Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Heir

Diana flushed a deep, ugly red, her lips trembling with suppressed rage.

Aurora, still seated, gave a small, satisfied smile, her fingers brushing idly over the back of her hand where Spencer’s touch still lingered.

"Spencer, do you truly want to do this? For a peasant girl like her? Do you forget that our families are talking about a marriage alliance?" Diana asked with a flushed face, her anger threatening to boil over.

Spencer’s gaze turned chilly,

"Diana, you do realize that no one can force me into marriage till I want it, right? So stop threatening me."

"They will remove you as the heir! Do you still want her?" Diana shouted at the top of her lungs.

For a moment, silence ensued.

Aurora was stunned by the new piece of information.

Will Spencer lose his position as heir if he stays with her?

A hint of temptation appeared in Aurora’s eyes.

If Spencer could lose everything, she could keep him. She has a lot of money. Not to mention, from everything Spencer had done for her till now, Aurora knew that maybe...his feelings for her were genuine all along.

If that was the case...

Aurora stared at Spencer discreetly.

Even if she was a villain...she could keep a pet, right?

Spencer was a side character anyway.

That was what Aurora thought, but she still stared at Spencer as if waiting for his answer.

Spencer, on the other hand, wanted to laugh hearing Diana’s words.

Kick him out? Sure, they can go ahead. But the question was, could they bear to?

They might seem to have the leash, but as long as they let go, he dares to say that he could overturn the entire ranking of wealthy families in New York City.

However, before he could answer, he felt Aurora’s burning gaze. His heart skipped a beat.

For the first time in days, Aurora was looking at him...with a hot and passionate gaze.

Why?

Does she want him to remain as the heir?

No...If that was the case, she might have clung to him the moment she came to know about his identity.

Does she want him to prove his sincerity?

Yes! It must be that.

Hence, Spencer looked at Diana with a grin and said,

Spencer looked at Diana with a calm, almost lazy grin and said,

"Go ahead and try, Diana. I’d love to see what happens when they find out they lost their best option just because of a tantrum."

Diana’s mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air.

She clearly hadn’t expected him to be this blunt.

Spencer turned back to Aurora, his eyes warm now, filled with something so gentle it made Aurora’s breath catch for a second.

"As for me," Spencer said, voice steady, "I make my own choices. And right now, I choose her. I will give up my position as heir."

Heck, he might give up his life just to marry Aurora and see her love him again.

He didn’t shout it. He didn’t need to. The simple, firm words hit harder than any loud declaration ever could.

Aurora blinked, feeling an odd flutter in her chest that she wasn’t ready to name yet.

She masked it quickly, of course, slouching back in her chair and pretending to examine her nails like none of this really mattered to her.

But inside, a tiny, treacherous warmth was growing.

Diana, seeing how completely she had lost, let out a sound somewhere between a sob and a snarl. Her face twisted with fury.

"You’ll regret this, Spencer," she hissed.

Spencer didn’t even glance at her this time. His focus was entirely on Aurora, as if Diana wasn’t even worth wasting words on anymore.

Mia just leaned closer to Aurora and whispered, "That was so cool."

Aurora didn’t respond. She just lifted her chin a little higher, the faintest of smug smiles playing on her lips.

Diana, realizing she had no support left, spun on her heel and stormed away, her injured pride trailing behind her like a tattered cape.

As soon as she disappeared, the heavy tension in the room broke like a popped balloon.

The group continued to discuss their project, and when the discussion ended, Betsy turned toward Aurora with a smile,

"Hey, are you free today? Should we go shopping?"

"Yes. We are planning to shop for the homecoming." Dana added quickly.

Mia, who was packing her stuff, paused and turned to look at Aurora with a hopeful gaze. She didn’t pressurize Aurora, but Aurora understood.

Taking a deep breath, she nodded.

"Alright."

Spencer, who was quiet till then, said,

"Then let’s go. It just happened that I was thinking about buying some new clothes."

Betsy was excited and said,

"Oh? So I will take the passenger seat then! Thank you so much, Spencer!"

"I don’t like anyone sitting in my passenger seat. It is reserved for some special people." Spencer said with a calm gaze.

"Then I will sit in the backseat. I heard that you have an Aston Martin Vanquish. Dana and I wanted to sit..."

Before Betsy could finish her words, Spencer turned toward Aurora and said,

"Let’s go."

It was as if Betsy didn’t even exist for him.

In reality, if it wasn’t for Aurora, he wouldn’t be interested in talking with Betsy in the first place.

Dana felt embarrassed and tugged on her sleeves,

"Betsy, I think you should...stop now."

Betsy rolled her eyes.

She mistook Dana’s warning as a sign that she was jealous. Jealous that she could talk with Spencer while Dana was ignored all along.

If Dana could hear Betsy’s thoughts, she would slap her.

It was clear that Spencer held disdain for Betsy, nothing less, maybe even more.

However, Betsy blindly and shamelessly continued to talk with Spencer...which was too embarrassing to look.

With a smug smile, Betsy dragged Dana to the parking lot. She wanted to seize the chance and use the first-come, first-served concept to occupy the seat.
