I transmigrated and got a husband and a son!-Chapter 1166: Should we… run away, Hera?
Chapter 1166: Should we... run away, Hera?
[PRESENT TIME]
"I’ll help you take down Florence Oxley."
Dominic’s eyes remained on Old Madam Zhu’s figure, sighing as he remembered Lukas’s words. It sounded all so tempting in the ear until Lukas went on to a more complicated part of his plans.
According to him, even before everything went down this way, there were already plans in motion to take down Florence Oxley. However, what they didn’t see coming was that Florence had already spread her virulent power and built her influence all over the world. She was connected not only to vicious felons across the world, but she also had a vote in big international government agencies. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
In other words, even before Lukas and the rest could see Florence’s real level of threat, it was already too late. This explains why nothing happened until now because if they made a misstep, they’d fall straight to hell.
"And your participation in this is..." Dominic’s jaw tightened, staring at Grandma Zhu coldly. "... is to draw out Hera through me."
This was indeed tiring.
Dominic balled his hands into a tight fist. No wonder Old Madam Zhu worded her confession that way despite knowing it would hurt him. She knew once she told him about Hera, Dominic would do everything in his power to protect the family from an underground big shot such as Hera.
It was almost flattering that Old Madam Zhu thought that Dominic was that capable of drawing Hera out of himself. But then again, he couldn’t blame everyone because Hera had been reacting to everything Dominic had done so far. Although the diamond venture was a coincidence in the past, Dominic’s activity in Hera’s money displayed his prowess to mess with her.
"The Five Secret Families..." he whispered, loosening his fist. "... reminds me of some traditional family of the past."
Dominic barely heard all these rules the secret society followed, but he felt suffocated already. "The Oxley, Silvers... Ebonhart."
[And by the way, in case you need to know this, but be very careful of the Ebonhart Family. They can’t be trusted. They’re just as cunning as the Oxley.]
Dominic shook his head mildly, telling himself that there was no need for him to dwell on this matter right now. He checked his wristwatch. It was already past two in the morning. How time flies so quickly.
With that in mind, Dominic pushed himself away from the chair and quietly walked away. On his way to the parking space, he felt his phone ring. Checking who it was, deep lines appeared between his brows upon seeing an incoming international call.
’This couldn’t be Hera,’ he thought. ’She doesn’t contact me through my phone, but through Gray’s phone.’
Was this the Madam? Or did Lukas forget to tell him another information he needed to process? Dominic was torn between what to do at the moment and before he knew it, he went to the fire exit and answered the call.
"I’ve been thinking about you a lot," were the first words he heard, and his expression instantly softened. "I missed you, darling."
His eyes swirled with longing and affection, leaning his back against the wall. "Hera," he smiled, closing his eyes as he took a deep breath. "How did you know hearing you is what I needed?"
"I’m not stalking you and this is purely destiny," she quipped, but her voice didn’t bear the usual liveliness in it. "Dom, I want to see you."
"..." Dominic slowly reopened his eyes and gazed at the ceiling. "Should we... run away, Hera?"
This time, Hera didn’t answer while Dominic didn’t mind her silence.
"Let’s turn our backs to everything and everyone," he continued with his suggestions. "We’ll have new names and identities and we’ll live somewhere far. It doesn’t matter how far as long as we’re together and the kids are with us."
A bitter smile turned up on his face as he cast his eyes down. "I know it is ridiculous and cowardly, but... I just really missed you and everything we used to do." — especially those lazy days they would just stay at home with Sebastian and Miracle and Axel squeezing himself into their family day.
It had been a while since they rested and, at this point, both of them were exhausted.
Much to Dominic’s surprise, Hera spoke. "Should we do that? I don’t think it’s a bad idea at this point."
"Something happened?" he asked automatically, knowing Hera would only agree to his ridiculous suggestion if something happened, which was enough to make her reconsider the idea. Not that Dominic was the one to talk.
"Mhm," she hummed. "Should I fly there? I don’t want to sleep alone tonight."
"Should you? Or should I?"
"Damn it." Hera hissed, biting the tip of her thumb irritably. "This is frustrating."
"Hera, I have to tell you something —"
"Before you say it, it’s not Grandma’s fault," she remarked, guessing what made him sound so exhausted and defeated. "I met her the night before and she confessed everything. Although I understand what happened and how things went down, I can’t forgive her so easily. However, that’s between Grandma and I. Don’t put yourself in between us or think that I didn’t kill her for you."
Hera leaned back as she huffed, knowing her husband very well. "Dom. I know you must be thinking that I will forgive the person who is just as responsible as the real culprit of my mother’s death, because she’s your grandmother."
"It’s not like I didn’t think of you, but I’m not letting you carry that burden for us," she continued solemnly. "My decision is the decision I made as Hera Cruel, the daughter of Felice and Vicenzo Cruel, and not a decision your wife made. But even if I decided as your wife, I’m sure you’d also make the same decision I made if the situation was reversed."
"Killing her right now isn’t my priority. After all, Grandma is already old. Her own body will break before I could even lift a finger," she added. "So, let’s not make that a discussion we should have right now. We’ll discuss it later when our lives aren’t on the line anymore."
Dominic went quiet as he nodded. "You’re right. I’m sorry." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"I called because my cousin paid me a visit."
"Cousin?"
"Mhm." She nodded. "His name is Ulysses Ebonhart. He’s a member of the Ebonhart Family, one of the Five Secret Families."
Ebonhart...
"Hera, someone warned me about the Ebonhart Family," Dominic blurted out, making her furrow her brows. "I met someone today. His name is Lukas Silvers, the head of the Silvers Family, which is also a part of the Five Secret Families. He’s a friend of grandma."
Suddenly, the line went quiet as neither of them spoke for the next several seconds.
That was strange, they thought.
The Ebonhart Family and the Silvers Family approached them on the same day as if... they were in a race.
"And what does this man want from you?" she asked after a prolonged silence.
"He told me he would help me take down Florence Oxley," Dominic answered. "And what about this cousin of yours? What did he tell you?"
"He said...I should claim the Oxley Family, and they’d help me take down Florence," she recalled. "Dom, do you find this weird?"
"I do. Who do you think is lying?"
"The Silvers?"
"Butler Fu introduced me to him. He knows him and trusts him." Dominic shook his head. "And this man warned me the Ebonhart are cunning."
"I used to trust Dragon a lot too, and that guy killed some of the people I introduced him to. I’ve seen what I’ve seen, darling. This young cousin of mine... hang on," she said as she straightened her back. "I’ll call you again later. Now that I think about it, that young lad was supposed to die today. My gut feeling is telling me that something here is wrong."
