Divine Beast Creator-Chapter 124: Travel Through Time_1
Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Travel Through Time_1
Feng Yuan gently touched the transparent barrier enveloping the hourglass and said to everyone,
"The time hourglass can calculate the anomalous timestamp through the space-time abnormalities present on each of us. Every one of us is a sample; the more samples we have, the quicker and more accurate the calculation will be."
Hearing Feng Yuan’s explanation, Qi Chen imitated him by reaching out to touch the transparent barrier outside the hourglass, feeling a mysterious power sweep over him. Dou Yanlan calmly extended her hand to touch the barrier. After hesitating for a moment, Qi Xiaoshuang and Yang Hongzhi also reached out their hands. After a while, everyone had touched the transparent barrier, and the central hourglass gradually emitted a pure white light, corresponding to the white light emanating from the White Wolf Deity as well.
As the light became increasingly dazzling, a sky-blue rune circled rose around the edge of the metal disc on the ground, rotating around the disc. The pure white light slowly enveloped everyone; their vision filled with a vast whiteness. After a long time, they heard the sound of birdsong, and as the light gradually dissipated, they opened their eyes to find themselves on a densely vegetated mountain.
The White Wolf Deity howled towards the Vermilion Bird, and its form began to shrink, transforming into a small white dog standing by Feng Yuan’s side. Qi Xiaoshuang looked somewhat dissatisfied at the White Wolf Deity. The Vermilion Bird ignited flames around its body, gradually shrinking until it became a red bird the same size as Xiao Ji, landing on Wu Feng’s head, stepping back and forth before perching atop it.
Seeing Captain Yang observing the surroundings, Feng Yuan cradled Xiao Ji in his arms, placing him on the ground and putting on a hooded cloak while saying,
"You’d better wear these hoods, unless you want to see your own face on some ancient mural after we return."
"Why?"
Although puzzled, Qi Chen and the others still put on the hoods. Feng Yuan glanced at Captain Yang who was staring at him and said,
"Although we are now in a false past, because the White Wolf Deity has initiated a time correction, everything we do now will reflect back into reality."
"Moreover, we only have one chance to correct this. Repeated corrections will only bring greater trouble. If we fail to correct the altered history this time, Maomu City will truly be gone..."
Feng Yuan sighed as he spoke. Upon hearing this, Wu Feng felt some indignation, while Captain Yang and Meng Binglan seemed to be pondering something. Gladys and the woman beside her stood to one side with a detached air, with Gladys looking at Feng Yuan curiously. Qi Chen and the others appeared anxious. After a while, Captain Yang broke the silence,
"So what do we do now?"
"I don’t know. All I know is that we are currently at the original point of temporal correction, meaning the individual who altered history should be in this time-space. However, the White Wolf Deity seems unable to sense exactly where."
"Sense?"
Looking skeptically at the White Wolf Deity standing next to Feng Yuan, Captain Yang asked. Feng Yuan nodded and explained,
"It’s almost certain that what caused this was a fragment of the pseudo-World Clock. Other history modifiers wouldn’t have the ability to shield themselves from the White Wolf Deity’s sensing."
"So, you’re saying history has already been extensively altered?"
"It shouldn’t be; such a significant temporal correction has never occurred before this."
"If only we hadn’t shattered the core back then..."
Seeing Qi Chen and the others feeling guilty, Feng Yuan, holding the downcast Xiao Ji, said,
"If we hadn’t shattered the core, Maomu City would have still been destroyed by the attack from the Emerald Ruins; there was no other choice. Besides, it was not us who destroyed the pseudo-World Clock."
"Moreover, compared to the pseudo-World Clock, its fragments are a little easier to deal with. Except for those that still retain strong power, most fragments can be sensed and easily reclaimed by the White Wolf Deity and Lorraine Tower."
While speaking, Feng Yuan gently placed his hand on the back of the White Wolf Deity, causing Qi Xiaoshuang to look at him with slight discontent. Smiling, he added,
"Lorraine Tower and the White Wolf Deity have been busy reclaiming those fragments this whole time~"
"It’s a pity that my research has not been successful yet; otherwise, I could have assisted them."
Seeing that everyone except Captain Yang looked at her with confusion, Meng Binglan smoothed her hair and, leaning against a large tree, said,
"Previously, it was reported that fragments of the pseudo World Clock from the Emerald Ruins might have fallen into the past or future, so I planned to study a time-traveling device to see if we could find some pieces of the pseudo World Clock. Just before you found us, we were experimenting with a time travel machine."
"No wonder you haven’t been affected by the time adjustment."
"It’s a pity it wasn’t successful, though. We avoided the effects of time adjustment but it didn’t take us back to the past."
Seeing Meng Binglan’s slightly regretful expression, Feng Yuan spoke with a serious tone,
"You’d better not think about time travel. The reason why only the White Wolf Deity and Lorraine Tower can traverse time is because going back to the past can easily damage the present, just like what happened this time."
"I didn’t intend to change any history; I just wanted to understand the history of those lost civilizations."
Seeing Feng Yuan staring at her with displeasure, Meng Binglan gave him a bored glance and turned away from the group to look around. Noticing that Meng Binglan seemed unwilling to give up, Feng Yuan shook his head and didn’t plan to say more. The two’s unhappy exchange left everyone silent until Captain Yang broke the silence,
"We’ll head down the mountain in this direction."
"Reason?"
Captain Yang surveyed Feng Yuan for a moment, realizing he wasn’t just picking a fight. He glanced at Yang Hongzhi and explained,
"There are traces of a riverbed in this direction. If we follow the river, there’s a high likelihood of finding a human settlement."
"Are you planning to ask people for information?"
"What else? Do you have any other clues?"
"None."
Feng Yuan shook his head helplessly, and Qi Chen said with some confusion,
"What exactly are we looking for?"
"The Spirit Beast that caused the anomaly. Since the epicenter is here, it suggests that the Spirit Beast should’ve appeared at this time point. But we know nothing about what happened in the original history, so asking someone might indeed be a good idea..."
"How can you be so sure it’s a Spirit Beast and not a natural disaster?"
"A natural disaster is impossible. The pseudo World Clock doesn’t have the power to create something out of nothing. It can only influence the bigger picture through small details. There has never been a natural disaster in the history of Maomu City that could turn everything into a sea of fire, especially since the burning forest was clearly affected by some special powers. A natural disaster couldn’t do that."
Captain Yang summoned his Spirit Beast, a white-furred monkey as tall as a man, wielding a long sword and cutting through the bushes and vines in the path ahead. Feng Yuan and the others followed cautiously behind, conversing quietly, while Gladys and her partners hung back, watching the group with interest.
"Who’s there! Come out!"
Captain Yang suddenly shouted at a bush, but when there was no response, just as Qi Xiaoshuang was about to say something, Captain Yang’s Flame Wolfhound sprang toward the bush. A scrawny little boy dashed out, dodging the Flame Wolfhound only to be pinned to the ground by the white-furred Spirit Monkey.
Seeing the boy struggle on the ground, Captain Yang kept questioning him, but the boy just struggled without paying any attention to him. Realizing something was amiss, Captain Yang directed the Spirit Monkey to help the boy up. The Spirit Monkey and the Flame Wolfhound kept a watchful eye on the boy to prevent his escape.
After speaking a few words and sighing with some frustration, Captain Yang called Meng Binglan over. After a brief exchange, Meng Binglan crouched down curiously, looking eye to eye with the boy and saying something. Watching the two’s strange behavior, Qi Chen asked Feng Yuan in a low voice,
"What’s happening here?"
