I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 245: The Sanctuary of the Chosen
Chapter 245: The Sanctuary of the Chosen
Ravi was used to Death. How many Sentinels had he gotten close to that died in various missions? How many people had he met in various missions that soon died? People came and people went. He understood this and as a Sentinel with a good knowledge of the underworld, he understood that death was not the end, for many souls, death was the beginning.
He also knew it was not his fault. Why should he assume responsibility for a madman? It is just his eardrums hurt as if someone had whacked him in the head with a shovel, making it hard for him to think because of the tinnitus.
Lisa. That girl had been so terrible and yet so kind to him.
To bury another person.
He looked at Arlen who was gazing at him with blue eyes filled with worry and he let out a soft sigh, "Hope is a terrible thing."
He watched as Arlen paused and then shook his head, he moved closer to him, a strength in his gaze, "Ravi, hope is a good thing. We will find her."
There was no doubt in his voice, just absolute certainty. Just as one wild says the sky is blue. Complete faith.
Ravi took a deep breath. He did his best to suppress all his emotions of fear, worry, tension, and heartache. He could feel the strength seeping into him. It was the strangest and yet sweetest feeling.
"Do you really think so?" Ravi could hear his own voice; hear how vulnerable it sounded.
"Yes. You know Lisa very much." Arlen could recall when he had first come to Davenport Bureau. Ravi always had that look like someone owed him money, only when he would look at Lisa would his eyes soften. He always indulged her. Arlen had wanted so much to insert himself in that space, "Lisa would fight tooth and nail to survive. We can’t give up before her, okay?"
"Captain!" Draco who had gone downstairs called out.
Arlen gave a nod to Ravi who smiled softly. They soon rushed back to the bureau that was filled with reporters from outside.
Arlen frowned as microphones and cameras were soon pushed in his face.
"Captain Sinclair, is it true that a member of the Davenport Police Bureau had been captured by the killer who killed 21 other women."
Arlen pursed his lips; he could see from the logo that these reporters were not Davenport. Arlen had done everything to suppress the news from being broadcast on the news channels and on social media.
Who knew that the actions of the AIB would lead to reporters coming?
"This is an ongoing investigation, I have no comment."
Arlen said and walked briskly past them into the building. They collectively sighed and some even went to look for Ravi, blocking him with their bodies and their cameras.
Ravi did not talk or reply when one of them exclaimed in pain, letting go of the large black camera on her shoulder. The expensive-looking camera fell to the ground, making a loud sound. The young woman with short red hair stepped back immediately, "What the fuck was that?"
"Sola! What are you doing? Do you know how much that equipment is worth>" The man holding the microphone and blocking Ravi looked like he was about to go crazy, his eyes turning red at once as he shouted?
"Senior, really.."
Ravi just walked past them into the building with Draco who had not spoken a word to him since this afternoon.
The AIB had taken command of their office and they situated themselves in Arlen’s office.
It was quite irritating to see them use that space but Ravi knew the ABI had more information than they did and more resources too.
On the very large screen was a picture of a young boy and beside it were several news clippings of a cult, "The Sanctuary of the Chosen."
"Sanctuary of the Chosen? Special Agent Gibson, could you elaborate some more?"
"We traced the DNA samples of Doctor Nathan Kim that we got from his records at Oakdale." Special Agent Gibson was a forty-three-year-old man with sharp green eyes.
Arlen calmly nodded for her to continue as he headed to the board. ’Children speak; Survivors of the Sanctuary. The italicized heading was on the board. Arlen frowned, some of the images from this screen, he could recall seeing them on the television clip that was in Nathan Kim’s apartment. freewёbnoνel.com
Gibson understood what this young man’s identity was, so he did not feel any slight in his commanding action, "The Sanctuary of the Chosen was a cult that the ABI raided and captured twenty-five years later again. The Cult leader, Ezekiel Grant was granted the death penalty. The cult operated here in Davenport, an area called Millfield. We are currently checking if the Grants had any buildings in Millfield."
"Nathan Kim was a member of this cult." Arlen frowned, "He was around how old then, eight?"
"Yes. He was the son of Ezekiel Grant. The cult was involved in numerous allegations of murder, torture, sexual abuse, and child abuse; Their ideology was that you can attain purification only through suffering. He was sent to the Lorman Foster Home and one of our agents just interviewed the foster home. They claimed that for a while, he acted out severely, facing significant difficulties as he tried to assimilate into life outside the cult but by the time he reached 15 years old, he changed into a kind, loving child."
"He must have gotten his ability around them," Ravi murmured and the young man who had been standing next to him smiled at him. It was that kind of smile you show when a dog successfully catches a toy.
It was infuriating.
"Correct. That year, one of the volunteer counselors also went missing." The man walked into the office, "Captain Sinclair, I am Special Kennedy Watson, the Behavioral Analyst for this case."
"We do not have time to delegate resources to look for the body of the volunteer counselor just yet. We have an officer still missing and another possible victim in his hands. I do hope none of you would ignore this in any of the plans you make."
Kennedy smiled, "I understand your frustrations, Captain Sinclair. We would do everything we can to bring Lisa Johnson back, but Captain, we cannot proceed hastily or make rash decisions. Captain, bear in mind that we are dealing with a killer that has nothing to lose."
"And such people are the most dangerous," Ravi said as he looked at the screen.
