Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?-Chapter 1301: Naturally Callous
’I...feel like I shouldn’t be surprised by these statements...but also, what the hell?’
When Zhen Liu saw that Olstenna had blown open Splatter’s chest and had destroyed the kaijin’s [Core] in the process, he was expecting some form of negative backlash from the Kaijin and their creator.
He expected the Kaijin in the crowd to shout out insults, to release cries of pain and anger over the fact that one of their own had just been cruelly killed in such a strange manner.
At least, that’s what would happen if one of his own Kaijin got injured. The rest of them would fly into a blind rage over such things.
Zhen Liu expected Splatter’s creator, the "Kaijin Lord" sitting to his right, to get angry, mournful, just...something that would signify that he had cared for the death of the giant toad-like Kaijin.
Zhen Liu witnessed none of these.
No cries of sorrow.
No shouts of rage.
Not even a single iota of caring that one of his "invincible warriors", had just been thoroughly slain like a dog in the arena.
Instead, all he saw was the "Kaijin Lord" leaning forward and make some comment about how interesting it was to see how Olstenna had managed to slay one of his Kaijin.
"How curious."
As for the crowd of Kaijin, he heard jeers and lament over the fact that Splatter’s [Core] had gone to waste.
That nobody amongst them has the opportunity to swallow it for themselves and gain Splatter’s power for their own.
And what’s worst, they didn’t even seem to care that Splatter had turned back into his original form before dying a slow death.
[What a waste, what a waste!]
[Stupid bastard could’ve at least gotten killed closer to the stands. That way, we could’ve salvage his power for our own.]
[And now he’s nothing more than a normal giant toad again. How sad.]
At this point, Zhen Liu was fairly certain that every Kaijin in this mine was beyond sociopathic by design, and that the "Kaijin Lord" here was the reason why they were all like this.
Of course, Zhen Liu was only speculating...until he heard the following statement coming out of the kaijin’s lord mouth.
"Well that’s a pity and a half. I figured that when Splatter was forced apart like that, he would at least attempt to coordinate with the others. Oh well. Too bad I can’t reuse his [Core] on a different beast."
"What the..."
"But I suppose, now is a good a time as any to bring out the experimental fighters," the Kaijin Lord stated while sipping on a drink from the refreshment table. "I think you’ll find some hope in what’s about to happen next. Most of these new fighters were people unable to properly cultivate aether, just like you!"
"..."
In this exact moment, Zhen Liu wanted to do nothing more than shove that cup down this guy’s throat and then smash while he was in the midst of choking on it.
’Huh...this is the first time in a long time I wanted soemone to actually die by my hands for once...wait...fuck am I being affected by this guy’s [Chaos] aura?!,’ Zhen Liu mentally screamed. ’Also, did this motherfucker put [Cores] into people?!’
...Meanwhile back on the arena floor...
’Huh...so that’s what’s supposed to happen...interesting.’
When Olstenna destroyed Splatter’s [Core], all he knew was that it would spell the end of this weird enemy Kaijin.
He did not expect for Splatter to change back into a giant toad with a noticeable hole in its chest.
Shortly after this transformation though, the giant toad proceeded to croak for one last time in its very short life.
As the beast fell, the watching slaves couldn’t believe their eyes.
"It...it’s actually possible to defeat them? To destroy their cores?"
^Am I dreaming?^
~I hope not...~
Unfortunately, their growing hopes soon gave way to despair, as the MC Kaijin of the arena let out a deep growl that rocked their ears and grabbed the attention of everyone in the arena.
[Well, shit. Looks like Splatter got splattered, how tragic,] the MC Kaijin announced in a sarcastic tone. [But on the plus side, we got Pecker and Tusk back. Yay.]
[Meh.]
[Boo...]
[Pecker owes me an eyeball!]
Evidently, the slaves in the ring couldn’t help but be a little perturbed by the Kaijins reaction to their slain ally and the return of two missing allies. Then again, they were trying to apply normal empathetic logic to a bunch of monsters.
