Yang Chunhua simply glanced at him before turning around and heading inside the apartment. She had nothing to say to Dacheng, and even if she did, she knew there was no point in speaking to this man anymore.

When Dacheng saw her turn around and walk inside the apartment, he pursed his lips. However, he didn't make an effort to apologise to Yang Chunhua; instead, he turned to look at Bai Meiyue, who raised a brow and smiled at the man with a calm look on her face.

"It seemed like you two turned lucky after leaving?" Bai Meiyue questioned as she took in their appearance. She had indeed expected this to happen, but she never thought that she would be this accurate.

"Indeed." Lu Yin raised her head and looked at Bai Meiyue with a smug look on her face. There was no sign of humility in her eyes as she strengthened her back in front of Bai Meiyue. She then turned to look at Wan Guofu and Mo He, who were standing right behind Bai Meiyue, and questioned, "Where is Brother Qian?"

"Shouldn't you be asking for your brother first?" Bai Meiyue questioned with a tilt of her head, raising her brow and smirking. "Or did you forget that you left your brother as well?"

Lu Yin blushed upon hearing her remark, but then she raised her head and glared at Bai Meiyue. The day Bai Meiyue joined the army, she was going to make this woman suffer. Unlike her, who had an official position, Bai Meiyue would have nothing. She was just a stepping stone used by the base to collect more supplies and live a good life.

"Haha, that's not what she meant," remarked Dacheng as he tried to save Lu Yin's face. He looked at Bai Meiyue and then gazed at her belly, only to see that he couldn't see anything with Bai Meiyue wearing a rather loose shirt. However, he still hitched his smile back when he thought that even if Bai Meiyue was trying her best to hide the truth, sooner or later, the truth would prevail.

He turned to look around the apartment and questioned, "We just meant, where are Brother Qian and Brother Yu?"

"Out on a task." Bai Meiyue crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame before saying to Dacheng, "Anything else?"

There was no need for her to be polite with the two of them, as Bai Meiyue knew that these two wouldn't get along with her, and she, too, had no intention of getting along with them.

She also guessed the reason why Dacheng came here with Lu Yin. Sure enough, she watched him take out a document from his bag and place it in front of her. Bai Meiyue looked down at the official document that he was holding and curled her lips.

She then heard Dacheng say, "I was thinking about talking about this good thing with everyone present but since that cannot be done, then I will start with you."

Dacheng wanted to show off in front of Lei Qian in hopes that the man would be able to see that he was not some useless man and he could join hands with him rather than a woman who was pregnant. No matter how powerful Bai Meiyue was, once she became pregnant, she would be of no use to this team.

He smiled at Wan Guofu and handed another set of documents to him.

Seeing Dacheng and Lu Yin act like a proud peacock, Bai Meiyue didn't mind. She took over the document and read through it carefully. It was a simple statement where the person in charge asked them to join the base and in return, she would give them all kinds of benefits and protection. It also had the stamp of the military to prove that the document was the real deal.

Bai Meiyue took a look at it and burst out laughing. She handed the document back to Dacheng, who was staring at her with confusion in his eyes.

"What's the meaning of this?" he asked, bewildered.

"I don't see any reason to join the team." Bai Meiyue tilted her head as she lifted her shoulder. "Protection? Ration? Supplies? Do you think that I am lacking in any of that?"

Even Wan Guofu and the rest stepped back as they refused to take the documents. They were not foolish. The more tempting an offer looked, the more dangerous and risky it was. They knew that there was trouble waiting for them if they signed this document.

This kind of reaction surprised Dacheng and Lu Yin. Dacheng especially thought that they would be eager to jump to sign the document. After all, this was an order from the military. They should be glad that the military was willing to let them work for them, right?

Lu Yin was just as surprised. She couldn't understand what was going on. She thought that Lei Qian would be the one who would refuse, as he was in love with Bai Meiyue but she never thought that Wan Guofu would do the same thing as Bai Meiyue. Why would these people refuse to join the military? This was the perfect time for them to start a new life.

"What's going on?" Dacheng asked as his eyes flickered to Bai Meiyue who shrugged at him. Bai Meiyue was worried that Wan Guofu and the rest would be fooled by the document and the benefits written on it. Though the entire deal looked really good, the truth was that the leader of the bases would make them work until not even bones were left.

This was what happened in her past life. She was not even lying, as the leader never took the ability users as human beings.

Fortunately, Wan Guofu and the others were not foolish enough to believe the lies that were written on the paper. Though they were not exactly lies, Bai Meiyue knew that they were not the truth either.
