Chapter 216: Chapter 216: Investigation

In a small office.

"How can you be foolish even at this age, Shawn?" A loud voice echoed.

Director Shawn, who was a middle-aged man with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes, frowned at the outburst of his brother.

He was rather a handsome man, and his skin was pale, giving him the vibe of a gentleman.

However, only those who had seen him in the locked room knew what type of man he was.

Underneath his human skin lurked a monster.

"Brother, why are you getting so angry? I assure that I will find the mastermind soon and make sure that your election doesn’t get affected." Director Shawn tried to soothe his brother.

Though he had a calm expression, anger was bursting in his heart.

’Whoever you are...Once I find you. I will make sure to ruin you completely.’

"Each time! Each time you say the same thing! I have cleared up your mess for the past decade in the hopes that you will eventually stop one day.

But now, I think you will never improve." Director Shawn’s brother, Beau, gritted his teeth.

He was a middle-aged man with ash brown hair and green eyes.

Beau slammed his hand on the desk, making the pens in the holder jump. His face was flushed with frustration, and his sharp green eyes bored into Shawn like daggers.

"You’re not just a reckless director anymore, Shawn," Beau hissed. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

"You’re a walking disaster. Do you even realize what’s at stake for me? I’m weeks away from the biggest election of my life, and now this explodes like a bomb."

Director Shawn remained seated, one leg casually crossed over the other.

He reached for the glass of water in front of him and took a slow sip, masking his growing fury.

"I already said I’ll handle it," Shawn replied coolly.

"There’s no proof left. Everything’s getting deleted as we speak. You’ve taught me well, haven’t you?"

Beau shook his head in disbelief.

"You don’t get it. This time, people are digging deeper. The videos were online for a full 12 hours before our team caught it.

That’s more than enough time for copies to be saved, shared, and sent to the press. They’re going to keep coming back."

Shawn’s jaw twitched.

He placed the glass down, his fingers tightening around it for a second too long.

"Then help me again, brother," he said with a fake smile.

"Like you always do. Make a few calls, buy a few people. Leak a new scandal about one of your opponents if you have to—just distract the public."

Beau stared at him, disgust flickering behind his eyes. "You think this is a game?"

"No," Shawn said sharply, finally standing. "I think this is how the world works. You’ve always known that, too."

There was a moment of heavy silence between them.

The ticking of the wall clock echoed in the small office like a countdown.

Beau took a deep breath and turned away, rubbing his temples.

"I can’t keep doing this," he muttered. "I can’t keep risking everything for you."

Shawn stepped forward, his voice low and cold.

"You don’t have a choice. If I go down, your perfect political image goes with me. You knew that the day you helped me cover up the first incident."

Beau froze.

He didn’t say anything—but the tightening of his jaw spoke volumes.

Shawn smirked, straightening his blazer.

"I’ll find the person behind the leak. I’ll make an example of them. And when I do, I want the press silenced again."

Beau still didn’t look at him.

"You’d better pray I win this election," he said quietly. "Because if I lose, I won’t have any reason left to protect you."

Shawn’s smile faded just a little, but he said nothing as he turned and walked out of the office.

His eyes were cold. Focused.

His assistant, wearing a checkered brown suit, rushed up to him and said,

"Among all the videos that were uploaded, only three celebrities’ videos weren’t uploaded."

"Oh? What are their names?" Director Shawn asked coldly.

If all the videos from his album were released online, then the person who had uploaded all the videos would have made sure that his own videos weren’t released.

"First is Jonnah. Second is Theodore, and third is Eric."

Director Shawn’s eyes narrowed.

"Jonnah. Theodore. Eric," he repeated slowly, as if tasting each name. His mind was already racing, putting the pieces together.

"Call them in," he said sharply. "One by one. I want to see their faces when I ask them about this."

The assistant hesitated.

"What excuse should I use?"

"Say that I am casting for the new movie and the role is male lead."

"Alright." The assistant nodded and left.

A few hours later, the first to arrive was Jonnah.

