Chapter 180: THE CLOSING CURTAIN (1)

KIM HEEDO wasn’t nervous dealing with Song Sihyuk, even though Song Sihyuk was a dangerous man.

However, Park Sohee’s sharp glare scared him a little.

"Sihyuk Hyung-nim, I’m putting you on loudspeaker," Heedo said, sighing. He wouldn’t be able to talk to Song Sihyuk properly if Park Sohee was looking at him like that. "I’m with Sohee Hyung."

"Go ahead. I’m already expecting that. You act like your husband’s lap dog anyway."

Heedo was supposed to be offended because Song Sihyuk was clearly insulting him.

However, he didn’t feel offended.

"Is being my husband’s a lap dog supposed to be an insult?"

Heedo only realized that he said that stupid thought out loud when Park Sohee and Shin Kang looked at him in disbelief.

Ahem.

He avoided the two’s gazes and pressed the loudspeaker button on, just in time to hear Song Sihyuk’s response to his slip of the tongue earlier.

"This is why I can’t hate you, Kim Heedo— I respect Alphas like you who are obsessed with their Omegas."

Now Heedo felt offended.

And he wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

"Sihyuk-ssi, please don’t lump my husband in with the likes of you," Park Sohee said, scoffing. The older man was clearly insulted on behalf of Heedo. "My husband isn’t a crazy bastard like you. He may have hurt me in the past, but he properly apologized for everything. Unlike a certain someone who doesn’t even know what he did wrong to his spouse, Kim Heedo knows when he fucks up. Then he does his best to make it up to me and make sure that he won’t make the same mistake again."

Aww.

Heedo felt touched that Park Sohee was standing up for him.

I guess we really have a good relationship.

But, on the other hand, he felt scared for Park Sohee.

"Park Sohee-ssi, I admire your bravery. You’re one of the few people who have the guts to talk to me that way."

See?

This was why Heedo was scared for Park Sohee.

Hence, he intervened.

"Sihyuk Hyung-nim, let’s stop wasting time. We have something more important to discuss, right?"

"Ah, yes. I was informed by my subordinates that you harmed my husband before kidnapping him."

"I’m not like you, Hyung-nim."

"Then explain why my husband coughed up blood. Lim Garam is healthy— he has no sickness that will cause him to cough up blood, so it must be caused by something else. Since it’s obvious that you planned to kidnap my husband and my kid, you must have fed him some pills to knock him out. In that way, you were able to distract my subordinates by pretending that you’d bring Lim Garam to the hospital."

Oho?

Heedo was impressed by Song Sihyuk’s deduction.

As expected of a villain.

"Sihyuk-ssi, what made you think that we were the ones who planned this kidnapping?" Park Sohee asked, scoffing. "Has it not occurred to you that this might be Garam Hyung-nim’s plan?"

Aigoo.

Heedo didn’t know whether to admire Park Sohee or scold him for provoking Song Sihyuk.

Either way, Sohee Hyung is cool.

"We didn’t hurt Garam Hyung-nim in any way," Park Sohee said, obviously annoyed. "Baby Gunwoo is also safe. If you can’t trust us, then we can give the phone to Garam Hyung-nim."

"If I ask you to do that, are you going to ask me to show the little brats to you?"

"No, there’s no need for that," Park Sohee said coldly. "I don’t care whether you’ve beaten up Sanha-ssi and Lee Junsu. But you can’t kill them."

Heedo felt a shiver down his spine.

He couldn’t believe that Park Sohee could be this cold and cruel.

But, having said that, he still couldn’t find it in his heart to hate his husband.

Sohee Hyung is being a bad person, so why do I still feel drawn to him?

"As long as you give them back to us alive, then I’ll convince Garam Hyung-nim to come back to you, Sihyuk-ssi."

Heedo felt like he was going to have a heart attack.

Park Sohee was so good at provoking Song Sihyuk.

"Convince my husband to return to me? Park Sohee-ssi, you make it sound like my husband ran away from home."

Park Sohee opened his mouth to speak, but Heedo quickly covered his husband’s mouth with his hand while giving him an apologetic look.

I’m sorry, Hyung, but Sihyuk Hyung-nim is someone you don’t want to mess with.

"Sihyuk Hyung-nim, you know we won’t hurt Garam Hyung-nim and Gunwoo," Heedo said firmly. "Let’s set up the date and time to exchange ’hostages.’"

***

SO, THE location was a small private island owned by Song Sihyuk.

I didn’t even know you’re allowed to own islands in that province.

Sohee didn’t know if he should be impressed or scared by how much power the chaebols had over the country.

I thought the dramas I watch exaggerate how chaebols live, but it’s pretty close.

"Hyung, I’ll go alone."

Sohee glared at Kim Heedo. "Are you crazy?"