[But don’t worry you fucking freaks of nature,] the MC called out. [They’re not going to be participating in the games. Instead, that honor is going to go to our newcomers.]
[Newcomers?]
"Did he just say newcomers?"
^Uh oh,^ Lythero uttered as soon as he sensed the presence of unusually strong [Chaos] pouring out of opposites of the fighting pit. ^I don’t like where this is going.^
[Uh..."
^...guh...]
^Oh what the fuck...^
From opposite sides of the arena entered a pair of heavily mutilated and odd-looking slaves.
One was clearly a working woman in her last life, as evident by the scars and marks that could only appear when someone had been forced to work several times over their limit. Judging from the scars, she was someone who had been sold for the sake squeezing out just a little more profit.
As for the other slave, they appeared to be a man. At least, that’s what people assumed due to them being covered head-to-toe in filthy bandages that did little to hide their diseased flesh from the public eye.
Neither of these slaves appeared related in any way shape or form, save for one shared feature.
Jutting out of their chests like an Aetherii soul crystal, was single golden orb that greatly resembled the [Core] that Olstenna had just crushed.
The moment Olstenna and Lythero saw these [Cores], shivers ran up and down their spines. Although, for very different reasons.
The former was excited for what he was feeling to be an interesting battle, while the latter was freaking out.
He had heard how Zhen Liu and the kaijin fought the Grafted, human warriors with the body parts of Kaijin installed onto themselves, and these slaves were looking a lot like how he had described them. Although, they appeared to be significantly more...unbalanced in comparison to what he was told about the previously mentioned ones.
Lythero began to instinctively reach for his swords at the thought of a drastic battle about to occur, but faltered when he remembered that his only two remaining swords had been taken away from him.
^Shit!^
As such, he was forced to only rely on his [Astra] to deal with the incoming threat.
[Now then, my fellow crimes against nature, as you can see, the boss has tried to see if it was possible uplift the chattel into becoming our fellows. I’m not sure if they’ll be able to put up a fight, but it might improve their taste at least.]
At this crude joke, the Kaijin in the stands began to snicker and laugh.
[But a most interesting idea was shared with the boss from one of the leaders. He had asked if it was possible for these human uplifts to absorb cores like how we can,] the MC Kaijin said in a strangely sinister voice. [Although, nobody here wanted to volunteer. Until now.]
^Wait...^
The next thing anyone knew, the MC Kaijin suddenly used a [Chaos] art to bind both Pecker and Tusk to the ground...seconds before he ripped open their chests and exposed their cores to the open air like how Splatter was moments ago.
[Now, I don’t know if you uplifted humans can understand me, but that right there is your ticket to—]
[MINE!]×2
[—NEVER MIND, LOOK AT THEM GO!]
As soon as their attention was directed towards the cores, both the former prostitute and the heavily injured man rushed towards Tusk and Pecker, respectively, like they were possessed by malevolent forces...which they were.
[Gak!]
[GRK!]
Like zombies, the strange slaves with golden cores in their chest began to tear into Pecker and Tusk in order to pull out their [Cores]. Once it was in their hands, and the bodies of Tusk and Pecker began to disappear into nothingness once more, the injured slaves swallowed them like they were miraculous medicinal pills.
In a sense, they were, but the side effects were even worse.
Shortly after the [Cores] went down the gullets, the two slaves became incredibly still...as [Chaos] began to pour out of them like water flowing out of a broken jug.
[Oooh, can you lot feel that?! Looks like uplifted humans can absorb cores as well! I wonder how much they’ll change?!]
As the [Chaos] pouring out of them became thicker and thicker, the bodies of the slaves suddenly began to twist, contort and grow...as a start.
Shortly after they had both doubled in size, the slaves began to develop more... unique features.
Features that resemble the previous Kaijin...plus a little more.
