Chapter 2544: Something Happened
Zu An was dressed up by the people around him like a puppet. He had never thought that marriage could be this complicated. In particular, the bridegroom's robe was astoundingly complicated. All kinds of gold accessories were put on him. If not for him being stronger than ordinary humans, he would have been crushed under their sheer weight.
He had heard from the Chang clansmen that the more accessories the bridegroom wore, the more earnest he was in marrying the bride. Since this symbolized the Chang clan’s sincerity, he respected their tradition and went along with whatever they wanted.
Soon, it was evening. He was dragged out for the marriage rites.
Much to his surprise, the marriage rites weren't conducted inside a room, but rather at a square. Chang clansmen, from the old to the young, were gathered in the square, each dressed in celebratory clothes. The women had beaming smiles as they eyed Zu An with curiosity.
In contrast, the men looked depressed. They glared at Zu An with envious and hateful eyes.
Looking at the Rage points surging into his system, Zu An was awed by the Mermaid Queen, or rather Chang’e’s, popularity once more. Do they like her that much? We’re getting married. Shouldn’t they let it go?
A few of them tried to screw with him while dressing up, but Zu An was no longer the type of person to lose his temper at a couple of youths.
Just then, he heard exclamations. A commotion broke out among the youths as they turned to look in the same direction.
The crowd opened up, and a beautiful figure slowly emerged under the support of the Chang clan’s ladies. Her figure looked like a sculpted masterpiece. Not even the majestic bridal clothes could conceal her beautiful curves. Her waist lightly swayed as she walked, bringing a spring breeze to the hearts of the youths and elders present. The crowd was mesmerized.
In the Chang clan’s traditions, the bride wore a tiara with bead curtains obscuring her face instead of a red veil. This made her look even more alluring. Her fair skin, contrasted against her red bridal gown, looked so dewy that it could leak water. She shyly eyed Zu An with eyes overflowing with bliss.
When Zu An met her gaze, he felt as if flowers had blossomed all over the world. Even the moon wanes in shame when compared against such beauty. Idioms to describe beauty surfaced in his head, but he lamented his lacking literary ability to relay just how enchanted he was.
Before they knew it, they were already standing before each other. The thought of being a couple with her loved one filled the Mermaid Queen with so much bliss that she didn’t think there was a need for her to return to her previous world anymore. This is fine too.
Zu An looked at the blush on her fair skin, which looked as if someone had applied a layer of rouge on smooth jade. What beauty.
The old chieftain hosted the ceremony. Marriage ceremonies in this era were much simpler. There was no need to bow to the heaven and the earth; the only one they had to pay respect to was Lady Houtu.
It could be her overthinking it, but when she was paying respect to the latter, the Mermaid Queen seemed to see a smile on Lady Houtu’s face.
Zu An couldn’t help but think that Lady Houtu’s standing in the Shaman races was much higher than that of the other Ancestral Shamans.
Next, they paid respect to their respective clans’ totems.
The Chang clan’s totem was a full moon. Zu An thought that explained the pictures of full moons throughout the Chang clan. He was reminded of the legend regarding Chang’e and the moon and frowned. I wonder if Chang’e will elope to the moon in this world.
The Youqiong clan’s totem was a giant bow. Known for their archery prowess, they naturally worshiped the bow and arrow. That wasn't too surprising.
Zu An thought the next step was for the couple to bow to each other, but that wasn't part of the rites. Instead, the two of them were told to link their hands together and dance for the crowd.
Being asked to dance before a crowd all of a sudden was extremely awkward, but fortunately, the Mermaid Queen was highly skilled at dancing. She naturally guided him to the campfire at the center of the square and began dancing. Cheers erupted from the crowd.
Feeling the Mermaid Queen’s tender eyes and the vibrant atmosphere, Zu An gradually immersed himself in the dance and matched her movements impeccably.
