753 -753: Maitreya: Ksitigarbha, Let Me Go

All of Jiang Liu’s control type skills had been ineffective against beings with Quasi-Saint Cultivation, as these skills involved the comprehension of rules.

Those with the Quasi-Saint Cultivation, to some extent, had already grasped some of these rules, which made it difficult to affect them.

But now, Jiang Liu had also reached the level of Quasi-Saint himself, even achieving Level 100.

So, could these original rule-based skills be effective now?

As he cast the Dispel Curse skill, a burst of light flashed, and the leaves of the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree, which had bound and immobilized him, gradually began to loosen.

“Indeed!

They can still be effective!”

Jiang Liu could feel a specific rule power in the leaves resisting his Dispel Curse, but he, too, mobilized the power of the rules to counteract that force.

The leaves of the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree indeed loosened, causing Jiang Liu to nod silently to himself.

It seemed that as long as one reached the level of Quasi-Saint, these control type skills could still be effective against other Quasi-Saints.

This was still quite good!

“This is impossible!

How did you manage to do this!?”

Watching Jiang Liu actually manage to release the restraining effect of the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree’s leaves on himself, Maitreya Buddha was somewhat dumbfounded and found it unbelievable.

Though it was just a leaf, after all, this was an Enlightenment Supreme Treasure, and he had managed to unlock it!?

This was something that a Quasi-Saint should not have been able to accomplish!

“Sorry, Buddha…”

Having released the restrictive effect of the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree’s leaves on himself, Jiang Liu’s gaze returned to Maitreya Buddha and he said, “I believe in the saying, ‘the villain dies talking too much,’ so although you have asked me, I’m not going to explain too much to you!”

“Besides, Buddha, you were quite talkative just now; it seems there is some truth to the saying that the villain dies from talking too much!”

“Buddha, it’s time for you to be on your way!”

With his last words, Jiang Liu raised his Absolute Immortal Sword and then fiercely swung it at Maitreya Buddha.

The fearsome Sword Qi appeared again, slashing directly at Maitreya Buddha.

“No!” As the Sword Qi came straight at him, Maitreya Buddha exclaimed in terror.

At this moment, he really had used up all his tricks.

Even the leaves of the Seven Treasures Wonderful Tree could not trap him, Maitreya Buddha thought in disbelief.

With a “pfft” sound!

The terrifying Sword Qi, carrying an aura of obliterating heaven and earth, passed right through Maitreya Buddha’s body, severing him at the waist.

Whoosh, whoosh!

Without stopping, Jiang Liu swung his Absolute Immortal Sword two more times, slicing Maitreya Buddha’s body into several pieces.

Finally, the Absolute Immortal Sword swung once more.

Swish, swish, swish!

One wave of Sword Qi after another, like a violent storm, appeared densely, falling upon Maitreya Buddha’s body.

In just a moment, like a meat grinder, Maitreya Buddha’s flesh was ground into paste.

At the same time, a wisp of lost soul sorrowfully made its way to the Netherworld.

Tip: Gained 3 billion 600 million Experience Points, gained silver 1.8 million.

Tip: Level increased by 1, current level 71.

Following the killing of Maitreya Buddha, the system notification sounded in Jiang Liu’s mind.

In an instant, 3 billion Experience Points rushed through him like a warm current.

Overtaken with joy, Jiang Liu immediately opened his character panel to check.

Sure enough, his level had reached 71.

From a level perspective, he had officially stepped into the realm of Taiyi True Immortal.

A translucent panel appeared in front of Jiang Liu.

ID: Jiang Liu (Golden)

Gender: Male.

Profession: Compassionate Bodhisattva.

Level: 71 (25.8/26 billion)

Equipment: …

“Hmm, I said it.

I was only about four or five billion shy of reaching Level 71, and it raised just by 1 level.

Looking at this experience bar, I only need about 20 million more Experience Points to reach Level 72!”

Looking at the experience bar in his character panel, Jiang Liu’s face filled with joy as he nodded to himself.

It’s unbelievable, the gap between the levels of Quasi-Saint and Daluo Golden Immortal is indeed huge.

I remember previously, killing a Level 90 target only granted several tens of millions of Experience Points, not even 100 million, right?

But killing Level 93 Maitreya Buddha directly gave 3 billion Experience Points?

This increase in magnitude is a bit terrifying, isn’t it?

Moreover, the amount of money is also high.

1,800,000 taels of silver?

That’s almost as much as the value of an Absolute Immortal Sword!

“Among the Quasi-Saints existing in this universe, there are only about twenty or thirty in total, so each one of them holds extraordinary value.

Is that why the rewards are terrifyingly high?”

Irrespective of whether the difference in Experience Points and money between level 90 and 93 is justified, let’s ask, is the value of Maitreya Buddha at 3 billion Experience Points and 1,800,000 taels of silver high?

On reflection, it doesn’t seem high, does it?

“Indeed, worthy of a Quasi-Saint!

This feeling is truly exhilarating!” Following the slaying of Maitreya Buddha, a voice rang out from the side.

It was Jiang Liu’s Good Corpse!

From beginning to end, Jiang Liu’s Good Corpse had remained inconspicuous at the side, not uttering a single word.

Besides, only just reaching the realm of a Heavenly Immortal, the Good Corpse couldn’t have been of much use even if it had acted.

