Chapter 227 - 227: Nami Joins, Preparations for What’s Next
After hearing about everything that had transpired during the Summit War...
Big Mom was utterly shocked—beyond shocked.
She never would have imagined that a war started because of 'Fire Fist' Ace, a battle between the Marines and Whitebeard, would escalate into such an unprecedented, world-shaking event.
"Mom, the entire New World is in chaos now. Many pirate factions and the underworld seem eager to take advantage of the situation to stir up more trouble. Should we make a move as well?"
Katakuri turned to Big Mom and asked.
"Make a move?"
Big Mom furrowed her brows for a moment before breaking into a wide grin.
"Mamamama! Rather than making a move... how about we don't do anything at all?"
"Eh?"
Cracker looked surprised. "But now's the perfect opportunity! You're saying we should... do nothing?"
Big Mom gazed at Katakuri and the others before speaking.
"The Five Elders and Kong aren't pushovers. Even Rocks back in the day couldn't shake their rule. The depths of the World Government's power run far deeper than you think."
"But that Traveler Ron, Kaido, and the Revolutionary Army's Dragon... their alliance is not to be underestimated either."
Big Mom narrowed her eyes.
"Rather than jumping into a war between those two sides, we should just sit back and watch. The longer we wait, the more we might be able to gain from it."
"Ahaha! I see! As expected of Mama!"
Charlotte Daifuku laughed heartily in admiration.
"But still... I never would have thought that little brat would be the one to start all of this."
Big Mom's gaze landed on the newspaper in her hands, staring at the picture of a man who now carried an infamous title.
"Traveler Ron... the 'Demon King' who will bring destruction to the seas, huh..."
Her eyes lingered on the word "King."
Suddenly, blood vessels bulged across her eyes, turning them red. A sinister, terrifying aura erupted from her body.
Katakuri, Daifuku, and Cracker all looked on in shock as Big Mom's eyes burned with uncontrollable rage.
Drool dripped from the corners of her mouth, and without warning—
She snapped.
"That brat... they dare call him a 'King'?!!"
With a deafening roar that shook Whole Cake Island, an overwhelming burst of blood-red Conqueror's Haki surged from Big Mom's body, sweeping across the entire island like a raging storm.
Countless pirates and homies alike collapsed unconscious, overwhelmed by her power. The sky above turned dark red, and the seas around the island roared with towering waves.
Big Mom's furious declaration echoed across the New World.
"King? Demon King?! THERE IS ONLY ONE KING OF THE SEAS—AND THAT'S THE PIRATE KING!!"
...
That Same Day.
Ron's Ship soared from twenty thousand meters above sea level, gliding past the Red Line that separated Paradise from the New World.
From above Mary Geoise, it drifted effortlessly across the sky before finally descending onto the vast ocean of the New World.
Ron lay back on a deck chair, casually flipping through a newspaper.
He chuckled.
"What's so funny?"
Robin approached from behind. Her pale, slender arms wrapped gently around his neck as she leaned in, resting her chin lightly on his shoulder while curiously glancing at the newspaper in his hands.
"You see this? The World Government is calling me the 'Demon King' who will bring destruction to the seas. Isn't that hilarious?"
Robin giggled behind her hand.
"It is."
Their faces were so close, but neither of them seemed fazed in the slightest. It was as if such intimacy between them was the most natural thing in the world.
From behind the door to the cabin—
A certain orange-haired navigator peeked out, her hands covering her mouth, her eyes wide with shock as she watched the two.
Suddenly—
A hand landed on her shoulder, startling her so much that she nearly yelped.
She spun around, only to see Conis, dressed in a flowing white dress, her long golden hair cascading down her back, tilting her head in curiosity.
"What's wrong, Nami?"
"Ah! Conis! You scared me..."
Nami clutched her chest and exhaled deeply.
Conis blinked.
"You looked so nervous. What were you watching?"
Following Nami's gaze, she looked over to the two people on the deck.
"...Have they always been that close?" Nami couldn't help but whisper.
"Hm? Is that what you call close?" Conis asked, tilting her head in confusion.
"Uh..."
Nami stared at Conis, who looked at her with pure, innocent curiosity. For a moment, she didn't know how to respond.
"Aren't you the navigator of the Straw Hat crew? Your name is Nami, right? Didn't you go to Sabaody Archipelago with them?"
A voice suddenly rang out from behind them.
Nami and Conis turned around.
Standing there was Bonney, dressed in denim shorts and a cropped tank top, her long pink hair flowing over her shoulders. She was holding a few bottles of ice-cold beer, looking at Nami with interest.
"You don't know yet, Bonney?"
Conis wrapped her arms around Nami's and smiled at Bonney. "Nami is part of our crew now."
"Huh? Since when?"
Bonney raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"After the war ended, when we were still on that deserted island with the Straw Hats," Conis recalled. "I think she and the captain made some kind of agreement."
"An agreement?"
Bonney's curiosity grew as she looked at Nami.
Nami gave a small nod. "It was something from back in the East Blue. Ron once told me that I could board his ship, but at that time, I wasn't a skilled navigator yet. So, we made a promise—when we met again, if I had become an excellent navigator, I'd decide whether or not to join his crew."
Conis grinned as she hugged Nami and turned to Bonney. "That's how it happened! She hesitated for a long time, but Robin and I convinced her in the end."
"But what about that Straw Hat kid?" Bonney questioned. "Without a navigator, they'll be in serious trouble, won't they?"
"Jinbe already agreed to join the Straw Hat crew," Nami replied. "With his navigation skills, he can completely replace me."
