Former Interstellar Mercenary In Urban Cultivation World-Chapter 1320: The Hidden Treasure
Chapter 1320: The Hidden Treasure
The person he addressed as "Sir" was clad in a black robe, his face obscured by a grotesque and menacing mask.
Even though his true face remained hidden, just standing before him made everyone feel an oppressive pressure.
They struggled to breathe under his presence, not daring to speak carelessly.
At that moment, a young man standing by a window suddenly let out a disdainful snort.
"Such a simple and obvious truth, and yet you still can’t see it? You actually need the leader’s opinion?"
Before the subordinate could respond, the young man turned to the leader and continued, "I told you before—there was no need to bring them along. They’re useless to us, just dead weight."
The young man’s tone was filled with arrogance, and his eyes held undisguised contempt for the Master’s subordinates.
Yet, strangely enough, none of them showed anger.
Instead, they remained silent.
The masked figure let out a light chuckle.
"Don’t say that. They are my beloved subordinates. Every person has their own value. There are things you cannot do that they can. So don’t be so quick to dismiss their worth."
A few of the disciples’ eyes burned with fanaticism.
This was the leader they followed—one who never denied their value.
The young man, however, remained unimpressed.
That old man loved using these kinds of words to win people over.
He had seen this routine play out countless times over the past twenty years.
"Value" was just another way of saying "usefulness."
And when someone was no longer useful, the old man would discard them without a second thought.
These fools had seen it happen, yet they still believed everything he did was right.
One of the disciples hesitated before speaking. "Do you mean to say that the cultivators wouldn’t ambush us at Planet Neo-Shengis?"
The young man rolled his eyes. "Obviously. Do you even know what Planet Neo-Shengis is? It’s a land of fortune! Everyone who goes there is looking for opportunities. The safety passage in this Solvaris Star System is only open for a month. No one’s going to waste their time lying in wait for us instead of searching for treasures. Only an idiot would do that."
"But we come to Planet Neo-Shengis every year and never find much. Will this time be any different?"
The young man scoffed, "If it were easy to find, it wouldn’t be called a ’fortuitous opportunity,’ would it?"
"This year might be different," the leader said with a smile.
At his words, everyone, including the young man, turned to look at him.
"Foster father, what do you mean by different? Could it be that the opportunities on Planet Neo-Shengis will be easier to find this time?" The young man was genuinely curious.
The leader chuckled and explained, "There is a hidden treasure land on Planet Neo-Shengis, protected by a formation. That formation is incredibly powerful. I once tried to break through it by force, but it rebounded and left me severely injured."
The young man’s expression grew serious. "I remember you came to the Solvaris Star System over twenty years ago, and when you returned to headquarters, you were gravely wounded. Was that because of the formation?"
The leader nodded. "That’s right."
"Foster father, why did you only come to Planet Neo-Shengis once every five years? Was it because of this formation’s seal?" the young man asked, finally voicing a question he had long held.
"The formation’s seal is extremely strong—far beyond our current ability to break. However, it has a weakness. The formation is powered by spiritual energy... but Planet Neo-Shengis has no spiritual energy."
The young man inhaled sharply as a realization struck him. "A formation with no spiritual energy... and it has lasted for a thousand years?"
"Now you understand why I must go to Planet Neo-Shengis. A place without spiritual energy, yet with a formation that has lasted a millennium... and twenty years ago, it severely injured me. There is something inside that I must obtain," the leader said, his voice lowering into a chilling murmur.
"But Foster Father, if there’s no spiritual energy on Planet Neo-Shengis, doesn’t that mean we’ll have to rely entirely on energy stones and pills to replenish our power? No wonder you had us bring so many energy stones and pills—so that’s the reason," the young man suddenly realized.
The leader nodded in satisfaction. "That’s right. Now, I must rest and gather my strength. I leave this to you."
"Understood, Foster Father."
The young man watched him leave before turning to his subordinates. "Gather the men. Have them advance at full speed. If the formation seal that Foster Father desires is about to break, we cannot afford any more delays!"
"Yes, Young Leader! We will make it happen immediately!"
After they left, a red-haired confidant beside the young man stepped forward.
"Young Leader, not only have the people from the Pleiadian Ascendancy arrived this time, but the cultivators who wiped out half of our Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth’s forces are likely to be here as well. Should we take extra precautions?" freewebnσvel.cѳm
The young man frowned. "What about the investigation I asked you to conduct?"
His foster father might not care about losing half the sect’s forces, but he did.
That power had been built over centuries, only to be destroyed just like that.
He was determined to avenge them.
"They’re cultivators from the Erythar Star System, but their background is unknown—almost as if they appeared out of thin air. Even in the Pleiades Star System, there isn’t much information about them. I once sent someone to approach the envoys of the Erythar Star System, but the moment those two cultivators were mentioned, they refused to reveal anything, only offering endless praise for them."
"I don’t believe for a second that two cultivators would attack us without reason. There must be something more to this," the young man said darkly.
"Could it be because we ambushed them on the way and angered them?" the red-haired confidant speculated.