However, in the team status, it still received its due Experience Points.

“Did you level up?” Jiang Liu glanced at the Good Corpse and asked.

“Yes, I’ve risen 5 levels, now I’m level 66!” Hearing Jiang Liu’s question, the Good Corpse nodded and replied.

“Level 66?

Not bad, not bad, you’re almost catching up to me!” Upon hearing the answer from the Good Corpse, Jiang Liu also nodded.

Yet, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of inner turmoil.

Although this was his own Good Corpse, essentially a part of himself,

seeing it level up so effortlessly still made him feel a bit unbalanced inside.

“Alright, let’s move quickly, with Maitreya Buddha slain, this matter will likely cause a tremor throughout the heavens and earth!”

Level advancements were certainly joyous, but the Good Corpse seemed even more rational as it reminded Jiang Liu.

“Yes, let’s hasten!”

Nodding, Jiang Liu gathered his thoughts and suppressed the various emotions in his heart.

After retracting the Good Corpse, he quickly departed the area.

A Quasi-Saint, adding up all those in the Three Realms and Six Paths, there are only about twenty or thirty, yet the entire universe has persisted for hundreds of millions of years.

The fall of a Quasi-Saint, one could tell by using their toes, would lead to what kind of consequences.

Leaving Jiang Liu’s side aside as they had already departed, within the Netherworld, inside Ksitigarbha Cave, Ksitigarbha’s countenance was extremely grave at this moment.

“Ksitigarbha, you must release me, let me return!” In front of Ksitigarbha, the Lost Soul of Maitreya Buddha spoke up, addressing Ksitigarbha.

“Amitabha Buddha…” Seeing the Lost Soul of Maitreya Buddha before him, Ksitigarbha muttered a Buddhist chant in a low voice.

Ever since he was tasked with overseeing the reincarnations of all the Immortals and Buddhas, he indeed had caused countless Immortals and Buddhas to enter the cycle of reincarnation.

But today, Maitreya Buddha was the highest Cultivation Level Immortal or Buddha that Ksitigarbha had to deal with.

A member of the Three-World Buddha of the Buddhist Sect, with the rank of a Quasi-Saint!

This was his first time handling the reincarnation of a Quasi-Saint, wasn’t it?

“Buddha, the way of Heaven is clear, and the cycle of life and death is a fixed law.

It exists to prevent partiality among the Immortals and Buddhas; this is why I control reincarnation here.

How can I neglect my duty for sectarian emotions of the Buddhist Sect?” The gaze of Ksitigarbha fell on Maitreya Buddha’s Lost Soul as he spoke.

“Ksitigarbha, you must not forget who I am!” the Lost Soul of Maitreya Buddha, intensely staring at Ksitigarbha, said with an intent to assert his authority.

“I dare not forget the Buddha’s status!” Before Maitreya Buddha, Ksitigarbha slightly bowed his head, maintaining a very humble posture.

“Remember well then!”

Seeing Ksitigarbha bowing before him, Maitreya Buddha slightly nodded and said, “If that’s the case, then why aren’t you hurrying to release me!?”

“In my view, precisely because the Buddha’s status is extraordinary, you should be setting an example, should you not?” Ksitigarbha, staring seriously at Maitreya Buddha’s Lost Soul, spoke.

Without waiting for Maitreya Buddha’s reply, Ksitigarbha continued, “Our Buddhist Sect values the sacrifice of the self for the greater good, the completion of the greater self through the sacrifice of the lesser self!”

“All beings under the heavens, every entity must go through birth, aging, sickness, and death, reincarnation included, even for Immortals and Buddhas.

This is the reason for my existence!”

“Buddha, as one of the Three-World Buddha of our Sect, shouldn’t you act as a better role model?”

“If today I allow you to leave, later, when other Immortals and Buddhas ask me to make exceptions, how shall I refuse them?”

“Before this, all those Immortals and Buddhas I’ve sent into reincarnation, how then should I explain to them?”

Ksitigarbha, every word and action, earnest and methodical, seriously addressed Maitreya Buddha.

Although Ksitigarbha’s demeanor was very respectful toward Maitreya Buddha,

yet there was a firmness amidst the gentleness.

On the surface, Ksitigarbha was impeccable in his speech and behavior towards Maitreya Buddha,

but in terms of his duties, Ksitigarbha retained a steely, impartial stance.

“Ksitigarbha!”

Hearing Ksitigarbha’s words, Maitreya Buddha certainly understood his meaning, his voice much graver: “Don’t forget my role, I now oversee all tasks of the Journey to the West for Scriptures, and this quest itself is decreed by the Heavenly Dao!

Thus, even if you make a few exceptions, it wouldn’t be against the heavenly will!”

“Amitabha Buddha, isn’t that argument a bit far-fetched, Buddha?”

Ksitigarbha remained unmoved, shaking his head slightly and said, “Initially, the task of the Journey to the West for Scriptures was managed by Bodhisattva Guanyin.

It was only after Bodhisattva Guanyin succumbed to demon possession that Buddha took over.”

“Thus, even if today you, Buddha, perish from this path, naturally, someone else from our Buddhist Sect will take over, and the great task of the Journey to the West for Scriptures will not halt due to the demise of Buddha!”
