My SSS-Rank Class Is Blood Monarch!-Chapter 383 - - God’s Gate (Part 20)
*CRACK*
The ice spear slowly broke into small shards as Arthur struggled to hold on. His face was riddled with beads of sweat as he tried to climb on top of it to at least be able to jump to safety. However, he knew that every single small movement he could make could snap the ice and then he would fall to the abyss beyond.
Luckily for him, the rain of monsters eventually stopped after several dozen of them fell to their death. So, he didn't have to worry about another monster dragging him down with it.
"Come… On… I just need to be calm…" He exhaled audibly before he held on with a better grip on the sword. What made the task even harder was the fact the sword's handle was small, so it didn't fit two hands, and he was forced to use his right arm to hold on to it.
"Fuuuh… Ok, I just need to somehow climb up." Looking to the side, Arthur inspected the face of the cliff to know what kind of terrain it was. Luckily for him, the cliff was purely of stone and dirt, having many ridges and holes in it.
"I can definitely use it to climb…" He muttered. 'But, reaching it is a whole different story. I need to jump there.'
*CRACK*
The time ticked quickly for Arthur as he faced a new choice he had to make. Taking a leap of faith toward the face of the cliff would be the best decision, but a single mistake and his death was basically guaranteed.
*CRACK*
With each second passing, the ice was snapping audibly, as if it was urging Arthur to make that choice faster than he would've wished for. The boy clenched his teeth and closed his eyes for a moment.
'I hate my life.' He cursed. Then, with his mind made up, he shifted the direction he was facing a little before he started to swing on the sword slowly going back and forth.
His momentum wasn't too strong nor too weak as he tried to keep the ice from snapping completely. But, the problem with that was the fact it could simply not be enough to reach the edge, and that was the leap of faith he decided to make.
'1… 2… 3… I can do it… Let's go!!' At that moment, Arthur's eyes flashed with a strong glint before he released his hands from the sword and launched forward at full speed.
*SNAP*
The ice snapped at the same exact time and started falling to the abyss. Arthur's body slammed into the wall as he quickly grabbed onto one of the ridges with his right fingers. His fall stopped immediately, and all the strain was applied to his joints, making him squint.
"Shit!!" Quickly, he threw his sword into the storage space and grabbed into the other hole with his left arm. "Yes! I did it!! Hahaha, die, suckers!!"
*Crack*
Suddenly, he felt his right hand give up as the stone cracked and fell into the abyss. In a fit of panic, he grabbed onto the nearest rock for safety. Luckily, his left hand was strong enough to carry his weight.
"Woah! Ok, ok, I will shut up!" Exhaling a long sigh of relief, he looked up. Luckily, the trip to the surface was not that far. But, to do that, he first tried to trace a good route upwards. The task took him a few seconds.
Then, without wasting any more time, he started climbing up as fast as he could. freewebnøvel.coɱ
'The others need me! I hope nothing bad happened, but I need to go back as quickly as possible!' He clenched his teeth.
In the time he was stuck in the hole, the others could be facing more and more monsters. He had killed many and caused the death of even more monsters, but he didn't know whether they were still spawning or if their numbers had stopped increasing.
In a matter of 10 seconds, Arthur found himself near the edge again. He extended his hand to grab the edge and climb up.
'I'm here!' His eyes lit up with relief. The sheer sensation of happiness that washed over him at that moment was overwhelming. He had dodged another near-death situation.
"EEEER…"
"Huh?"
However, at that very moment, all of that hope vanished as quickly as it had appeared. As Arthur's hand extended up, he heard the last noise he wished to hear. The screech of a monster reached him as an arm stretched out of the darkness and grabbed him.
The boy's eyes widened as he looked up, meeting the eyes of the monster. His heart stopped for a moment, along with his breathing… He didn't know how to react at all.
The monster saw that fear flash in his eyes, and it immediately moved as it stomped on his hand ruthlessly, making the boy scream out loudly. Then, it stomped it again with even more force.
"AGHH!!" Arthur felt as if his fingers were getting crushed slowly, finger by finger. Even with the pain receptors reducing the pain down to almost 1/10th of its original level, it was still immensely painful, making the boy's fingers slip.
"No!!" He quickly tried to grab with his other arm as a last resort. 'Why is this bastard still here?! I thought I had killed them all! Ugh, I need to get up somehow before it sends me down again!'
The situation became dire extremely quickly, and he didn't know how to deal with it. As he put his left hand, it was met with the monster's sharp fangs as it bit down on his left fingers.
The boy clenched his teeth tightly and tried to struggle against the monster with his right hand. He tightened it into a fist and punched its body, only for the monster to swat it off and continue biting down on his left arm.
'It knows that if it can make my left arm slip, I will fall!'
The struggle continued for almost a minute, and the desperation reached a whole new level for Arthur.
He punched and struggled against the assault, trying to simply climb out of the cliff. However, the monster didn't give him any room to do that. Slowly, his fingers slipped one by one.
"Why… Just why…" The desperation in his eyes flashed quickly. 'I almost made it! This is so frustrating!!'
At that point, Arthur started believing that he was simply going to fall. He was even incapable of using any of his skills as it required him to have a free hand, which he didn't. His right arm was supporting him and could only be used with immense restrictions, and his left arm was simply his last lifeline, and he couldn't release it.
"Fight me like a man, you piece of rotten flesh! I would hack you into pieces!" He yelled loudly. But the monster didn't care and continued biting his flesh until it finally yanked a piece of his arm off, making the boy shriek at the top of his lungs. Blood exploded out of his arm like a fountain.
With that last attack, the boy's left hand lost all grip.
