Chapter 67: 143

As we followed Incus, there wasn’t any demon’s in the way which was surprising.

The demons did call themselves the legion, which must mean that there isn’t that much of them.

Their compilation likely only inhabits the strong, prioritizing quality over quantity... even the demons that Incus has slain with a single sword stroke were strong, just not a threat big enough for Incus.

Walking through the base camp, everything still looked dreadful.

For some reason, something was off.

"What is it partner? You have a weird expression on your face." Alleus asked.

"It’s just that... the dragon scales armor hasn’t returned to me." I then paled as I clenched my fist, "Tell me Alleus, was she really evacuated by knights!"

Please don’t tell me she’s been killed.

"No! She’s alive, she definetly is! We watched the knights arrived, she must have gone to another base camp because the knights had arrived from a different direction than the ones from this base camp." Small tears formed on Alleus’ eyes.

"Oh I see, that’s good to know." I relaxed my fist.

Walking deeper in the camp, I plugged my nose.

"So the author caused all of this anguish... how despicable." Ulna tightened a fist, "Remind me again, there is a way out of this novel correct?"

"Yes, there is." I nodded, "But we’ll have to reach the conclusion of the story, I’m sure that the current arc is just a demonstration of Incus strength, an intermission."

Entering the camp where the commander was located, Incus was asking for a healer.

"For now, we should take this time to recoup. Don’t take food being handed out, that’s for the survivors. It might also be dangerous to eat because of the area it’s being cooked." I commanded, "Oh right that reminds me."

I then opened my pouch, pulling out something wrapped in leaves.

"You’re a savior captain, I can’t believe you still have that!" Lieur chuckled.

I unraveled the packaged food, revealing a delicious meal of chicken and rice.

Using the leaves, I used it as a glove to eat.

If I used my bare hands, I would get food poisoning.

Handing the chicken and rice to Alleus, she did the same before handing the rest to Lieur.

This continued on until it went full circle and everything was finished.

"Man, that was tasty. I wish we had more, I hope that there’s going to be another banquet of some kind in the future." Alleus wiped her mouth.

"Pardon my intrusion, but I’ve been called for?" Said a youthful voice.

Suddenly, a timid looking boy entered the tent.

"Great timing, you’ll be healing the hero Incus." Commander Cage pointed at Incus with an open hand.

Tilting his head, the healer jolted back.

"W-What!" The healer grew shaky, "Such a task shouldn’t be bestowed on someone like me—!"

"Silence!" Commander Cage shouted, "Enough with pointless words and just quickly the Hero Incus!"

"Yes sir!" The healer then ran towards Incus, pointing his wooden staff.

"Healing light." A dome then shrouded over Incus.

Turning towards my parted and asked:

"How many potions do you guys have distributed amongst yourself."

Rummaging through their pouches they pointed up their fingers, indicating how many they have.

"I have one big recovery potion and three small mana vials." Alleus pointed up four fingers.

"One recovery and mana vial, captain." Lieur held up two fingers.

"As for me, I have two big mana potions and no vials." Ulna raised two fingers.

"Five vials. One recovery and four mana." Vertere raised all five of his fingers.

Touching the vial holders, I then opened my pouch.

"Two recovery vials and two mana vials... and one big mana potion." I held up four of my fingers, "In any case, hand over the big mana potions to our mages and recovery to me and Alleus, Lieur will hold on to less vials than us."

Amongst ourselves, we have three big mana potions and seven vials. Zero big recovery potions and four vials

Redistributing our mana potions amongst ourselves, I nodded.

"Uhm, slight issue... I don’t have a pouch." Ulna scratched her cheek.

"Don’t you have any pockets?" I sighed.

"Oh never mind, issue solved." Ulna slightly chuckled before putting the mana potions in her pockets.

"I’m finished healing." The healer huffed as he wiped the sweat off his face, "If I may, can I take my leave now?"

"You did well boy, what’s your name?" Incus patted the shoulder on the back, but the healer had already left before getting to answer Incus’ question, "How rude."

"If it is your will, we will punish him—" Commander cage said bluntly, but was interupted by Incus.

"No, there is no need." Incus sat up. "I will be going back in battle instead, make sure to prepare all of your mages and strongest knights... because I will now be entering the inner sanctum of the kingdom."

Commander Cage bowed, "Your wish is my command."

Cage then left the tent.

Incus soon followed after but instead towards the Kingdom.

"Cloaked wind!" Conjured Ulna, "Vertere, make that road of ice again, it will help us move along faster."

Vertere nodded, "Road of Ice."

As we followed Incus through the Kingdom, survivors were being evacuated out.

Some of the faces were familiar, but some were not.

But at least there were still survivors, the only issue is that there isn’t enough food to go around.

Unless this ends by today, more deaths will be caused due to famine, instead of demons.

Glancing up in the sky, we had reached the inner sanctum.

The was another moat but there were statues erected and a serpent swimming in it, but it’s movements were weak.

In the middle of the moat was a large palace with a garden surrounding it.

"Vertere, freeze the water." I said, "make sure that the ice is thick enough for us to walk on it."

"Alright." Vertere knelt down and sunk his wand into the water, "Freeze."

The moat slowly began freezing, and soon it was completely turned into a thick sheet of ice.
