not pursue the details?"
She looked at him with a strange feeling of sadness. Dora wanted to know more about the truth, but on the other hand, exterminating the Players was the best opportunity to achieve his goal. He sighed, scratching his hair.
"Alright, let’s stop here then. I’ll figure it out some way. " In the distance, a faint, almost inaudible sound of frustration from the Personas could be heard. "But I’m interested in the part about our link together."
Eva nodded, taking a sip of tea.
"Thank you for your understanding. It’s a bit complicated to explain, basically, each world has a setting, and in this specific world, our world, you were both brother and sister. A thousand years ago, I met you and we became very good friends."
She grabbed one of Dora and Rhea’s hands.
"I was helpless and insignificant, but you both took great care of me. You were so different and yet so similar. Dora, you were very kind and gentle, it was always great fun to be with you, but if you faced adversity, you would become an unstoppable force. It was like a cherry with a heart of pepper. As for you, Rhea, it was the opposite, you were very tough, unbreakable, and terrifying to many, but to the two of us, you would show a completely different face. Sweet as a cherry, kind, and protective. Both of you had a different ideology, but you shared the same goals, and I was lucky to be in between... I really missed those days."
She smiled at each of them in turn, then looked up at the stars.
"I’m sad that you were born again to be separated, I was hoping we could get together sooner, but the moment we finally found you... Hm... No, it’s too soon, we still have a chance."
Her eyes rested on Dora one last time.
"The moment you understand who you are, it will all be over. I will give everything for you to succeed, and only then, our lives together will resume."
The three looked at the stars together, two shadows and one light united for the first time.
In the room, Alpha lowered his head, he took a breath, assimilating what they had learned, and then he noticed that Lucca was crying and that Marie seemed troubled, a hand on her forehead.
"Hm? What’s going on with them?"
Sigma shuffled the cards in his hands.
"Hm? Oh, things were getting juicy, so I took the liberty of broadcasting their meeting in everyone’s heads."
"...Sigma, what the fuck?!"
"Yes! That’s what I thought too when I heard that! It’s fucking crazy!"
Finally, in another place of the world, Candace lowered her head. Eyes shaking, still chained, and sitting next to her, Beta sighed.
"It will be all, she won’t say more than this. They will follow the plan."
"... The plan..." She murmured, beads of sweat on her forehead. "... So they won’t go to Ambrosia... now?"
Beta leaned his back on a green pillar behind, his tired emerald eyes on the abyss above.
"No... they won’t... Nothing will stop what’s coming to them."
