Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Canary

Aurora chuckled and ate the tablets given by Spencer in a bright mood.

"By the way, how did my parents let you into my room?" She asked curiously.

Spencer smiled, but on a closer look, there was sadness hidden in it.

The truth was... the Waters family recognized him at first glance.

Mrs. Waters was still the same gentle woman, while Mr. Waters was still the same overprotective father.

Lucas and Adriana were still like the older siblings who looked after him.

Theodore, on the other hand, would still glare at him.

Olivia teased him just like she used to.

For a moment, Spencer even felt that he had gone back in time.

Only... Aurora in front of him...wasn’t the same Aurora. The past Aurora used to circle around him and call him ’future hubby’

The bitter thing about memories is when one remembers everything while the other who had made those memories special forgets about it.

Sensing his low mood, Aurora frowned and asked,

"Did they scold you?"

Spencer snapped out of his daze, shook his head, and softly,

"No. They welcomed me when I said I was your canary."

Aurora gave up on talking with him. This guy truly has weird talking skills.

Just as they were about to continue the conversation, a knock sounded on the door, followed by Olivia’s voice,

"If you are naked with no clothes on, this is your chance to put them on."

Aurora: "..." Oversmart sister!

She was about to shout when she heard Spencer laugh, and her attention was attracted to his face.

Thump.

Thump.

The sound of his laughter made her heart beat wildly.

Spencer looked beautiful while laughing... his wide, neat rows of teeth, followed by his slightly red lips, even his straight nose, which she barely noticed before, looked beautiful at the moment.

Aurora suddenly had the urge to kiss Spencer. However, before she could move, Olivia walked in with a tray.

With a bright smile, she asked Spencer,

"Did you have fun?"

Spencer, who was laughing, wiped the tears forming at the corner of his eyes and said,

"Yes. Except...we weren’t naked."

Olivia waved her hand,

"Come on! Like, I don’t know that you both will reach that point in a few months."

Spencer’s ears turned slightly red, but he still maintained the smile on his face.

Aurora, on the other hand, suddenly felt displeased.

Why were Spencer’s ears red? Did he like Olivia?

Apparently, the schemer Aurora was so fixed on staring at Spencer that she didn’t listen to the conversation at all.

So she misunderstood Spencer.

Without hesitation, she extended her hand and held Spencer’s hand, drawing his and Olivia’s attention.

"My canary, give me some water!"

Spencer froze, and even Olivia was surprised.

Aurora was satisfied with their reaction.

’Let’s see if he forgets his identity and tries to like someone else in the future! He is my canary! He can’t like anyone other than me!’

"Canary?" Olivia repeated, while Spencer looked as if he wanted to die.

With a forced smile and blushing ears, he stood up and said,

"I will fetch water from the kitchen."

He wanted to escape this embarrassing situation anyhow.

However, Aurora misunderstood his intention and refused to leave his hand,

"Where are you going, my canary? Isn’t there water on the table?"

Olivia curiously looked at Aurora and said,

"Care to explain why you are calling Spen, canary?"

Spen?

Oh! So they have reached the point where they call each other with nicknames?

An unknown fire burned in Aurora’s heart.

In order to exert her dominance, she smiled elegantly and said,

"First of all, his name is Spencer! Not Spen! And second, he is my canary. It means he..."

"Aurora!" Spencer stopped her with a panicked look. "I think your throat is dry. Wait till I bring you water before you speak again."

Then he dragged Olivia out without hearing Aurora’s response.

Seeing his hand on Olivia’s forearms, Aurora felt even more discomfort. So much so that she wanted to act like a brat and throw everything in the room on the floor.

"Spencer! You are gone for good! Just you wait! Once I recover, I will show you your place!"

After 5 minutes or so, Spencer returned with a relieved expression,

"Thank god I stopped you...Do you know what would have happened if you said those words? Why are you acting like this?"

Aurora sneered,

"What? Your chances of getting together with my sister would have vanished!"

