Modern World Warlock-Chapter 283: The Undead Warlock
After Cerberus transformed into his three-headed appearance, the harpion twins stepped back and got closer to Camille.
The fully bandaged warlock stared at Cerberus for a few seconds before turning his head toward the handler.
While Camille couldn't tell what the man was thinking since his face was entirely covered up, the twins raised their arms and stood firmly in front of the handler.
"You are not touching Cami!" Amara shouted.
"Me? Am I this guy's target?" Camille asked the kids.
"Mhmm, he wants to kill everyone except you!" Asher clarified.
At that moment, Camille remembered her talk with Netherius at the Stellar Reunion, where the man proposed to her in exchange for peace between the mafia factions, and deduced that the necromancer wanted to capture her alive to make her his pawn.
When the enemy warlock tried to attack Cerberus, a wall of hellfire appeared around the massive three-headed dog, pushing the man back as he waved his hand to make the fire dissipate before it could burn him.
'This is bad… If that guy is a warlock, then Cerberus is at a disadvantage,' Camille thought.
The handler reminisced about a conversation she had with Dante a few months ago when the warlock explained that fights between mages and warriors in his old world were similar to rock-paper-scissors.
Dante's specialty was killing demons, but fighting a wizard was trickier for him since they used a completely different type of energy.
Even a powerful mage could be defeated by a much weaker opponent as long as they used a spell that could easily counter their magic.
Seeing that Cerberus and the twins were demons, Camille understood that the warlock had the advantage in the fight.
Still, the demons were aware of this same fact themselves, but that didn't deter them from fighting back and protecting Camille.
When Cerberus rushed head-on toward the bandaged warlock, their clash caused an explosion that shattered the wall next to them as they were launched into the inner courtyard of the mansion.
Cerberus' heads produced different kinds of magic from their mouths, with the one in the center being responsible for all the hellfire that was being cast around them.
The left head had shadowy, black energy coming from his mouth, and the right head seemed to be producing some kind of green gas that seeped out of his growling teeth.
As the left head opened its mouth, a large, looming shadow appeared beneath the warlock, prompting him to move away before dozens of black spikes extruded from it.
Pointing his palm at Cerberus, another wave of destruction was shot his way, which was instantly deflected by a shadow wall that appeared from the ground.
The warlock rushed to the three-headed dog's right side, only to be met with a powerful poison breath that came from its right head. Nonetheless, the enemy took the hit while also casting "Obliterate," pushing each other away.
Camille, who was worriedly watching the encounter, noticed a gaping hole on the dog's torso with blood dripping on the ground, making her grit her teeth in frustration.
Still, the handler wasn't the only one feeling that way, as the twins were getting angrier by the second when they saw Cerberus' injury.
After the enemy warlock placed his hand on his head, he produced a strange mist that seemed to be healing the poison he inhaled from Cerberus, promptly advancing for another attack right as he finished.
In the blink of an eye, before the warlock could reach Cerberus, the twins appeared beside him and waved their claws downwards with all their might, creating slices of pure umbra that traveled at least ten meters in front of them, forcing the warlock to retreat a few steps.
Camille had seen the kids laughing and having a good time while dismembering the ghouls. However, now that they were facing the warlock, the twins' expressions were focused and serious.
Truthfully, it was the best time for Camille to keep running with Dante, but the idea of leaving the twins and Cerberus alone with the enemy didn't sit right with her.
She knew that she was acting based on her own emotions, but Camille had never been afraid to make decisions dictated by her feelings, as she believed that her gut was right most of the time.
The three of them kept fighting and exchanging blows against the bandaged warlock, and while Cerberus' attacks were wearing their opponent down, the twins were being slapped and thrown around the courtyard like rag dolls.
At one point, Camille couldn't hold back and took out a small revolver that was hidden in the back of her dress, shooting numerous rounds at the warlock before he could keep attacking the twins.
Nonetheless, her efforts were to no avail, as the warlock could sense Camille's aggression before she could shoot, allowing him to easily evade the bullets.
Suddenly, as soon as the warlock stepped on the ground, Cerberus' middle head opened its mouth, and a giant hellfire pillar appeared right on top of the enemy warlock, scorching some of his clothing.
The wholly bandaged man covered his body in umbra to protect himself from the heat, and the twins followed up the attack by flanking the man from both sides.
The twins believed that even if the warlock defended himself against one of them, the other sibling would land their attack. However, when they raised their claws, they felt a sudden force that pushed them away at incredible speeds back inside the mansion's hallway.
When Camille hastily ran towards the children to check on them, she noticed that Asher was missing an arm that he used to protect himself, and Amara had both of her legs broken.
*Sob* "Cami…" Amara muttered as tears rolled down her eyes from both pain and embarrassment.
"I… Want to protect Cami and big brother," Asher said, squinting and wobbling his head as the boy was clearly dizzy by the powerful attack they received.
Still, their despair had only begun, as the three of them heard a loud explosion followed by the whimpers of Cerberus, prompting Camille to turn around with a hateful expression.
As her eyes landed on the three-headed dog, she saw that his right head had been blown off, and Cerberus was lying down in utter pain while the warlock slowly made his way back inside the mansion.
