Mated To The Cruel Prince-Chapter 59: He Hurt Her
Chapter 59: He Hurt Her
"Very well, then," Aldric breathed, "It seems you have made up your mind, Issac." He lifted his hand and traced his face, his hand finally resting at his temple.
Issac shivered at the caress, recognizing that move as his signature touch of death. He would get into his mind and shut him down from the inside out and not even the mental walls he put up would save him. Perhaps it was better he died this way than the prince using his dark magic on him. He heard that it felt like being burned alive, hopefully, he won’t feel this one and have a peaceful death.
"What a pity, we could have done so much together," Adric tutted to himself, both hands now resting on his temple, "But don’t worry, I would make this quick."
Issac groaned as he felt a sudden pressure in his head that made him dizzy and nauseous. He groaned, sliding down against the wall and Aldric moved with him, his hands pressed tightly to his skull and his attention focused.
A silent scream erupted from his mouth as the building pressure in his head blinded him. He scratched and pushed at Aldric’s hands all to no avail, the prince had a strong grip on his mind and wouldn’t let go. Issac gasped for breath and just when he thought his head was going to explode, someone interrupted them.
"That’s enough!"
The connection was broken and Aldric let go of his head, turning to see who had interrupted him.
He smirked, "Nice of you to finally join us, Maximus."
"It’s Maxi," She hissed, stepping into view.
"Really, I didn’t know you play favorites now and here I was thinking I was your one and only." Aldric was teasing her and Maxi knew that because she ignored him and demanded,
"Let go of Isaac, he’s not going to say a word." frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Oh, sweetheart," Adric drawled with a sickly sweet tone, "You know I can’t do that. I can’t have him spilling my plans."
"Everyone in the kingdom of Astaria knows you plan to seize the throne if given the chance. Which is why they don’t trust you, else why would your father, the king, keep you away from the palace?"
At the mention of his father, King Oberon, Aldric’s eyes darkened and there was tension in his body. Had it been someone else who spoke to him that way, he would have ended that person already, but this was Maximus, or Maxi - as she claimed, not that he has acknowledged that yet. The both of them shared a special bond - one that the others could not understand.
"Indeed, they don’t know how I intend to achieve that plan yet." He turned and pointed at Isaac, "But he does."
"It’s just a small piece of your greater plans, Aldric, you always have a plan B for everything. Issac does not intend to harm you, he’s only blindly loyal to the kingdom and its progress. He has a family back home, who wouldn’t want to protect their loved ones?"
Aldric stopped and stared at her with narrowed eyes before crossing to her. He said with utmost disgust,
"It’s just a few days and yet you have grown attached to him. What happens to getting rid of him if he gets in the way of our plan? What happened between the both of you? Do you like him already?"
But Maxi did not answer his question, rather she said, "You gifted him to me, didn’t you? In one word, he’s my responsibility. So why are you trying to get rid of my responsibility without my consent? I have been loyal to you all through the years, Aldric, but I didn’t ask you to fight my battles. Issac belongs to me and so I deal with him. " She said firmly, not letting out any emotions that would confirm his claims that she had feelings for Issac.
Aldric doesn’t do feelings.
They both stared each other down after the argument until Aldric broke the gaze. He turned to Issac who stared at both of them unsure, knowing his life hung in the balance.
"Fine," He gave in, "He’s yours to deal with. You can have him."
Maxi slowly expelled the breath she had no idea that she had been holding in. Her appearance was hidden in the hood of her cloak as well and she moved to help the Issac to his feet when Aldric added,
"However, if I have reason to suspect that Issac is working against me, then he won’t have an easy death, whether he belongs to you or not."
Maxi had been holding onto Issac’s hand when Aldric spoke and her eyes connected with his. He shuddered, the tremor running through her so she felt it. However, she tightened her grip on him and pulled Issac to his feet, notwithstanding the threat from her master, Aldric.
"You don’t have to worry, it wouldn’t come to that," Maxi said confidently, even though she had no assurance Issac wouldn’t betray them.
To Issac, Aldric told him, "Don’t think of following me again if you don’t want to lose a part of your precious body and prove to the entire Fae realm that I’m the monster they take me to be, unable to spare even my own guard."
Isaac did not answer him but the subtle lowering of his head was enough proof he wouldn’t be attempting such anytime soon.
"Come. We should leave. " Maxi took Issac’s hand and tugged him along, about to leave when Aldric shouted,
"Wait."
Heart pounding, Issac wondered what he did wrong this time as Aldric trudged towards them. With each second it took to get to him, Issac felt like he couldn’t breathe. He had only heard of Aldric’s prowess and cruelty until today when he got to witness it firsthand. But to his surprise, Aldric leaned towards Maxi and whispered something into her ears.
Something must be wrong with his hearing because even his sensitive Fae hearing couldn’t pick up what the prince said and the way Maxi’s eyes flickered to him and widened afterwards made him uncomfortable. Without a doubt, they discussed him.
What did Aldric say to her about him? It bothered him. Since he couldn’t kill him in the open, has Aldric threatened Maxi to kill him in secret? But even as he thought it, Issac knew inwardly that it was not the case. Aldric was not the type to let others clean up after him, he liked the bloodshed.
What did he say then to Maxi? It oddly gnawed at his consciousness.
"See you later, little Maxi," He waved at her, and to Issac, and he announced, "Quite a nice name." He grinned at him as if nothing happened moments ago and the both of them were back to being friends.
Issac was dumbfounded momentarily before it was replaced by anger that coursed through his veins. Was the prince playing games with him too? He could never understand his reasons for what he does. No wonder, dark Fae were hunted down and killed, and in the prince’s case, disconnected from society.
Before Issac could think of doing anything stupid, Maxi grabbed his arm and already pulled him away from the scene. It wasn’t until they were out in the open that he snatched his arm from her grasp, reminding himself that she too was like the prince.
A dark Fae.
Why had she saved him? Issac had no idea but it was obvious that it was for her selfish reasons. She would probably want to collect on the favor soon. If the dark prince wanted to covet the throne and she served him, then it would be in her favor.
The both of them dressed in a cloak and walking in a human market in broad daylight was not exactly inconspicuous, hence Issac did not say anything and walked ahead. But she caught up to him and they walked in silence until they arrived at the inn.
"What were you thinking standing up to Aldric like that?! Do you wish for a death sentence or what?!" Maxi shouted at him as soon as they came in, closing the door behind her.
Issac rounds on her, "What do you expect me to do, huh? He’s going to bring our kingdom into ruins, all for what? To take back a throne that can’t be his?"
"And you think standing up to him would change anything? You would risk your life for that?!"
"Astaria cannot go to war!" He raised his voice at her, the veins on his neck bulging with rage.
"And you want him to do what?! Tell me, Issac! What do you expect Aldric to do? He has no one on his side, not his mother! His father! Siblings! The only thing that he can hold onto is his pride and throne. The throne is all he has left, Issac. If you were in his position, what would you do?!"
"I know I wouldn’t be selfish enough to cause a war that would end millions of lives."He spat," But then, what would you know? You’re a dark Fae, after all?"
And Issac knew he messed up when he saw the way Maxi flinched from his words, the hurt spreading across her features.
"No, I don’t mean...." He tried to explain but Maxi walked out of the room without a word.
