Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 76: I Will Tell Grandpa About Us
Chapter 76: I Will Tell Grandpa About Us
"Sawyer, your grandpa is in the hospital; shouldn’t we hurry back to the city?"
Abigail looked him in the eyes, but when she felt the warmth of his hand, she blushed. She quickly tried to pull her hand away, but his grip was too firm for her to escape.
Sawyer didn’t rush to respond; instead, he gazed at her soft, delicate hand in his palm. He squeezed it gently enough to make his blood boil.
After sensing that she no longer resisted his grip, he turned to meet her shy gaze.
"There’s no need to worry about that cunning old man. I know he is healthy enough to run 10K in an hour. He just wanted to lure me back home. That’s why he had someone publish those ridiculous articles online."
Sawyer smiled as he noticed her beautiful eyes widen in shock.
"My grandpa might be at home right now. Usually, he played chess with his butler at this hour and couldn’t care less about anything else."
Abigail was speechless, unsure whether to laugh or feel sorry in response to his amusing words.
"Please sit down again, Abby..." Sawyer finally released her hand, but his eyes remained fixed on her.
"How do you know the article was fake right away!? Have you checked?" Abigail asked. She remembers his grandma calling him.
It was hard for Abigail to believe because the news online seemed so convincing. If it was just fake news, why let it circulate? Why wasn’t his family worried about the company’s stock dropping because of the negative news?
Sawyer chuckled, seeing the trace of worry in Abigail’s eyes. Somehow, seeing her concern about his family warmed his heart. This girl cared about him and his family.
However, he wouldn’t return home. He was well aware of what was happening in the capital.
Earlier, after receiving a call from his grandmother, he immediately contacted Ethan to conduct a quick investigation.
Ethan quickly discovered this through his secret informant in the media. And she informed him that a particular person had leaked the news to her newspaper: his Grandfather.
This wasn’t the first time such a situation had occurred; it often happened when a family member had a birthday.
When Ethan informed him that today was his father’s birthday, he understood why everyone had been calling him since morning, urging him to come home.
He would never return today because he wanted to avoid his family’s gathering, which would only make him the target of their criticism.
"Abby, this isn’t the first time my grandpa has done this. I know he just wants me to visit him," Sawyer explained, a warm smile spreading across his lips to comfort Abigail, who still looked uneasy.
"I believe you. But don’t you feel sorry for your grandfather, who is willing to trick you about his health just to see you?" Abigail asked, feeling guilty for bringing it up.
She worried Sawyer might think she was overstepping, but her concerns faded when she saw his reassuring smile.
"If you’re worried about that, I’ll visit him tomorrow after I drop you back home. How does that sound?" he asked.
"Ugh, Sawyer, you misunderstood. Please don’t do that just because of me; do it only if you genuinely want to," she corrected him.
Abigail shook her head helplessly, frustrated by his tendency to twist her words. Why did he seem more shameless than ever? Gosh!
Sawyer didn’t tease her again; he could see her face growing red.
"Alright, Abby. I will listen to you. I’ll meet him tomorrow because I miss him. And I’ll also tell him about us..."
Abigail snapped at his words.
"What do you want to tell him? About us? Which one...?" She worried he might say something he shouldn’t, like declaring they were dating and planning to marry within the year.
"Sawyer Jones, you..." She wanted to scold him but worried he would twist her words again, and she might admit what she now thought.
Sawyer chuckled as he stood up from his seat.
"Shall we go inside? It’s getting colder out here, and you look cold now, Abby." He tried to distract her and steer the conversation away from what he wanted to tell his grandpa.
Abigail agreed with him. She did feel cold now, as the sun was setting on the horizon, and the sky was slowly darkening.

On the second night spent with Sawyer, Abigail began to feel relaxed. The nervousness and awkwardness that had initially overwhelmed her were fading.
After dinner, they took turns cleaning up.
However, when Abigail decided to sleep, she suddenly felt thirsty and realized she had forgotten to bring drinking water upstairs.
She slowly descended to the first floor, noticing the light was already off. The only light was illuminated from the dim glow of the wood stove.
Not wanting to disturb Sawyer, she crept quietly toward the kitchen. However, her steps halted when she spotted Sawyer asleep in a chair near the wood stove, his feet resting on the coffee table.
A thick blanket covered half his body, his arms crossed over his chest, and his head hung low.
The sight worried her; she feared he might hurt his neck.
For a moment, she stood still, looking at him with mixed emotions.
’Why didn’t he sleep on his foldable bed like last night?’
Her brow furrowed slightly as she realized something. She hadn’t gone downstairs to check on him the previous night, and she hadn’t seen the folded bed in the morning either.
’Could he have used that as an excuse to accompany her in the cabin so she wouldn’t be afraid? So he doesn’t have a foldable bed and has been sleeping like this!’
Instantly, Abigail felt even worse, picturing Sawyer sleeping in that position all night.
Abigail approached him and gently touched his shoulder, trying to wake him up. "Sawyer..." she called softly, not wanting to startle him.
However, her gentle voice caused Sawyer to panic when he saw her.
"Abby? What happened?" his deep, hoarse voice echoed as he stood up and gripped her shoulders.
"Did something happen? Why aren’t you asleep yet?" he added, glancing at his watch. "It’s almost midnight, Abby," his voice filled with worry.
