Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train-Chapter 229 - 220 Dragon Transport Ship_2
Chapter 229: Chapter 220 Dragon Transport Ship_2
"It seems that indeed quite a few survivors come here often."
Shu Qin said.
Lin Xian gazed intently at the nearby town. Before entering, the silhouette of a huge Sky Ship extended across the deep streets of the town, appearing rather majestic. The massive transport ship, weighing tens of thousands of tons, was tilted amidst a few collapsed skyscrapers, with many places on the ship’s top showing burn marks. The main structure at the ship’s bow was fractured, and many birds were flying above the Yunshu Ship. From a distance, the gigantic artificial ship seemed extremely out of place and sci-fi amidst the town’s buildings.
"For such a large transport ship to crash here suddenly is truly strange. Did it encounter some large Abnormal Body?"
Lin Xian observed the town with binoculars and saw many zombies wandering the streets, but he did not see any hints of other survivor groups.
"It’s possible." Shu Qin looked toward the distant Shijiu Lake: "Perhaps there’s something in the lake."
After hearing this, Lin Xian’s brows furrowed, instinctively repulsed by the now blackened water surface of the lake, which was 1900 meters deep, a sunless abyss where who knows what lurks.
He recalled the subterranean creatures from that number 9 Underground City, feeling a chill down his spine.
"Let’s head into the town for a look, be careful."
The southern rail is not far from here. If the Infinity were to switch tracks south, it would pass by, though there’s no station stop.
Shu Qin looked over: "Captain Lin, are we going directly to the transport ship for a look?"
"Yes."
"Let’s check it out first." Lin Xian took a deep breath, started his motorcycle, and drove into the town, with Shu Qin drawing her gun and following closely behind.
Buildings near the road grew denser, and as they approached the town’s district, the two motorcycles began to slow down, both alertly scanning their surroundings.
In front of them appeared a desolate, bleak tourist town, with all kinds of shops like "Shijiu Lake Seafood" and "Boat Rental" lining the streets. The streets were filthy, with discarded clothing and rotting corpses mixed with the fishy wind rising from the lake.
Due to the lake possibly rising, some streets were even submerged in lake water, appearing dark green and at least half a person’s depth.
Lin Xian bypassed these flooded streets, heading toward the center of the town where the transport ship had crashed.
Swish, swish, swish!
A few shots from the Wind Gun and several zombies fell, as the two navigated past streets, collapsing buildings began to block the way, with the massive Flying Device lying tilted atop a few structures. Hundreds of meters of roadway were entirely collapsed, creating a massive crash rift from west to east, almost dividing the whole town.
The Dragon Transport Ship’s bow was twisted and deformed, revealing multiple internal deck floors under the sun. Lin Xian glanced at it, noting climbing up the slope from the side of the ship would be at least as high as ten floors.
"Captain Lin, there are more zombies now."
Shu Qin’s voice reminded from beside him.
As both ventured deeper into the quiet town, more zombies were drawn to them. Lin Xian glanced around, then conjured several steel panels, driving through a ruptured reinforced concrete zone, scaling up an inclined staircase outside a collapsed building, and stopping at a concealed rubble height.
"Hold here!"
Lin Xian stopped the bike, activated the Power Armor’s action unit, and leaped down to the lower level, quickly creating a tilted steel wall that blocked the climbing zombies, causing many to fall from the building’s side.
Though the zombies posed little threat now, Lin Xian needed to clear space for parking before he and Shu Qin could enter the crashed Dragon Spaceship for exploration, opting for a vantage point to block the zombies along the way.
Bang, bang!
Shu Qin, with seasoned experience, drew a pistol from her side holster, aimed at a precarious advertisement on the opposite street, and fired. The bullet struck the metal frame, sparks flew, and the large restaurant sign collapsed, scattering pieces of iron and billboard fragments, crushing a batch of zombies and blocking part of their climbing route.
"Alright, done."
Lin Xian secured the wall, turned to ascend further, and snapped two steel covers onto the motorcycle to prevent damage. He then called Shu Qin, and they darted through the wreckage of debris, until the massive Dragon Transport Ship loomed ahead.
The side wing was deeply buried underground, uncovering even the street’s sewers. The two climbed the transport ship from this side wing, finding muddy footprints, bloodstains, and the remains of deceased survivors—some already decaying and some seemingly dying within the last week, whether from zombies or conflicts over supplies unknown.
Yet, at this moment, the transport ship was eerily silent. Lin Xian didn’t know if anyone was inside, nor if other survivors were lurking within the town, and halfway there, he pointed at a fractured high-rise, now several stories above.
"Shu Qin, that position, keep an eye on it."
"Okay!"
Shu Qin immediately understood Lin Xian’s intention, switching directions, jumping to a balcony on the high-rise from the transport ship’s side wing, and climbed from the collapsed deck to an obscured vantage point for surveillance.
Meanwhile, Lin Xian advanced along the ship’s top, reaching the bow’s fracture, peering momentarily, then jumped inside.
Thud!
Upon landing, the cabin deck produced a deep hum. Lin Xian waved his right hand near his ear, generating a headset light to illuminate the cabin interior.
"Captain Lin."
"No one." Lin Xian responded. These transport ship upper levels served as rest compartments for officials and personnel, but all cabin doors were open. Standing in the slightly slanted hallway, he surveyed the empty ship interior, expression stern.
"You watch outside, I’ll take a round inside."
"Alright."
Lin Xian didn’t expect much in terms of supplies, evident the location has been visited by countless survivor groups. If, according to Liao Ming, Hu Lushou’s group were first to target it, it must have been thoroughly looted; even subsequent searchers would find little of use.
But Lin Xian was here searching for blueprints and a Swallow engine, prizes survivors unlikely took apart, and treasures for Lin Xian.
"It’s pitch dark inside here, better not have some Abnormal Body emerge..."
Lin Xian’s expression darkened, pondering while swiftly traversing the upper deck, heading towards the rear engine engineering room amidst darkness, fraught with the stench of decay. He saw many Federation Garrison Army uniformed corpses scattered messily along his way.
They appeared to have been dead since the crash judging by the decay.
Yet upon jumping in from the bow’s fracture, a peculiarity struck him. What puzzled Lin Xian was an upward collision area at the bow, seemingly colliding from above while landing, suggesting oddity.
Simply put, the transport ship seemed to bear collision marks both on its "forehead" and "chin," with the forehead impact harder than the chin, akin to collision mid-air followed by a stressed rupture upon landing, splitting upper deck structures.
Given the town’s tallest building barely reaching a dozen floors without collision marks near the bow area, Lin Xian couldn’t help but consider an aerial collision.
"Did this unfortunate transport ship collide with Atmospheric Mica in air?"
Lin Xian wondered quietly.
"Yet such a massive object, the radar surely should’ve detected it..."
