"Then why did you write that?"

Lucian asked with a ridiculous look on his face.

"Because that is the story the world will believe."

"Huh...?"

Lucian blinked, unable to understand what the woman had just said. Claire looked at him and sighed, then, as if she had made up her mind, she started explaining.

"The Police cannot write ’demon’ in their reports, doctors cannot diagnose ’drank supernatural blood.’ Insurance companies will not pay if the only survivor keeps talking about monsters.

Because to those people, such things do not exist."

"But they do!"

Lucian raised his voice as he punched the metal railing in anger, bending it in half without even realizing it.

"They do!"

He repeated.

"And people need to realize that! Demons exist! And we need to find a way to find them and tear them apart!

We need to tell everyone!"

He spoke, his eyes burning strongly. Claire however, did not react to his intense emotions, she remained calm.

"It won’t change anything, no matter what you do."

"What do you mean?"

Lucian asked with a frown. Claire looked at him for a moment, then said something important—

"There is a reason people do not, Lucian."

"And what is that reason?"

"I have no obligation to tell you that."

The woman shrugged.

From the look on her face, she didn’t particularly care about Lucian’s situation or what he had gone through.

To her, he was just someone she needed to deal with.

Lucian looked at her, his anger was rising, he was having a difficult time holding back, but then he thought about another thing—

"If you do not do anything,

I will."

He decided.

"I will tell everyone.

I will reveal the truth!"

"Do that."

Once again, the woman shrugged as if she didn’t care. That surprised Lucian, from how she was talking, he imagined she was someone sent to keep his mouth shut but...

He said he was going to reveal the truth and she was just... agreeing? 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Something didn’t make sense.

The woman then closed her file and stood up, ready to leave, before she did, she looked at Lucian one last time and—

"The Police will be here in a few minutes."

She began.

"You can tell them the truth, you can tell them about the demon that attacked you, about the blood and everything you just told me.

Or you can tell them that an unknown intruder broke in, killed your parents, knocked you unconscious, and fled.

One answer locks you away in a psychiatric ward, takes your freedom, turns you into a madman who doesn’t know what he is saying and takes away the chance to say goodbye to your parents one last time.

The other ends the nightmare right here, you will be treated as a brave young man who tried to protect his parents, receive insurance money, allow you to bury your parents, giving them a proper, clean resting place.

The choice is yours."

Claire explained before she turned around and started walking towards the door.

"How do you know it ends here?"

Suddenly, Lucian asked in a comparatively calmer voice, Claire paused midway and turned to Lucian.

"Even if I say what you told me to say, would they even believe me? I was covered in blood, that makes me a prime suspect."

"You leave that to me.

If you are willing to say what I suggest, you won’t even need to talk to the police, I will do everything myself.

It is my work to make sure this incident doesn’t see the light of the day."

Claire answered directly.

"Your... work?"

Lucian raised his head and looked at her.

"Yes."

Claire nodded, from the look on her face, Lucian could tell she wouldn’t say anything else about it.

He looked at her for a good while, then, he asked another question.

"What happens to him?"

Lucian’s body trembled as he remembered his father’s head falling on the ground, his mother’s body falling down with that thud and it all made him sick.

"The intruder?"

Claire tilted her head.

"The demon."

Lucian corrected, Claire paused for a moment, then—

"Officially? Nothing. He walks free."

She answered honestly.

Lucian clenched his fists, an unbearable rage boiling inside him, but then, he noticed something.

"Officially...?"

And for the first time since she came here, Claire smiled.

"This World is far more complicated than you realize and I do not have the time, nor the desire to explain it to you.

But if there is one thing I can tell you—

It is that in this world, if there is anything you desire, you don’t wait for it to be given to you.

You take it yourself."

The woman looked at him with a meaningful look on her face and—

"Whether that’s power, money, or...

Revenge."

Lucian’s expression changed, his heart raced at those words. He understood what the woman was trying to tell him but—

How was he supposed to deal with a literal demon with magic powers?

He saw what he did, his father was standing with a literal shotgun aimed right at his head and before he could even pull the trigger, he lost his head. His mother rose in the air out of sheer magic and her body was bent in unnatural angles.

Guns didn’t work on him, overpowering him was clearly impossible, what could someone like him do!?

That question was written all over his face.

And Claire could read it.

"You aren’t foolish enough to think you are the same man you once were, are you?"

She asked a simple question and Lucian paused.

He looked at her, then he looked at the bent railings around him, then he looked at his own body, he was different, very different than before.

And it wasn’t just his strength, he felt more energetic, his senses were multiple times stronger than before, and while his new body was a mess, it was... powerful.

"There are things in this world the police cannot arrest, monsters no court can judge. But you..."

Claire glanced at Lucian.

"You are no longer what you were yesterday."

"What... am I now...?"

He asked after a little pause.

"You are alive."

Claire, who was preparing to have him sign the papers, answered.

"That is already unusual."

"That doesn’t answer my question."

"I do not have the answer to your question.

You are a human who consumed Demon Blood, a human shouldn’t even survive that, yet...

Here you are."

Claire answered honestly, Lucian looked down at the official statement she had already prepared placed in front of him.

"Now sign this."

Claire ordered.

"I can only bear that depraved, deviant gaze of yours for so long, it disgusts me."

"I am not—"

Lucian tried to explain but—

"Sign."

Claire didn’t care, she just wanted this to be over with.

Lucian looked at her, then at the papers and with a heavy heart, he made a decision.

He signed the papers.

The instant he did, Claire took the file back, already leaving as if she no longer wanted to be in his presence.

"What if I tell everyone the truth later?"

Lucian asked, wanting to have something over her but—

"That does not come under my jurisdiction."

The woman shrugged.

But she didn’t walk away, she looked at Lucian with a somewhat sympathetic look on her face and—

"But if you do plan to do that, make sure you understand the world and the possible consequences of your actions.

I would suggest you drop the matter entirely, forget about everything that happened and live a normal, peaceful life.

That is the most... painless path you would walk on."

She answered, for the first time, her eyes showed genuine concern.

"Go and attend your University classes tomorrow.

Leave this world behind while you still can."
