Chapter 244: Despair

A wave of panic swept through everyone. Isis, whose irises glowed blue, was slowly covered by a blue aura.

Freya’s group was petrified; years ago, they’d heard all about the seven Avatars of Sin, all but one whose whereabouts were unknown, to the point of disappearing in every speech.

But here, in the middle of hell, there she was, and the elves’ reaction testified to how incredible it was.

"What? .... What?!" stammered Nefertari.

The elves trembled in disbelief; they’d lived a very long life, but that day they’d learned that the top of their world was a lie.

The queen was not the queen, and the wisest among them was an impostor.

"Lust... Is Isis?" murmured Liliana.

Isis stroked her blond hair, plunging her gaze into the girl’s.

"Wrong order, to be more precise, it’s even the opposite."

Her aura charged with enormous power, Isis’s body gradually turned blue, and a strange pressure covered the whole group.

She watched each face carefully, then slowed her gaze on one person in particular.

"Yes, since she appreciates you, let’s do it with you."

A flash of light illuminated the entire room, then slowly, the aura shrank, limiting itself to Isis alone.

Her body was now entirely blue and slowly, energy particles separated from her body, floating above, and living a spectacular vision on Isis’ body.

"I told you you weren’t right... Lust isn’t Isis, Lust is more than Isis, Lust isn’t even an elf... Lust can be anyone... literally."

The energy left Isis’s body completely, leaving a sight that managed the miracle of breaking everyone’s mind in a second.

First the voice, then the newly created armor, then the long black hair, and finally a face.

"Sanctification of lust: Imitator."

Elizabeth appeared in Isis’ place.

A scream escaped Hope’s lips, and the boy fell to the ground, face to face with a face he hadn’t seen for 2 years, not even in a photo.

Freya’s eyes widened, Cid’s brain almost stopped working.

Among normal humans, the face that was known even to the Gods on earth was right there, in perfect form, with its smile bathing the world in beauty.

But it was a face Hope wished he’d never seen, at that moment.

"Aaah...ah... No !... No..."

Elizabeth tilted her head with a teasing smile.

"What’s the matter? Hope? Don’t you know how to greet your sister?"

"Imp... impossible... you’re not real... you can’t be real!"

Elizabeth laid a hand on her chest, looking saddened.

"What are you saying, you idiot? I’m here and I’ve missed you so much, how dare you reject me? You want me to teach you how to be a good man?"

She squeezed her first with a pout, nothing was closer to Elizabeth than that, and it was enough to break Hope’s spirit even more.

"Please...please...not that.... Eli... Eli is..."

"... Hope. I think I told you to trust yourself more than the rest of the world. Look into my eyes, do I look like a dead girl?"

She stepped forward, her smile more tender than ever, Hope dropped onto his buttocks, helpless.

Time seemed to slow down for him, no one but Elizabeth was in his vision.

"Please, you abandoned me once, don’t do it again, Hope."

Tears formed in Hope’s eyes, and Elizabeth’s glowed blue.

"Stop daydreaming, you idiot!"

A metallic clash occurred right in front of Hope, Eryl, with her dagger tried to stab Elizabeth, but the latter reacted promptly with a sword parry.

"My... If only it were only a 1v1..."

Eryl gritted her teeth.

"Hope, how can you let yourself be fooled by such a thing? Your sister is already dead! This thing isn’t Elizabeth... but a real imposter."

Elizabeth grabbed the servant’s wrist.

"Well... To be honest, I’m literally 100% Elizabeth. From knowledge... To power."

She tossed Eryl behind her effortlessly Freya flinched and rushed toward her, but suddenly the whole room beat like a living heart.

"What is it?!"

The young woman looked around, then managed to notice Rhea’s intense gaze on the palm of her hand.

Up ahead, Cleopatra clapped softly.

"I can’t get enough of pure desperation. Is there anything more effective than seeing one’s humanity? Nothing is more delicious than a face distorted by inescapability..."

A dagger pierced her chest, everyone watched in amazement as Eryl appeared right in front of the Queen.

"You want despair? I’ll give you despair! Voracity!"

A bomb of voracity vaporized the Queen’s head.

As the elves’ jaws dropped, the group stood speechless, but here, Cleopatra stood headless.

Eryl leapt away.

" !!!"

But her body refused to move. The room throbbed again, like a heartbeat, then a third time, again and again.

Slowly, a growl rose, and eyes filled with distress.

"My daughter from another world... I couldn’t ask for more."

In a surreal scene, Cleopatra’s body regenerated, bones, flesh, a jaw, her head incomplete, but her words perfectly complete.

"Despair is the most delicious feeling a human can experience, it touches the heart with love and respect for insignificant things and allows you to give them more value. It’s also the closest feeling to the Divine, because a God is known for his ruthlessness, despair is the inevitable loss of a treasure."

Freya tried to move, but realized that her legs were no longer listening to her will.

She cast a despairing glance at Rhea, but the general and her soldiers remained unmoved.

Cleopatra, fully regenerated, leaned on Eryl, the maid giving her a look filled with the greatest rage in the world.

"Yes... those eyes... that’s what I’m talking about. You came here a long time ago, and you left something important behind. You left your heart, and for decades, you’ve been looking for a chance to get it back, to punish the monster who destroyed your life... you’ve managed to get so close... So close... But at the very last moment... You failed."

Eryl’s eyes filled with tears of rage.

"...Damn you...Envy!"

The queen closed her hand over the maid’s and turned the dagger to her chest.

"In a land where you’ve lost your world, at the hands of the person you hated most, this is the culmination of despair."

"GET AWAY FROM HER !!!!" Freya screamed with all the air in her lungs.

Eryl’s eyes glowed green, and the ground covered in red.
