Genius Club-Chapter 1113 - 21 Going Home
Chapter 1113 -21 Going Home
Rhein Company Building.
Lin Xian pushed the door and entered the office, Brother Wang was already inside waiting for him.
“Lin Xian, you’re here.”
Brother Wang rose from the sofa, sighed, and pointed outside the floor-to-ceiling window, towards the MX Building across the street:
“Today is just like yesterday, the outside of President Zhao’s office is crammed with people.”
Lin Xian walked over, approaching the floor-to-ceiling windows, and gazed at the distant twin towers.
Both buildings utilized one-way glass, so from the inside one can see everything clearly; from the outside, nothing can be seen inside, only the blue light reflected from the entire wall like a mirror.
He squinted his eyes.
Focusing on the 22nd floor across the street, which was practically on the same horizontal line as him, a straight-line distance… just shy of 300 meters.
Now, basked in the noonday sunlight, all one could see over there was a whole layer of shiny blue glass, yet unable to see through to what was inside.
Lin Xian could guess the scene on the other side of the glass.
Zhao Yingjun must be seated at her desk in a flurry of activity, tirelessly reviewing documents, with various department heads standing in front, communicating work.
Although MX Company’s business is usually hectic, it certainly wouldn’t be busy to this extent, working at such high intensity without rest for two consecutive days.
Just as Brother Wang said…
Zhao Yingjun, she just wants to keep herself busy.
When one is busy, they don’t overthink, nor do they have the time to overthink, seemingly at peace, when in fact they are simply filled with other trifling matters, pushing the truly daunting thoughts into the corner, never to be confronted.
Every evening, she hasn’t been going home, staying alone in the office, the lights aglow.
Sigh. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Lin Xian let out a soft sigh.
In the daytime, she has the whole company’s staff to keep her company in the rush.
But the solitude of the night is the hardest to endure.
In the cold office, who else could keep her company?
Perhaps…
Only the [cleaning robot VV].
All of a sudden.
Lin Xian recalled the image in the Third Dreamland, in Zhao Yingjun’s personal exhibition hall in the museum, within the projection gallery—
The aged Zhao Yingjun sitting in the living room, curling a tissue into a ball, tossing it to the floor.
Then the trash can robot VV would shout, “Trash! Trash! Trash detected!” and quickly approach.
Its mechanical claw would grasp the wad of paper, its top cover open with a bang, flipping the paper inside, eliciting a smile from Zhao Yingjun every time.
Now.
During these past two grievous nights.
Zhao Yingjun, would she still be playing with the cleaning robot VV I gave her… this game of picking up paper balls that has been played for 600 years?
Behind him, Brother Wang walked over.
And looked out at the building opposite together with Lin Xian:
“What exactly happened… between you two?”
Lin Xian pursed his lips.
He did not speak.
Brother Wang patted Lin Xian on the shoulder:
“Every family has its own hard-to-read sutra, everyone has their unspeakable secrets, I’m not that nosy, and it’s fine if you don’t share the details with me.”
“But… there are many things you don’t know about, President Zhao also instructed me not to tell you, I think I can’t keep hiding it from you any longer.”
He looked up.
Gazing at Lin Xian:
“Lin Xian, actually, in ways you do not realize, President Zhao has always been keeping an eye on you, caring for you, not just since you left MX Company to establish Rhein Company. Even before that… since President Zhao considered making you her secretary, she has changed from how she used to be.”
“I think it’s pretty meaningless to dig out each and every incident now, but… a lot of things, President Zhao actually knows. She is much smarter than you think she is, and with her attention so fixed on you, how could you keep anything from her? Moreover… let’s just be frank, actually, me and Xiao Li are pretty much like undercover agents President Zhao has placed here with you.”
“I figured as much.”
Lin Xian replied:
“A fool could see that much.”
“Exactly!”
Brother Wang spread his hands:
“In this case, me and Xiao Li, including President Zhao, really have not been doing anything behind your back. She often asks us about you, your whereabouts, and it’s really not a secret. We’ve never thought to deceive you, it was just an unspoken understanding.”
“It’s all out of good intentions; could President Zhao ever betray you? In this world, besides your family and relatives, President Zhao is probably the only one who would never betray you, someone wholeheartedly and sincerely on your side.”
“To say that me and Xiao Li are President Zhao’s undercover agents, rather we are double agents. Anything that happens on President Zhao’s end, we report back to you immediately. I think I’m rambling, now’s not the time to discuss this.”
“I just want to say… President Zhao, she really treats you well, even though she knows you’re keeping many things from her, not telling her the truth; she still pretends to be unaware to accommodate you, even thinking from your perspective, considering whether you have your own difficulties.”
“The previous President Zhao, even faced with the greatest of troubles, the harshest of setbacks, never turned out like this. From my view as an original supporter who’s followed President Zhao from the beginning, her current state is no different than…”
Pausing for a moment, Brother Wang very clearly stated:
“The sky has fallen.”
…
Lin Xian withdrew his gaze from outside the window:
“Don’t worry, Brother Wang, the sky hasn’t fallen.”
He turned around, looking at Brother Wang:
“That’s exactly why I came here today, I won’t let her world collapse.”
“If it really did fall, I would patch it up for her; even if the entire sky were gone, it doesn’t matter… I’ll be her sky.”
Brother Wang’s eyes widened.
He took a deep breath and gave a thumbs-up:
“Good! That’s responsibility! I knew you were that kind of man!”
“You wanted to come over yesterday morning, but I persuaded you to wait. I thought it best to cool off for a day, as some matters are too confrontational and intense and not suitable to be resolved immediately.”