Spencer stared at Aurora like she’d just spoken a foreign language.

"What do you mean, your sister? Why would I get together with Olivia?"

Aurora folded her arms, lips pursed.

"Oh, come on. You were blushing! She called you Spen! You even held her arm!"

Spencer blinked.

"Aurora... I was blushing because you called me your canary in front of her! And I held her arm to pull her out before you said something completely unhinged!"

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"I was trying to protect you from embarrassing yourself. Not flirt with your sister!"

Aurora paused, her anger starting to deflate, but her pride kept her from giving in too quickly.

"Wait!" Spencer looked at Aurora as if he had made a new discovery and asked, "You...were you jealous?"

Aurora stiffened. Her mouth opened, then closed, then opened again like a fish out of water.

"W-What?" she stammered, eyes darting everywhere except Spencer’s face.

Spencer stepped closer, a teasing smile tugging at his lips. "You were jealous."

"I was not!" Aurora said quickly, almost too quickly.

She grabbed the glass of water he brought and took a sip like it could wash away the heat rising to her cheeks.

Spencer tilted his head. "Then why did you call me your canary in front of your sister like you were claiming a prize?"

Aurora put the glass down with a clink. "I was just making sure you didn’t forget your position."

"My position?" Spencer raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah," she said, arms crossed again. "You’re mine."

There was a beat of silence.

Spencer blinked, stunned. Then a smile appeared on his face, and he blushed. Instead of arguing, he said in a soft voice,

"I’m yours."

Aurora was stumped. Now she didn’t know what she should say.

"I was emotionally unstable, don’t take my words seriously," she muttered under her breath, cheeks burning.

"I am sorry, but I have taken your words seriously," Spencer replied with a chuckle, his entire mood brightened up.

He could see his future self giving a speech at their wedding already.

Ah...he would wear a black tuxedo!

If Aurora could hear Spencer’s thought process, she would have been speechless.

Just as they were sharing a sweet yet weird moment, the door was knocked again and this time, Mary’s voice sounded,

"Aurora, someone named Rose has come to apologise to you."

Aurora was stunned.

Rose?

Which Rose?

After thinking for a while, when she couldn’t remember, she got out of bed weakly. Spencer immediately scooped her in his arms, scaring Aurora,

"Hey! What are you doing! Stop! Put me down!"

"No, you can’t walk. I will help you." He said and continued to walk toward the door.

Aurora, having no choice, blurted it out.

"I need to use the washroom!"

Spencer froze mid-step, halfway to the door, his arms tightening just a little around Aurora.

"You... what?" he asked, blinking down at her.

Aurora covered her face with both hands. "You heard me! I need to use the washroom! So put me down!"

A second passed. Then Spencer let out a short laugh, clearly amused.

"Well, you could’ve just said that a bit sooner. Not right when I’m halfway to the door like I’m some kind of dramatic prince carrying his bride."

Aurora peeked at him through her fingers, embarrassed beyond belief. "You are dramatic."

Instead of putting her down, he changed direction and walked toward the washroom.

He gently set her down on her feet, but kept one hand at her waist, steadying her. "Can you walk by yourself?"

"I’m not a toddler," she grumbled, swatting his hand away lightly.

Still, she wobbled a bit as she took a step. Spencer reached out again, but she held up a finger warningly.

"I got this."

"Alright, alright," he said, holding his hands up in surrender. "Call me if you fall and need your noble canary to catch you."

The moment the door closed behind her, he let out a breath and sat down on the edge of her bed.

His heart was still racing—not from carrying her, but from hearing her call him "mine."

And not taking it back seriously, no matter how much she pretended she didn’t mean it.

She was totally jealous. That was progress, right?

Meanwhile, in the washroom, Aurora stared at herself in the mirror, cheeks still pink.

"Mine?" she whispered to herself. "Ughhh! Why did I say that?!"

She splashed some cold water on her face.

Her heartbeat was still out of control, and no matter how much she told herself it was just a moment of confusion, she knew deep down...
