Two days later...

Inside his room, Leon sat on a chair, flipping through page after page with a serious expression.

For the past two days, he had buried himself in a mountain of books—not without reason. He was trying to deepen his understanding of the hidden races and their traits.

After all, as he had mentioned before, the elven race possessed countless books containing information about other races—though not as extensive as those about their own.

Still, it was more than enough for him to study their characteristics and behaviors.

That way, he could better strategize and prepare for future encounters.

*Knock!*

Just then, a knock came at the door. Moments later, it creaked open.

A beautiful woman appeared in the doorway, wearing a thin white nightgown.

She was none other than Zelda.

"Still not asleep, Leon?" she asked, stepping inside and giving him a curious look.

Leon wasn't surprised by her appearance, nor was he upset that she had entered without permission.

They had been sharing the same bed for over a week—not for any suspicious reason, but to keep up appearances in front of the three elders.

The elders had insisted they continue sleeping in the same room, hoping it would lead to them producing offspring soon.

Having no other choice, Leon and Zelda complied with the request and continued the same routine as on the first day.

At first, sharing a bed was awkward and a bit embarrassing—especially since Zelda would sometimes unconsciously hug or kiss him upon waking.

But over time, they got used to it. Even when she woke up hugging him, Zelda no longer felt flustered. Instead, she would tease Leon with a playful smile.

To anyone else, they would have seemed like a real couple—though in reality, they weren't.

"Not yet," Leon replied with a smile, shaking his head slowly.

He leaned back against the chair, shifted slightly to the side, then added, "I'm still working through the books I haven't finished. Take a look."

He pointed to two stacks of books, each with ten thick tomes, and chuckled. "I've still got a lot to go."

Zelda let out a tired sigh as she walked over and stopped beside him.

Her face showed mild irritation as she said, "Aren't you tired of reading all the time? Don't you want to do something more fun?"

Leon shook his head. "Of course I want to do other things. But reading these books from the Emerald Palace library is a rare opportunity. They contain fascinating records spanning seven thousand years of history. Do you realize that if these books were ever revealed to the outside world, it could cause a major upheaval?"

His words left Zelda momentarily speechless. Her brows furrowed slightly, doubt clearly etched across her beautiful face.

"Seriously? It could have that much impact?" she asked in awe.

To her, the books were merely ancestral relics—not nearly as valuable as Leon claimed.

"I'm not lying," Leon said, looking at her seriously. "The history of the Demon, Human, and Dragon races was altered by Demon Emperor Amon Crimson seven thousand years ago."

"As a result, history only records events after his reign. Everything from the era before that has been lost."

Zelda fell silent. She remembered Leon mentioning this before.

To erase all traces of the Evil God's existence and prevent mass panic, Demon Emperor Amon Crimson had falsified history.

His goal was also to help Leon rise in secret and deceive both the sealed Evil God and his followers.

Only now did Zelda truly understand why Leon placed such importance on the library's books.

"I get it. But…" Zelda pursed her lips, closed the book Leon was reading, and looked at him intently. "It's late. You should rest. Besides, there's something I want to talk to you about."

"Something you want to talk about? What is it?" Leon asked, curious.

Zelda didn't answer right away. Instead, she walked over to the table where jars of tea and coffee were arranged neatly alongside rows of wooden cups.

She began brewing tea for them both. Before long, the scent of hot, fragrant tea filled the room, and she returned with two cups in hand.

"It's about the Elven race," she said softly, setting one of the cups down on the desk in front of him.

Leon took a sip of his tea. A sweet, slightly tart, and refreshing flavor slid smoothly down his throat.

"Hm?" He flicked his tongue, sensing something unusual but couldn't quite identify what it was.

Still, he didn't think much of it and continued drinking until the cup was empty.

Once satisfied, he set the cup down and turned to Zelda, who was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"The problem you're referring to… the World Tree, isn't it?" Leon guessed.

"Yes, that's right," Zelda said, unsurprised by his guess. It would have been odd if he didn't know.

"Tomorrow, the gate to the Sacred Altar will open. That's when we can enter the altar and communicate with the World Tree Spirit."

Her voice faded, but Leon already understood.

"I see." Leon nodded casually with a smile. "You want me to communicate with the World Tree Spirit and help remove the dark power inside, right?"

Zelda's face flushed, and her eyes reflected a hint of guilt.

Leon noticed immediately and reassured her, "Don't worry. One of the reasons I came to the Elven territory was precisely to meet the World Tree Spirit. She's the ancestor of the current Demon Empress, and there are many things I need to discuss with her."

"Helping her with the matter is my responsibility. You don't need to feel guilty."

Hearing that, Zelda breathed a sigh of relief. She had been afraid Leon might think she was only using him—and she truly didn't want that.

After all, they had been sharing the same bed and talking almost every day for over a week now.

It would be a lie to say she didn't have feelings for Leon.

Seeing how intelligent he was and how kind he treated Elina and the other elves only made those feelings grow stronger.

"Thank you, Leon," Zelda said sincerely, bowing her head slightly.

Leon simply waved her off and slowly stood up. "No need to think about it. Now, let's get some rest."

Zelda lifted her head, wearing a sweet smile. "Okay~"

With that, they climbed into bed and lay down side by side.

Unlike the first night—when they still needed a bolster pillow as a barrier—they no longer used it.

Neither of them thought about what might happen come morning.

Perhaps this was what the saying meant: "It's awkward at first, but you get used to it over time."

"I'll turn off the light, okay?"

"Um!"

Leon pressed the small magic circle beside his bed. Instantly, the room went dark, bathed only in soft moonlight streaming through the window.

There was no more conversation—only the sound of Zelda's gentle breathing.

But just as Leon was about to close his eyes, a sudden chill ran down his spine. His heart started pounding unnaturally fast.

"This isn't good!"