That drove the atmosphere to a new high. Young men began approaching the ladies they were interested in to ask them for a dance. Joy radiated from the entire Chang clan.
After the dance, the Mermaid Queen was escorted into the consummation room. Zu An wanted to follow her there, as there were too many things he wanted to say to her. frёewebηovel.cѳm
However, the Chang clan’s youths didn’t let him off the hook and swarmed him with toasts instead.
Zu An was at a loss for words. It was one thing for the men to hinder him out of jealousy, but why were the women joining the commotion too? Some of the bolder ones even used intoxication as an excuse to throw themselves at him and touch him. He would have exploded in rage had he not known that the Chang clan meant no malice.
One bowl after another, he drank a lot of wine. The Chang clan’s wine was much stronger than anything he had ever drunk before. He secretly used his ki to expel the alcohol from his system, but even so, he still remained mildly intoxicated. These wines were made for cultivators; if not for him having undergone the heavenly tribulation, he would have been knocked out here.
One after another, the Chang clan’s youths collapsed after having drunk too much.
Zu An was finally free. He first looked for the mildly intoxicated chieftain to ask about Yi’s murderer, but the latter replied with a chuckle, “Today is a joyous occasion. Let’s not talk about inauspicious things. Go to the consummation room. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
The chieftain then continued chatting up a group of older women with thick makeup, making them burst into laughter.
Black streaks appeared on Zu An’s face. This old fellow is so wild... Looks like he’s still worried about me turning my back on the Chang clan after learning about the culprit. He wants to make sure that the deal is sealed first. Knowing that the Mermaid Queen was waiting for him in the consummation room, his mind heated up. He decided to stop holding back and make his way there.
When he opened the door, the Mermaid Queen was sitting upright on the bed. His staggering movements prompted her to quickly rush over to support him. “Why did you drink so much?”
“Those men went all out to make me drunk because they don’t want me to share the night with their dream lover. Too bad they underestimated me,” Zu An said gleefully. But as he leaned on the Mermaid Queen’s soft body, he suddenly felt drunk once more.
“Suyin, you’re so beautiful,” he said as he gently pried open her bead curtains.
The Mermaid Queen averted her gaze out of shyness. “Are you still going to call me Suyin now...”
Zu An understood what she was getting at. “My wife!”
“My husband~” The Mermaid Queen’s voice was coy and sugary sweet.
It numbed Zu An’s mind. Unable to take it anymore, he leaned in for a kiss.
As she lay weakly in his arms, the Mermaid Queen moaned.
All their previous hesitations about them being from different worlds and not having a future together were tossed to the back of their minds. Right now, they just wanted to vent the passion in their hearts and become one.
After kissing for a long time, Zu An’s hands began scaling the snowy mountain to explore the scenery that countless experts only dreamed about. As his hands slid down to her belt, however, he suddenly thought of something and stopped. It looked as if he was going to retract his hand.
The Mermaid Queen grabbed his hand and quietly looked at him with a reddened face.
She didn’t have to say a word; her gaze said it all. Zu An cast aside his final sliver of hesitation and lightly tugged on the belt, causing her red bridal gown to unravel like a blossoming rose, revealing the most beautiful sight in the world.
Zu An’s breathing quickened. The two of them naturally embraced...
A dull harrumph suddenly echoed. Zu An immediately straightened up and vigilantly looked outside the window.
“What’s wrong?” The Mermaid Queen shyly tugged his arm, not knowing why he had suddenly stopped at this juncture. For a moment there, she even doubted her own charm. How could he stop now? Am I that unattractive? Do I have to take the initiative each time? But it’s so embarrassing!
She consoled herself by thinking about how intimate they already were. She could already feel the manifestation of his lust. It can’t be because of my lack of charm. Could he be concerned about something else?
Ah, now that I think about it, I haven’t seen the Fiend races’ Saintess. Is it because of her...
While she was feeling disheartened, Zu An took a deep breath and said, “Something happened!”