"I’m not saying I’m going on my own," Kim Heedo explained right away. "I’ll bring Shin Kang and enough bodyguards. I’m saying I’m not bringing you with me, Sohee-ya."

"So, you’ve really gone crazy."

"Hyung, you’re pregnant."

Tsk.

Sohee couldn’t refute that.

To be honest, it wasn’t like he would risk it either. But that didn’t mean he didn’t have a plan prepared. He already expected everyone to be overprotective of him since he was pregnant.

I’m touched, but it’s not like I can’t move anymore.

"Heedo-ya, when you made that post-nuptial agreement, your lawyer had me check all the properties you owned that would eventually fall into my hands in case we had a divorce," Sohee explained. "I know you also have a private island near Song Sihyuk’s private island."

"Hyung, I think I already know what you’re trying to say—"

"Shut up and listen to me."

Kim Heedo’s lips formed a thin line.

"I’m going to stay there with a team of bodyguards to keep me safe," Sohee said firmly, crossing his arms over his chest. "But I’m coming with you."

"Hyung, please don’t be stubborn," Kim Heedo said sternly. "You have a baby in your womb. Why would you go to a dangerous place when you’re pregnant?"

"You’ll be there."

"What?"

"You’ll be there, so protect me and our baby," Sohee said firmly. "That’s your job as the head of the family."

"I’m asking you to stay here because it’s safer here, Hyung— this is how I do my job as the head of the family."

"Well, I don’t like it. So, we’re doing it my way."

Kim Heedo sighed and pressed the bridge of his nose as if he were getting stressed out. "Hyung..."

"I’ll talk to Garam Hyung-nim," Sohee said, turning his back on his husband. "Good night, Heedo-ya."

***

"GARAM HYUNG-NIM, are you comfortable here?" Sohee asked worriedly. "How about Gunwoo-ya?"

Earlier, Lim Garam talked to President Kang Nari and Vice Chairman Kim Dohan over coffee.

I think my in-laws ensured Garam Hyung-nim and Gunwoo’s safety while they’re with us.

After that, Lim Garam and Gunwoo were escorted to the guest room.

When Sohee got there, Baby Gunwoo was already asleep.

He was about to leave, but Lim Garam insisted that he stay.

Hence, that was how they ended up talking in the lounge area of the guest room.

"Yes, your family made sure we’re comfortable," Lim Garam said, smiling. "The twins even played with Gunwoo before they went to bed."

Aww.

"I’m relieved to hear that," Sohee said, and then he got serious. "Hyung-nim, everything is set. The location, the time where the exchange is happening, etc."

"I see," Lim Garam said calmly while nodding. "Was Sihyuk Hyung mad?"

"Yes, and I provoked him."

"Huh?"

"I got upset with the way he talked to Heedo. I’m sorry, Hyung-nim. I couldn’t help it."

"What did you say to Sihyuk Hyung?"

"I implied that you ran away from home, and that we just helped you escape."

Lim Garam blinked rapidly as if he was confused, and then he laughed. "Sohee-ya, my husband isn’t a good person. And since you’re not a chaebol, he won’t hesitate to have his revenge against you. Of course, he won’t kill you or seriously harm you since you’re still Kim Heedo’s husband. But he’ll still find ways to annoy you."

"I’m kind of expecting that already, but I’m fine," Sohee said. "I know Kim Heedo will protect me."

"I love the trust that you have for your husband even though he lost his memories," Lim Garam said, pausing. "I know you agreed to save Lee Junsu because Sanha said Heedo won’t recover his memories if Lee Junsu dies. But is that really okay with you, Sohee-ya?"

"Of course not, Hyung-nim."

"I thought so."

"That’s why I insisted that I’ll come with him tomorrow. I don’t want to give Lee Junsu the chance to appeal to Heedo. It’s not that I don’t trust my husband. But it’s better to be safe than sorry. After all, Heedo isn’t in the right state of mind."

"Did Heedo agree to bring you with him even though it’s dangerous?" Lim Garam asked, knitting his eyebrows. "Sohee-ya, you’re pregnant."

"I insisted, then I told Heedo to protect me and our baby if he doesn’t want something bad to happen to us," Sohee said while gently rubbing his stomach. "And I can tell that he got the message."

That was what Sohee thought, but...

***

"THEY ALREADY left?!" Sohee asked in disbelief. "They left me behind?!"

Kim Haewon and Kim Hanhae, the ones who broke the news to him, flinched.

Kim Heedo and the others had already left for Jeju...

... and nobody bothered to wake him up.

I set an alarm, but it didn’t go off.

Or maybe...

"It’s on purpose. They left me behind because they didn’t want me there," Sohee said, still in disbelief. Then he clenched his hands tightly. "Kim Heedo, I’m going to slap you with divorce papers if you come home with so much as a scratch!"
