Chapter 1340: The Arrival

Hsu Ziyan’s gaze was filled with contemptuous amusement. "Retribution? A thousand years have passed, and my strength has only continued to grow. Have you ever seen me suffer any the so-called retribution? Cristóbal Minguerra, you are so naive—that’s why you ended up like this. Let me make it clear: none of you will leave this place alive today."

The Grand Elder closed his eyes briefly, as if exhausted. "You plan to leave this universe, and yet you still insist on wiping us out?"

Hsu Ziyan raised an eyebrow and glanced at him sideways. "I don’t like leaving loose ends."

The Grand Elder suddenly laughed. "You don’t like leaving loose ends? How unfortunate—you have left the biggest one of all. And he will be the one to take your life."

Hsu Ziyan’s brow furrowed. "Ridiculous fear-mongering. Do you really think I’d believe you?"

"He’s not fear-mongering."

Rafael’s voice suddenly rang out.

Although his face was twisted in pain, a mocking smile still played at the corner of his lips.

"You have a death wish? Why provoke him now?" Duan Yao whispered in his ear.

Rafael was indifferent. "And what, let him spare us? If we’re going to die anyway, I might as well enjoy myself before I go. At least I’ll die satisfied."

Duan Yao fell silent.

Perhaps it was Rafael’s straightforward nature that had earned him that person’s respect.

Hsu Ziyan turned his gaze toward Rafael, his dark eyes like a void.

When he focused on someone, the sheer pressure was enough to make them struggle to breathe.

Yet Rafael felt nothing of the sort.

Perhaps because he had spent so much time around Amalia, his resistance to pressure was far beyond that of ordinary people.

He even bared his bloodstained teeth in a fierce grin.

Hsu Ziyan sneered. "A mere clown."

Rafael raised an eyebrow. "I’m a clown? Then what are you? A disposable villain who won’t even last a full episode?"

"You’re courting death!" Santiago shouted angrily.

Rafael dug a finger into his ear. "No, the one courting death is you. You look familiar... I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before. You called Hsu Ziyan your foster father, so you must be the Young Leader of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth?"

Santiago straightened his posture proudly. "So what if I am? You’re just a dying man. Consider it an honor to lay eyes on me before your end."

Rafael laughed. "Oh, I remember now. I saw your name in a report. Over thirty years ago, weren’t you just a servant of the Vanquez family? You’re that Santiago something, right? What an awful name."

His words were like a thunderclap, shocking not only Santiago but everyone else in the room.

The Young Leader of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth... had once been a mere family servant?

"I am the Young Leader of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth! How could I have ever been a servant of the Vanquez family? If you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll rip your mouth apart!" Santiago sneered, his expression unshaken, but the storm raging inside him was known only to himself.

Rafael gazed at him meaningfully. "It hasn’t even been that many years, and you’ve already forgotten your past?"

Duan Yao spoke coldly. "Why waste words on him? He’s just a greedy, doomed wretch. Some people think they can escape the consequences of their actions, but karma is ever-present. Just because it hasn’t struck yet doesn’t mean it never will."

Rafael smirked. "You’re right."

Santiago glared at them, his expression dark and unreadable.

How did they know about his past? Ever since he joined the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth, only his foster father had been aware of his origins—not even the now-dead Storm Claw Overlord had known.

Back then, it was he who had led the massacre mission in the Erythar Star System.

"Foster father, I want to kill them." Santiago’s voice was filled with malice.

Anyone who knew his past had to die.

Hsu Ziyan glanced at them indifferently. "Then kill them."

With that, he raised his palm, condensing two streams of spiritual energy.

In the next instant, they shot forth like deadly arrows.

"Hsu Ziyan, don’t make an even greater mistake!"

To everyone’s surprise, the Grand Elder moved—rushing toward Rafael and Duan Yao as if trying to save them.

Saving two unrelated people?

That wasn’t like the Grand Elder at all.

No one believed he was acting out of kindness.

Everyone knew Hsu Ziyan’s power was far beyond what it once was.

Even for the Grand Elder, blocking an attack from Hsu Ziyan, who had reached the Nascent Soul stage, was no easy feat.

And yet, he still chose to intervene.

Hsu Ziyan sensed that something was off.

Cristóbal Minguerra had his reasons for saving the people of the Crimson Moon Dynasty, but what did the people from the Erythar Star System have to do with the Grand Elder?

He had dismissed their earlier words as nonsense.

Even if there were still powerful figures hidden away, could they really surpass someone who had forcefully broken through realms?

Should he be more cautious?

The Grand Elder moved with astonishing speed, positioning himself in front of Rafael and Duan Yao, his voice swiftly transmitting into their minds.

"If I die, I hope you two can deliver a message to Ms. Immortal. I only ask that when disaster strikes, they protect the Crimson Moon Dynasty."

Rafael and Duan Yao had already suspected that the Grand Elder had his own motives.

Given Hsu Ziyan’s recent breakthrough and the sudden surge in his strength, it was only natural that the Grand Elder would have made his calculations in advance.

"Grand Elder, you should protect the Crimson Moon Dynasty yourself," a calm voice suddenly echoed in his mind.

The next moment, two streams of spiritual energy were instantly swallowed by two streaks of light.

Amalia and Kenny Lin walked in as if no one else existed, their gazes falling on Rafael and Duan Yao.