He walked into the office wearing sunglasses and a casual leather jacket, acting like he owned the place.

His black hair was neatly styled, and he gave a small smirk as he took a seat across from Director Shawn.

"So, Director," Jonnah said, crossing one leg over the other, "what’s this new movie about? Something dark and serious, I hope. You know I don’t do comedy."

Shawn didn’t smile. He simply leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table.

He had never seen Jonnah so confident before and couldn’t help but doubt him.

"No script yet. I’m still choosing the face for the lead role."

Jonnah raised an eyebrow. "So this is like an interview?"

He wasn’t scared as he was before, primarily because of Miss Dawn’s backing, which, though the industry doesn’t know, he could roam around carefree.

Shawn nodded slightly, but his eyes stayed sharp and cold.

"You’re one of the few actors in my files who’s still... clean."

Jonnah laughed. "That’s rare praise coming from you."

Shawn didn’t laugh back. He stared at him for a long moment, then said, "You weren’t in the leaked footage."

Jonnah’s smirk faded just a little. "Should I be?"

"Everyone else was."

"Guess I got lucky."

Shawn stood up slowly, walking around the desk. His footsteps were quiet, but each one made Jonnah’s confidence shrink a little.

"Luck has a pattern," Shawn said. "And right now, your pattern doesn’t fit."

Jonnah leaned back in the chair, now visibly tense. "You think I had something to do with the leak?"

"I think," Shawn said in a low voice, "that someone’s hiding. And whoever didn’t show up in those videos has the best reason to want this chaos."

"I’d never mess with you, Director," Jonnah said quickly.

A few seconds passed in silence.

Then, Shawn turned away.

"You’re free to go. For now."

Jonnah stood up quickly and left the office. However, instead of leaving, he waited for Theodore.

What a joke, Miss Dawn had asked him to protect Theodore.

’From my observation skills and sharp mind, I think Theodore might be close to Miss Dawn’s heart. Maybe he is Miss Dawn’s close relative, or maybe he is her lover or favourite actor. Anyhow, I need to protect him.’

A few minutes later, Theodore arrived at the building.

He looked nervous.

Unlike Jonnah, Theodore didn’t wear flashy clothes. He wore a simple blue hoodie, black jeans, and sneakers. His brown hair was a little messy, and his hands kept fidgeting in his pockets.

As he walked toward Director Shawn’s office, Jonnah stepped out of the shadows.

"Theodore," he called softly.

Theodore stopped and turned, surprised.

Though Jonnah, just like him, was a no-name actor, he was still a league above Jonnah. So it surprised him that Jonnah took the initiative to talk with him.

However he decided to play it cool.

"Jonnah? What are you doing here?"

"I came for the same reason you did. The director’s casting a new movie, remember?"

Theodore gave a small, unsure nod.

"Right... it just feels weird. Why would he suddenly offer the lead role to people like us?"

Jonnah glanced toward the office door. "It’s not about a movie. He’s trying to figure out who leaked those videos."

Theodore’s eyes widened in shock. "What? But why is he considering us as the suspect ?"

’Did he know that my sister had jinxed him yesterday?’ His face turned slightly pale.

"Mostly like, but that doesn’t matter to him," Jonnah said, placing a hand on Theodore’s shoulder.

"He’s looking for someone to blame. So whatever you say in there, stay calm. Don’t give him a reason to target you."

Theodore swallowed hard. "Okay... Thanks."

Just then, the assistant opened the office door. "Theodore? Director Shawn is ready for you."

Jonnah gave him a small nod. "Go. I’ll be waiting."

Theodore walked into the office, his steps a little shaky.

Shawn was already sitting behind the desk, his fingers tapping slowly on the wooden surface.

"Have a seat," Shawn said without looking up.

Theodore sat down, his back straight and hands tight in his lap.

"So," Shawn said, finally meeting his eyes. "Do you know why you’re here?"

"The casting?" Theodore asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

Shawn gave a cold smile. "That’s the excuse, yes. But let’s not waste time."

He leaned forward.

"You were the one who had leaked the videos, right?"