Sailing with Luffy, Zoro, and the others had been a thrilling adventure, but she had always been the only woman on board. In some ways, it was inconvenient.
But now, she had the chance to sail alongside Robin, Conis, and the others.
Now that Jinbe had decided to join the Straw Hats, she could finally leave with peace of mind.
...
Meanwhile, on Sabaody Archipelago...
Sanji collapsed to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably as he pounded the ground with his fists.
"Nami! Why? Why?!"
Luffy, who had just woken up, was stuffing food into his mouth while speaking with his cheeks full. "Well, if that's the decision Nami made, there's nothing we can do about it."
"Speaking of which..." Luffy turned to Jinbe. "Your name's Jinbe, right? I remember you're super strong. Are you really gonna join us?"
Jinbe's expression turned serious. "I promised Ace that I would take care of you. And I also acknowledge your strength and willpower in trying to save Ace at Marineford. So..."
Jinbe knelt on one knee, placing his hand over his heart.
"Let me join the Straw Hat Pirates!"
That day, the "Knight of the Sea," Jinbe, officially replaced Nami as the Straw Hats' new navigator.
...
Seven days after the Summit War.
In the New World, Ron's Ship sailed across the vast ocean, cutting through the waves.
On the deck, Ron stood by the railing, dressed in beach shorts and a white shirt. His long black hair danced wildly in the wind, his eyes closed, a faint smile tugging at his lips as he enjoyed the gentle sea breeze.
This war at Marineford had given him more than just battle experience for his Tenseigan—it had also significantly boosted his Conqueror's Haki.
From Level 6 in the second stage, it had now broken through to Level 7 in the third stage.
This evolution was directly tied to the power surge he had experienced after unlocking his Tenseigan's seal.
For the first time, he had felt the confidence of someone who stood at the pinnacle of the world, gazing down at all beneath him.
That overwhelming aura had reached its peak during the war at Marineford, culminating in the eruption of his terrifying Conqueror's Haki, at that very moment, his Conqueror's Haki had reached a breakthrough.
"Swordsmanship has reached the level of a fully accomplished Grandmaster Swordsman. All three types of Haki have advanced to the third stage. My physical abilities have also improved to the point where I can barely exchange blows with that old man Garp when I activate the Essence of Strength. As for the Tenseigan, I've now mastered its advanced abilities—controlling gravity and repulsion, rewriting consciousness, creating Truth-Seeking Orbs, and spatial teleportation."
Ron opened his eyes, the deep blue glow of his Tenseigan shimmering as he pondered.
"The next step is to explore the deeper powers —Chakra Mode, Spatial Manipulation, Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion (Ginrin Tensei Baku), and... Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion (Konrin Tensei Baku)."
"Apart from those, if I want to improve my strength further, one key area is definitely Haki. But the fastest and most obvious boost would come from... Devil Fruit Awakening."
Ron narrowed his eyes.
His Float-Float Fruit abilities had already reached a bottleneck. He could feel it—if he could break through this limit, he would finally achieve Paramecia Awakening!
At that point...
Even a massive island wouldn't be beyond his ability to make it float.
Thinking of this, Ron suddenly remembered something.
He had once made a promise to Prince Shark of Fish-Man Island—when the day came that he could make the island float, he would return.
Fish-Man Island, huh...
Ron's thoughts drifted to the beautiful, fantastical underwater kingdom, to the pure and innocent Princess Shirahoshi. A faint smile appeared on his lips.
It had been two years.
By now, Shirahoshi must have grown even more...
"What are you thinking about?"
A voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Nothing."
Ron cleared his throat and turned to look at the person beside him.
Standing there was Kuina, dressed in a crisp white training outfit, a long sword at her waist. Her slender figure was poised with quiet strength, her high ponytail swaying slightly in the breeze.
His gaze lingered, and Kuina, noticing it, blushed slightly. "What? Is there something on my face?"
"No, I was just thinking... You really do look a lot like that Marine officer, Tashigi. Don't tell me Koushirou— Haha, just kidding! No need to draw your sword."
With a dark expression, Kuina silently slid Wado Ichimonji back into its sheath.
Ron chuckled and leaned back against the railing, looking up at the sky. He sighed contentedly. "The weather's great today. The sea breeze feels really nice."
Kuina followed his gaze, watching the vast blue ocean stretch endlessly toward the horizon. She gave a soft "Mm."
"How's Nami settling in?"
"She's doing well," Kuina replied with a nod.
Nami had quickly adapted to life on the ship. She got along well with Robin, Conis, and even bonded with Bonney, Enzo, and Carrot. As a navigator, her ability to read ocean currents was outstanding.
However, since Ron's ship spent most of its time in the air, she had limited opportunities to fully utilize her skills as a navigator.
Ron closed his eyes again, smiling. "That's good to hear."
Kuina hesitated for a moment, then asked, "What's your next move?"
"First, I'm going to find Zephyr. After that, I'm heading to Big Mom's territory."
Ron pulled two Vivre Cards from his coat pocket.
Back in Dressrosa, Ain had given him Vivre Cards for both Zephyr and herself. With them, finding their location would be simple.
"Big Mom's territory? Are you planning to form an alliance with her?"
Kuina looked surprised.
"An alliance? That's unlikely. The Big Mom Pirates probably want to stay out of this war and just watch from the sidelines."
Ron smirked, twirling the Vivre Card between his fingers. "And I have no intention of forming an alliance with her either."
"Then why go?"
"To take the Road Poneglyph in her possession."
His smile widened slightly.
"And to... warn her."
